  • Patent number: 8838734
Abstract: A system and method can support a federated portal using a producer web application on a web server and a plurality of consumer web applications. The producer web application is a container web application that hosts a plurality of portlet applications that are deployed and maintained separately. Each consumer web application is adapted to collect and present available portlet applications hosted on the producer web application and offer them as a unified portal to end users. Upon receiving a request from a consumer web application, said producer web application can map the consumer web application to one particular role in a role set which includes a plurality of roles, check for portlet applications that are available based on the particular role, and response to the consumer web application with a message that describes the available portlet applications hosted in the producer web application.

  • Patent number: 8805935
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer instructions for managing multi-threaded conversations in an instant messaging system. The present invention provides a menu option to allow the start of a new topic of discussion within the current instant messaging session. When a new topic is selected, a new thread of conversation is created within the messaging window that is segregated from previous topics of discussion. This new thread of conversation may be created at all other locations for all of the parties involved in the instant messaging session. In this manner, each party to a messaging session containing multiple conversations may be able to understand which response is related to which thread of conversation. In addition, a menu option may be provided by the instant messaging application to allow a user to merge one or more of the threaded conversations into a single conversation.

  • Patent number: 8788665
Abstract: A server array controller that includes a Data Flow Segment (DFS) and at least one Control Segment (CS). The DFS includes the hardware-optimized portion of the controller, while the CS includes the software-optimized portions. The DFS performs most of the repetitive chores including statistics gathering and per-packet policy enforcement (e.g. packet switching). The DFS also performs tasks such as that of a router, a switch, or a routing switch. The CS determines the translation to be performed on each flow of packets, and thus performs high-level control functions and per-flow policy enforcement. Network address translation (NAT) is performed by the combined operation of the CS and DFS. The CS and DFS may be incorporated into one or more separate blocks. The CS and DFS are independently scalable. Additionally, the functionality of either the DFS or the CS may be separately implemented in software and/or hardware.

  • Patent number: 8788643
Abstract: A method for managing an event by a Management system for an Internet Data Center (IDC). The IDC includes an Information Technology and Network Management System (IT&N) for managing the IDC, and a Building Management System (BMS) for monitoring facilities related to the IDC. The BMS is connected to the IT&N. An occurrence of the event is detected. The IT&N launches a first program that activates variables defining a critical situation impacted by the event. The IT&N starts a second program associated with requirements of a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with respect to the activated variables. The second program chooses actions dictated by the requirements of the SLA with respect to the activated variables. The actions are performed by executing internal commands within the IT&N or by the BMS performing the actions after the BMS has received an identification of the actions from the IT&N.

  • Patent number: 8782207
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for recovering from a catastrophic failure that results in a large number of user endpoints attempting to come on line simultaneously after an NGN is restored. In an enhanced DNS load balancer, DNS queries from the user end points relating to a particular NGN edge device are selectively dropped if a rate of queries for the particular edge device suddenly increases or exceeds a threshold. The query dropping may also be based in part on the class of service assigned to the user endpoint.

  • Patent number: 8756294
Abstract: A data Interface for transferring digital data between a host and a client over a communication path using packet structures linked together to form a communication protocol for communicating a pre-selected set of digital control and presentation data. The signal protocol is used by link controllers configured to generate, transmit, and receive packets forming the communications protocol, and to form digital data into one or more types of data packets, with at least one residing in the host device and being coupled to the client through the communications path. The interface provides a cost-effective, low power, bi-directional, high-speed data transfer mechanism over a short-range “serial” type data link, which lends itself to implementation with miniature connectors and thin flexible cables which are especially useful in connecting display elements such as wearable micro-displays to portable computers and wireless communication devices.

  • Patent number: 8694621
Abstract: A first capture system that captures network communication events related to an application, and a second capture system that captures internal processing events related to the application. A visualization system analyzes the data captured by each of the capture systems, synchronizes and correlates the data, and presents an integrated display of these communication and processing events. In a preferred embodiment, the communicated messages include an identifier of the application, and the processing components also associate an identifier of the application to each recorded processing event. To facilitate the integrated display of the events, the visualization system synchronizes the recorded communication and processing events to a common time base.

  • Patent number: 8688820
Abstract: A system receives a management configuration set defining at least one event to be detected in the application server, and a respective associated action to be taken upon detection of the events. For each of the events to be detected in the application server, the system instantiates an event class to detect the event. For each of the actions to be taken upon detection of the event by the event class, the system instantiates a respective action class to perform that action on behalf of the event class that detects the event. The system operates the instantiated event classes to detect events and to send an event notification to each of the respective action class associated with that event.

  • Patent number: 8659657
Abstract: A system, method, and program product is provided that configures video handlers pertaining to a dependent individual. Configuring includes setting alert thresholds. Visual locations are configured. Visual images that pertain to caregivers of the dependent individual are configured. Video streams are received from video sources. Video streams are compared to configured locations to classify the dependent individual's location. Video stream is analyzed to determine whether the dependent individual is alone or with others. If with others, a list of known persons is determined by comparing the video streams with the configured visual images. The configured video handlers are initiated based on the inputs of the location and the people present with the dependent individual. Video handlers trigger alerts when thresholds are reached. Alerts include performing actions to protect the dependent individual from harm.

  • Patent number: 8655939
Abstract: A method and system processes data in a distributed computing system to survive an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack. The computing system has proximal select content (SC) data stores and geographically distributed distal data stores, all with respective access controls. The data input or put through the computing system is processed to obtain the SC and other associated content. The process then extracts and stores such content in the proximal SC data stores and geographically distributed distal SC data stores. The system further processes data to geographically distribute the data with data processes including: copy, extract, archive, distribute, and a copy-extract-archive and distribute process with a sequential and supplemental data destruction process. In this manner, the data input is distributed or spread out over the geographically distributed distal SC data stores. The system and method permits reconstruction of the processed data only in the presence of a respective access control.

  • Patent number: 8645527
Abstract: A network monitoring device includes a data structure for maintaining information about endpoints involved in network flows. Each endpoint, either a source or a destination for a network flow, has information maintained in a modified binary trie, having a branch for each bit of the source or destination address, but with interior nodes having only a single child node elided. A pruning thread is given a limited amount of time for operation, with the effect that the data structure is maintained available for use except for only that limited amount of time. In the event that the pruning thread is unable to prune the entire data structure, it maintains a marker indicating where last it left off, and returns to that location in the data structure at a later pruning operation.
