  • Patent number: 10471261
Abstract: A connector block that permits simultaneous and continuous interconnection of the three leads of the epicardial pacing wires, the pacemaker, and the ECG monitor on clear separately labeled connectors is provided. Circuitry is provided that allows the display of epicardial signals on the telemetry unit, while still preserving the ability to pace the heart from the pacemaker. When pacing the connector block prevents excessive loading of the pacer signals by the ECG monitor and/or damage to the monitor by the high-voltage pacer signals. The connector block may be used universally on all monitors without the need for sophisticated understanding of the electrical characteristics of the ECG monitor or concern for damage or improper signal loading.

  • Patent number: 10420527
Abstract: System and method for determining a heart rate and a heart rate variability of an individual is disclosed. An audio signal of heart sound is amplified. Subsequently, an envelope of the amplified audio signal is detected by squaring of the amplified audio signal to obtain emphasized high amplitude components and diminished low amplitude components of the audio signal, applying a band pass filter on the audio signal upon squaring and applying a Teager-Kaiser Energy Operator (TKEO) on the filtered audio signal. Peaks in the envelope of the audio signal are detected by calculating difference in magnitude of a point in the audio signal with an average of magnitude of earlier points in the audio signal from the last detected peak or the initial sample value in the processing window when no peak is detected. Based on the peaks detected, heart rate and heart rate variability for the individual are determined.

  • Patent number: 10369352
Abstract: A method is described for determining an optimal placement location for an auditory brainstem implant (ABI) electrode array. A cochlear implant (CI) electrode array is inserted into a patient cochlea, and the ABI electrode array is initially placed at an initial placement location on a patient brainstem. The optimal placement location for the ABI electrode array is then determined by, for multiple electrode contacts on the ABI electrode array: i. selecting a specific electrode contact, ii. delivering a stimulation signal to the selected electrode contact, iii. sensing an efferent nerve signal from the stimulation signal using the electrode contacts of the CI electrode array, and iv. determining a maximum response location in the patient cochlea where a largest efferent nerve signal is sensed. The ABI electrode array is then repositioned to the optimal placement location.

  • Patent number: 10368762
Abstract: Measuring a neural response to a stimulus comprises applying an electrical stimulus, then imposing a delay during which the stimulus electrodes are open circuited. During the delay, a neural response signal present at sense electrodes is measured with a measurement amplifier, while ensuring that an impedance between the sense electrodes is sufficiently large that a voltage arising on the sense electrode tissue interface in response to the stimulus is constrained to a level which permits assessment of the neural response voltage seen at the sense electrode. For example the input impedance to the measurement amplifier (ZIN) can be Z IN > Z C ? ( V S ? ? 1 - V S ? ? 2 ) V E , where ZC is the sense electrode(s) constant phase element impedance, Vs1?Vs2 is the differential voltage arising on the sense electrode tissue interface, and VE is the neural response voltage seen at the sense electrode.

  • Patent number: 10357656
Abstract: Presented herein are objective techniques for determining the upper limit of the dynamic range (i.e., the comfort level) of implanted stimulating contacts through the use of electrocochleography (ECoG) measurements to indirectly detect the onset and duration of a recipient's stapedius reflex. In particular, stimulation is delivered to a recipient's cochlea to trigger the onset of the stapedius reflex and the resulting acoustic impedance change is detected by monitoring the acoustically evoked ECoG.

  • Patent number: 10328261
Abstract: Embodiments described herein generally relate to devices and methods for stimulation or recording of accommodation of an eye. Accommodation of an eye naturally occurs through contraction of the ciliary muscle. Embodiments described herein can deliver electrostimulation to the ciliary muscle through a pair of electrodes which deliver power over an area of the sclera which is both positioned above and over an area which is substantially equivalent to the surface area of the ciliary muscle. In further embodiments, electrical impulses produced by the ciliary muscle can be received by one or more electrodes positioned proximate the ciliary muscle. Thus, by embodiments described herein, accommodation of the eye can be reproducibly achieved by external stimulation of the ciliary muscle or measured based on electrical impulses generated by or in conjunction with the ciliary muscle.

  • Patent number: 10328257
Abstract: An implantable medical device assembly includes a mounting structure, an electrode, and fixation tines. The electrode protrudes from a surface of the structure, offset proximally from a distal end of the structure, and approximately centered between first and second sides of the structure. Each tine extends away from the surface—a first adjacent the first side, and a second adjacent the second side. Each tine is elastically deformable from a relaxed condition, in which the tine extends toward a proximal end of the structure, to an extended condition, in which the tine extends away from the distal end of the structure. A delivery tool has first and second longitudinally extending sidewalls to receive passage of the structure therebetween. When the structure distal end is located between proximal ends of the sidewalls, a rail-like edge of each sidewall receives, and elastically deforms to the extended condition, a corresponding tine.

  • Patent number: 10328273
Abstract: Medical devices include a separate enclosure that houses a battery and electrically isolates the battery from external conditions such as any metal enclosures and ultimately isolates the battery from body fluids. Thus, the separate enclosure attaches to a housing of a medical device and provides for modularity of the battery which allows, for instance, different size batteries to be used with the same medical device design. The separate enclosure further prevents stimulation current from leaking back to the battery housing by providing the electrical isolation.
