  • Patent number: 8990377
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer instructions are provided to improve the push/pull workload management model with intelligent routing to effectively collect data from systems that consist of dynamic sub-systems. The invention improves the push/pull model of the referenced invention with intelligent request routing to solve the above problem. An API is exposed in the workload manager enabling its request router to decline requests to route to idle sub-systems. This allows the monitoring agent to avoid sending a pull request to an idle sub-system. Each sub-system will push the data to the agent as it enters the idle state. The agent caches the data it receives from idle sub-systems and combines it with data it pulls from active and stopped sub-systems.

  • Patent number: 8966001
Abstract: A deployment and distribution model improves content delivery with a business incentive for placement of kiosks with one or more wireless access points in public locations so that portable media players (PMPs) can receive media content (e.g., audio, video, text, haptic content, etc.). In addition, coordination between subscribing users of PMPs, vendors who provide kiosks, and a network central controller of a content distribution system allow for prepositioning of video content at the kiosks through economically desirable low data rate communication links from the network (e.g., dial-up modem, DSL, etc.); coordinated queuing of downloads (e.g., partial downloads) between kiosk to PMP, peer-to-peer (P2P) downloading between PMPs, and uploads from PMP to kiosk; billing/crediting to correspond with such participation in the distribution; and changing priority/selection of prepositioning of content at kiosks to reflect a clientele profile.

  • Patent number: 8914445
Abstract: The invention provides a method for Diameter prefix authorization. The method includes sending a request for a prefix by a Prefix Authorization (PA) client or Diameter client to a Prefix Authorization (PA) server or Diameter server. The method also includes replying with an answer message by the PA server to the PA client to provide a first prefix with a first lifetime. The invention further includes a method for initiating IPv6 address renumbering by sending a message for renumbering from the PA server. The method also includes receiving the message by the PA client and sending a message to the PA server to acquire a second prefix. The method further includes receiving the second prefix from the PA server with an answer message with a second lifetime, where the second prefix is different from the first prefix.

  • Patent number: 8898279
Abstract: A system monitors performance in a network that includes several network resources. The system obtains a list of targets in the network. The targets include selected ones of the resources. The system sends a request to the targets, receives responses from the targets, and determines a status of the targets based on the received responses or a lack of responses from the targets. The system then analyzes the status of the targets to determine compliance with the service-level guarantee.

  • Patent number: 8886820
Abstract: A method is provided for handing off flows. The flow, having a flow identifier, is established between a terminal and a correspondent. The terminal has as many terminal identifiers as access interfaces to access networks of mutually different data technologies. A first execution entity converts a handoff execution order emanating from a decision entity into execution messages by taking into account a hierarchy of execution entities of a current network. After a handoff decision has been taken for a given pair of flow and terminal identifiers, the decision entity sends an execution order to the first execution entity. The first execution entity: selects a mobility protocol from the mobility protocols supported by the execution entities of the hierarchy associated with the current network; selects in the hierarchy at least one execution entity responsible for executing the mobility protocol; and sends to the selected execution entities respective execution messages.

  • Patent number: 8856209
Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods for synchronization in a networked environment. For example, some embodiments provide methods for synchronizing a client device having a client media time reference with a server device having a server media time reference. In some cases such methods are embodied in computer readable code that is executable on one or more processors. Furthermore, some embodiments provide hardware, such as networked media devices that are configured to perform such methods. In overview, in some embodiments a client obtains timing information from a server and, on the basis of this timing information, applies an adjustment to a client control time reference, thereby to synchronize the client media time reference with the server media time reference. Some embodiments are particularly directed to the situation where there is a desire to synchronize networked media devices across a combination of wired and wireless networks.
