  • Patent number: 9112554
Abstract: A method includes, in a receiver, receiving a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) signal over a first plurality of partially-dependent communication channels that have a finite mutual dependence. Second channel responses are estimated in the receiver, for a second plurality of independent communication channels, which are derived from the partially-dependent communication channels and which have no mutual dependence. First channel responses are calculated for the first plurality of the partially-dependent communication channels, based on the second channel responses of the independent communication channels.

  • Patent number: 9112740
Abstract: A decision feedback equalizer that can operate at higher speed is provided. The decision feedback equalizer includes a weighting addition circuit (adder 21, coefficient units Tap1a, Tap2 to Tapn) that sums an input signal to weighted versions of feedback signals FB1 to FBn, n being an integer not less than 2. The decision feedback equalizer also includes a decision circuit 11 that decides whether or not the result of addition by the weighting addition circuit is not less than a defined threshold value and that outputs the result of the decision to outside and to a shift register (latch circuits L2 to Ln). The decision circuit operates in synchronism with a clock signal. The shift register sequentially holds the result of decision of the decision circuit 11 in synchronism with the clock signal, and outputs the contents held by its component registers as feedback signals FB2 to FBn.

  • Patent number: 9112563
Abstract: A method for per-tone transmit (TX) antenna selection beamforming includes obtaining an estimate of a per-tone channel amplitude information corresponding to each antenna of multiple antennas of a transmitter. A spatial mapping matrix of the transmitter is determined using the obtained estimate of the per-tone channel amplitude information corresponding to the antennas. Each tone includes an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) sub-carrier, and the per-tone channel amplitude information corresponding to each antenna is associated with a propagation channel between that antenna and a receive (RX) antenna of a receiver. The spatial mapping matrix is determined to allow transmission of data corresponding to each tone through one of the antennas, and to allow each of the antennas to be active during a transmission time of the transmitter.

  • Patent number: 9106488
Abstract: A method and a highway addressable remote transducer (HART) soft modem device for modulating and demodulating analog signals with HART messages are provided. A phase coherent frequency shift keying (FSK) modulator modulates and transmits analog signals with HART messages, and a phase coherent FSK demodulator receives and demodulates the analog signals with the HART messages. The FSK modulator is a digital modulator that outputs 1 or 0 for transmission. With oversampling and low pass filtering, the digital modulation results in low jitter and good signal to noise ratio. The FSK demodulator applies a fast energy detect algorithm and dynamically reduces or increases a clock speed of a central processing unit (CPU) of the HART soft modem device for reducing power consumption of the CPU. Furthermore, the HART soft modem device uses direct memory access (DMA) to further reduce the power consumption, thereby reducing the overall power consumption by around 50%.

  • Patent number: 9106505
Abstract: A digital filter for removing a PWM noise from a sampling data includes: an averaging filter. The sampling data is obtained by sampling a control amount of a control object, which is driven at a driving frequency in a PWM control manner, at a sampling frequency. The PWM noise includes fundamental and harmonic wave components. The averaging filter calculates an average of the sampling data, which is sampled most recent predetermined sampling times providing an averaging number. The sampling frequency and the averaging number are determined to satisfy a relationship that an absolute value of a difference between the sampling frequency multiplied by a predetermined first integer and the harmonic wave frequency is equal to the sampling frequency divided by the averaging number and multiplied by a predetermined second integer in a frequency range between zero and a Nyquist frequency when the fundamental and harmonic wave components are removed.

  • Patent number: 9094273
Abstract: To improve a quality of a combined signal obtained by maximum ratio combining performed when a transmission signal of OFDM system is diversity-received with a small computation amount or a small circuit size. In a receiving apparatus, a combining unit corrects, when combining a sub-carrier signal of each branch obtained by performing Fourier transform on a reception signal of each branch at a maximum ratio for each sub-carrier, a weighting coefficient of each branch according to a magnitude relation of an intensity of the reception signal of each branch before Fourier transform. Specifically, the combining unit corrects the weighting coefficient of each branch so as to weaken an influence of a transmission path response estimated for a sub-carrier signal of the branch in branches with smaller reception signal intensities.

  • Patent number: 9094241
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved channel estimation by post-processing of the channel response that is generated by a Golay correlator The processing is done using time-domain operations such as gating and filtering. Gating is performed on the estimated channel response taps in order to reduce the noise level. Pre-filtering the channel response through a filter matched to the transmitted pulse-shape improves the probability of detecting the channel peaks. Post-filtering the processed channel impulse response to eliminate the high frequency effects that are added by the windowing and gating operations.

  • Patent number: 9088329
Abstract: Canceling narrowband interfering signals in a distributed antenna system is provided. In one aspect, a cancellation sub-system includes a decimator module, a filter, an interpolator module, and a combiner module coupled to the uplink path and a reference path in parallel with the uplink path. The reference path includes the decimator module, the filter, and the interpolator module. The decimator module decimates a reference signal sampled from an uplink signal traversing an uplink path of the remote antenna unit. Each of the uplink signal and the reference signal includes a narrowband interfering signal component. The filter generates a cancellation signal from the reference signal by attenuating the reference signal outside a frequency band that includes the interfering signal component. The interpolator module interpolates the cancellation signal to a sampling rate of the uplink signal. The combiner module can subtract the cancellation signal from the uplink signal.

  • Patent number: 9077572
Abstract: A receiver applies a calibration method to compensate for skew between input channels. The receiver skew is estimated by observing the coefficients of an adaptive equalizer which adjusts the coefficients based on time-varying properties of the multi-channel input signal. The receiver skew is compensated by programming the phase of the sampling clocks for the different channels. Furthermore, during real-time operation of the receiver, channel diagnostics is performed to automatically estimate differential group delay and/or other channel characteristics based on the equalizer coefficients using a frequency averaging or polarization averaging approach. Framer information can furthermore be utilized to estimate differential group delay that is an integer multiple of the symbol rate. Additionally, a DSP reset may be performed when substantial signal degradation is detected based on the channel diagnostics information.

  • Patent number: 9071472
Abstract: According to the teachings herein, one or more signal parameters for received data symbols are estimated by determining a statistical representation for the data symbols based on the magnitude distribution of initial symbol estimates. The statistical representation is compared to a number of reference representations that were formed in like manner from respective sets of data symbols parameterized according to the signal parameters to be estimated for the received data symbols, or according to signal parameters from which the parameters of interest can be derived. Basing the comparison on symbol magnitude distributions provides robust operation at low symbol qualities. Further, one or more embodiments disclosed herein increase the estimation robustness by using a pilot-assisted approach, whereby the reference representations used in the comparison are selected from a larger set in dependence on a quality range estimated from reference symbols received in conjunction with the data symbols of interest.
