Patent number: 4208898Abstract: A process and device for carrying out the process allows for the extrustion of composite sections comprising a beam-like section made of a light metal and at least one insert made of another metal which provides a facing on at least one surface of the beam-like section. The beam-like section, which may be a conductor rail, is produced by extruding through a shape-giving die whereby at least two composite sections are produced simultaneously and the facing strips are positioned pairwise between opposite lying parts of the beam-like sections. The present invention allows the facing strips to be introduced into the extrusion device without the extreme bending previously experienced. Brittle materials which could not withstand the extreme bending experienced heretofore can now be used for facing material.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1979Date of Patent: June 24, 1980Assignee: Swiss Aluminium Ltd.Inventors: Adolf Ames, Alfred Wagner, Ulrich Zillmann

Patent number: 4208775Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for making threaded joints, such as pipe joints, within a range of predetermined applied torque and turns values. A pipe or a pipe and a coupling are threaded onto the end of a pipe string. The applied torque is monitored and, when a reference torque is exceeded, the number of turns made is counted. According to a representative aspect of the invention, when either the actual torque or the actual turns are within a predetermined percentage of a predetermined minimum value for that parameter and the other parameter has exceeded a predetermined minimum value, an indication is generated to the operator of the apparatus that he should be ready to stop the joint making operation.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1978Date of Patent: June 24, 1980Assignee: Baker International CorporationInventors: Russell L. Patent number: 4207668Abstract: A method of manufacturing a flexure suspension assembly which includes forming four quadrantally and radially disposed single axis flexure joints in a first cylindrical member and four quadrantally and radially disposed single axis flexure joints in a second cylindrical member. The longitudinal axes of the flexure joints in the first cylindrical member are substantially parallel to the longitudinal cylinder axis which is coincident with the spin axis of the suspension assembly and the longitudinal axes of the joints in the second cylindrical member are substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the second member. The first and second members are integrally joined together in concentric relationship with the bending axes of the four joints in each cylinder in radial alignment to form a composite cylindrical member. Patent number: 4206544Abstract: An apparatus for removing coupling element residuals from a coupled pair of slide fastener stringers comprises a scraper roll drivable for continued rotation and an idler tumbler roll around which the slide fastener stringers travel for rotating the tumbler roll. The tumbler roll has a radial wing which when the tumbler roll is rotated, brings the coupling element residuals thereon into contact with the scraper roll while it is revolving so as to scrape off the residuals reliably. The tumbler roll has pawl means for engaging the fastener stringers at a predetermined position thereon so as to place the coupling element residuals on the tumbler wing. The tumbler roll is rotatable in response to engagement of the pawl means with the fastener stringers being fed. Patent number: 4205543Abstract: A spring winder includes a base and a mandrel rotatably held against the base by a pair of mounting blocks which include aligned grooves in which the mandrel is seated. Each block is connected to the base by a pair of mounting screws which cooperate with associated compression springs for resiliently holding the mandrel between the mounting blocks and the base with a variable force. A length of spring wire is fed between a cam and washer rotatably mounted on the side of the base by means of an adjustment screw, the wire then being fed through an aperture in the adjacent end of the mandrel. The cam and washer are resiliently urged together by a compression spring for applying a drag to the wire which is variable by adjustment of the associated screw. A pin on the washer rides in a complementary groove in the cam for retaining the wire in position. As the mandrel is rotated the wire is wound thereon against the drag of the cam and washer to form a series of helical coils.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1978Date of Patent: June 3, 1980Assignee: Snap-On Tools CorporationInventor: Richard D.
