Abstract: Methods for controlling and regulating engulfment, uptake and/or transcellular transport at a stage following initial engagement of an agent to the endothelium are provided, based on the identification of CAM-mediated endocytosis and the sphingomyelin/ceramide pathway as active steps in transcellular TEM. Administration of regulators relating to the identified pathways, such as NHE1, sphingomyelinases, acid sphingomyelinase and ceramide, permit control and regulation of uptake and transcellular transport. Control and regulation of uptake and/or transcellular transport is applicable in strategies to modulate inflammation, provide controlled and/or targeted delivery of agents, control pathogenic invasion, recover action of an inhibited CAM-mediated uptake or transendothelial pathway, or provide uptake or transendothelial transport by targeting cell surface markers other than ICAM-1.

Abstract: A dry grind ethanol production process and system with front end milling method is provided for improving alcohol and/or by-product yields, such as oil and/or protein yields. In one example, the process includes grinding corn kernels into particles then mixing the corn particles with a liquid to produce a slurry including oil, protein, starch, fiber, germ, and grit. Thereafter, the slurry is subjected to a front end milling method, which includes separating the slurry into a solids portion, including fiber, grit, and germ, and a liquid portion, including oil, protein, and starch, then milling the separated solids portion to reduce the size of the germ and grit and release bound starch, oil, and protein from the solids portion. The starch is converted to sugar, and alcohol is produced therefrom then recovered. Also, the fiber can be separated and recovered. Oil and protein may be separated and recovered as well.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for measuring a component to be measured in a sample, comprising converting the component to be measured in the sample into hydrogen peroxide and measuring the formed hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an ?-keto acid using an oxidative-coloring chromogen. The present invention also provides a method for suppressing the influence of a peroxide on a method of converting a component to be measured in a sample into hydrogen peroxide and measuring the formed hydrogen peroxide using an oxidative-coloring chromogen, the suppression method comprising using an ?-keto acid. The measuring method and the suppression method of the present invention using an ?-keto acid suppress the influence of a peroxide to give an accurate measurement of the component to be measured in the sample.
