  • Patent number: 9377522
Abstract: Example methods, apparatuses, or articles of manufacture are disclosed herein that may be utilized, in whole or in part, to facilitate or support one or more operations or techniques for utilizing a reference signal for indoor positioning, such as for use in or with a mobile communication device, for example. In an implementation, a reference signal may be focused into a directed beam, for example using a phased antenna array, and rotated electronically through a sequence of directional angles in a horizontal plane. A mobile device may determine a most probable directional angle from one or more transmitters transmitting a directional beam, measure one or more parameters for each directional angle and determine a location estimate using, for example triangulation.

  • Patent number: 9374254
Abstract: A tuner receives a received signal using one of a plurality of transmission formats that use at least one of either a first frequency or a second frequency band. A determination unit determines the transmission format being used in the received signal from among the plurality of transmission formats. In the determination unit, a pattern matching unit stores in advance a plurality of patterns respectively expressing a received waveform of a preamble in each of the plurality of transmission formats, conducts a pattern matching process between the received signal and the each of the plurality of patterns, and obtains a correlation value. A transmission mode determination unit determines the transmission format being used in the received signal on the basis of the correlation value.

  • Patent number: 9356653
Abstract: Method and arrangement in a Vectoring Control Entity, VCE, for handling disorderly events in a Digital Subscriber Line, DSL, system. The method involves a number of actions, to be performed when a disorderly event occurs on line m in a vectored group of DSL lines, and the transmission on line m is continued. The method comprises obtaining error samples from Customer Premises Equipments, CPEs, connected to other lines in the vectored group of DSL lines. The method further comprises—calculating an estimate of the channel coefficients changed due to the disorderly event, based on the error samples, thus providing a partial channel estimate. Further, the method comprises—modifying a downstream precoder, at least partly based on the partial channel estimate, such that retraining the other lines in the vectored group due to the disorderly event is avoided. The arrangement is adapted to enable the performance of the above described method.

  • Patent number: 9347798
Abstract: A hermetically sealed metal detector includes a plastic housing with an integrally formed diaphragm having a predetermined area and a thickness that enables vibration thereof by an internal acoustic transducer. An alert signal audibly drives the transducer in response to a metal detector circuit. The acoustic transducer is positioned to align the transducer output port adjacent to the interior surface of the diaphragm, which enables coupling of the acoustic signal through an air gap to vibrate the diaphragm. A cover is disposed about the diaphragm on the exterior of the housing. The cover has a vent formed therethrough for enabling passage of the acoustic energy to the exterior of the housing. Light and battery hermetic sealing are also presented.

  • Patent number: 9319963
Abstract: The application relates to managing interference at the user equipment caused by femtocell base stations, such as home base stations, home E-UTRAN Node B base stations, and the like, configured with closed subscriber groups by allowing the user equipment to access a femtocell base station which would normally not allow access to the user equipment because the user equipment is not a member of the CSG being served by the femtocell base station. When a user equipment is within range of HeNB serving a CSG cell to which the user equipment is allowed access, referred to as the “allowed HeNB”, the user equipment may encounter severe interference from another, adjacent HeNB serving another CSG cell, which the user equipment may not be allowed access to, referred to as the “not allowed HeNB”, and which may have a stronger signal in terms of power than the HeNB including the CSG to which access is allowed.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for transmitting data with conditional zero padding is provided. In accordance with an embodiment of the disclosure, a transmitter transmits data to a receiver by transmitting symbols such that each symbol is preceded by a cyclic prefix of a fixed length and the symbol conditionally includes enough zero padding to avoid ISI (Inter-Symbol Interference) between consecutive symbols. In some implementations, if the fixed length for cyclic prefixes is long enough to avoid ISI between consecutive symbols, then the symbols may omit zero padding. Otherwise, the symbols may include enough zero padding to avoid ISI between consecutive symbols. The zero padding may be zero tail or zero head.
