Abstract: A multi-channel Media Access Control (MAC) method and apparatus for a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) device with a single radio interface are provided. The multi-channel MAC method includes sensing a common channel when a channel coordination window starts from a start point of a window repeating at regular periods, allocating at least two devices to a destination channel for the started channel coordination window using a channel utilization vector indicating use/nonuse for each of multiple channels, and transceiving a frame over the allocated destination channel.
Abstract: A method for content delivery is disclosed. The method provides a digital engine accessible by a wireless communication device via an information network, maintains selectable content digitally formatted, receives a user selection of a content file, initiates transmission of the content file to the wireless communication device for storage and processing, and initiates transmission of additional information associated with the content file to the wireless communication device.
Abstract: A method and system for determining a location of mobile and non-mobile devices in emergency situations. The method and system provide a current physical geographic location for a mobile or non-mobile device (e.g., building address, a building floor, a room on a building floor, campus, enterprise, city, state, region, country, continent, etc.) in an emergency situation. The method and system can also be used to provide a physical geographic location for a device for non-emergency situations.
Abstract: A wireless speakerphone with a pivoting microphone boom is provided. The speakerphone communicates via a wireless network to a cellular telephone, cellular telephone adaptor, land-line telephone, land-line telephone adaptor, computer, personal digital assistant, or other device capable of communicating via the wireless network. The microphone contained in the pivoting boom is a directional microphone, the design of the boom being such that the location of minimal microphone sensitivity is always directed towards the speakerphone's speaker. The wireless speakerphone may also include an integral display, thereby allowing various types of system information to be displayed, aid speakerphone/system configuration and provide expanded speakerphone functionality.
Abstract: A method of registering a network is applied to a mobile station. The mobile station has a first network module and a second network module. The first network module is for accessing a first network having a third network module. The second and third network modules are for accessing a wideband network. The method of registering the network includes the following steps. First, the second network module transmits an identification code to the third network module via the wideband network. Next, the first network stores the identification code. Finally, the first network notifies, via the first network module, the mobile station that registering succeeds.
Abstract: Cellular signals or other wireless signals/messages are introduced into a building or to an outside location by transmitting packets corresponding to those signals over a data network and low cost cables to designated locations within the data network. Once the designated packets containing the signals reach the destination, they are then broadcast over the air to a terminal capable of receiving the wireless message. In a first embodiment, an in-building gigabit Ethernet network, such as that currently existing presently in many buildings, is used to distribute radio signals indoors. Instead of transmitting the radio signals over the air from a repeater connected to a base station, coded baseband signals generated by the coding processor (e.g., a CDMA Modem Unit) in the base station are packetized and sent over the Ethernet network to radio processing equipment and antennas distributed throughout the building.

Abstract: In a method for power reduction at a receiver, a first radio frame is processed to recover transmitted data based on transport format information. The transport format information is determined based on a combination of transport format information associated with a plurality of received radio frames rather than a single frame. In another method for power reduction at a receiver, whether transport format information associated with a first radio frame is different from transport format information associated with a second radio frame is determined. The transport channel data is then processed based on the determination. The first radio frame is received prior to the second radio frame, and the transport format information indicates a transport format for transport channel data received in the first and second radio frames.

Abstract: A relaying node is in bidirectional communication with at least a first and a second sending/receiving radio node, and the relaying radio node receives at least a first signal carrying at least first data and a second signal carrying at least second data. The relaying node generates a reduced representation of at least the first and second signal, with a reduced information content as compared to the first and second data, by a joint non-linearly encoding operation, and transmits the reduced representation to at least the first and the second communication node. The first and second sending/receiving node can extract data from the reduced representation by a non-linear decoding operation using stored a priori information.

Abstract: A mobile communication device includes a side key having at least three buttons disposed on the side of a device body. Each button of the side key has at least two functions assigned differently and independently according to operation mode and key press time. In a method for controlling the side key, at least two functions are assigned to the side key. Receiving a press input from the side key, a control unit determines a key setting type corresponding to the received press input. Then the control unit retrieves a function corresponding to the determined key setting type from the assigned functions, and then performs the retrieved function of the side key.

Abstract: A messaging method in a system including a wireless network, a routing server, and a plurality of mobile stations. A first mobile station has first communications applications and a first PIN and a second mobile station has second communications applications and a second PIN. Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for reducing truncation of time sensitive information such as audio in a trunked radio system having a plurality of zone controllers. The method includes the steps of receiving a call request from a calling radio or wireline console by a controlling zone controller of the plurality of zone controllers and measuring a time necessary to set up a call connection between the controlling zone controller and a plurality of called radios or wireline consoles where the call connections of the plurality of called radios or wireline consoles are each set up through a different participating zone controller of the plurality of zone controllers. The method also includes the steps of determining a largest relative measured time among the measured times and buffering audio information from the calling radio for a time period proportional to the determined largest relative time.

Abstract: A method for addressing groups of stations in a wireless communication system begins by assigning the stations in the system into a number of groups. A group identifier is signaled to each station and the group identifier is indicated in a frame for each group that has data in the frame. The addressing method can be applied to power savings for the station, wherein the station enters a power saving mode if the group identifier for the station is not present in the frame.
