  • Patent number: 8626882
Abstract: A distributed embedded system that allows for the reconfiguration of tasks and messages. The system includes a system configuration manager and a plurality of electronic control units (ECU) each having an ECU configuration manager. Each ECU configuration manager stores the current configuration data for task scheduling and bus/network accessing/retrieving for the current schedule for that ECU. The system configuration manager includes a separate configuration data table for each ECU that can be reconfigured by programming signals sent on a system bus. The system configuration manager transmits the new configuration data from the data table on the bus to the ECU configuration manager if the scheduling of the tasks, message retrieval from the bus and message transmission on the bus changes for an ECU as a result of adding new tasks or new ECUs to the system.

  • Patent number: 8364746
Abstract: A system and method determines a geographic position of a mobile device in communication with an IP-based wireless telecommunications network. A wireless connection between the mobile device and the IP-based wireless telecommunications network is established when the mobile device registers with a network controller (NC) through an access point (AP). When a geographical position is needed for the mobile device (e.g., a 911 call), messages are exchanged between the NC and the SMLC, where the SMLC retrieves information from a database that is used to identify the geographic position of the mobile device. The database can store a variety of information related to mobile devices such as: last known position, IP address, MAC address, device or subscriber identifier, last CGI, etc. The geographical position is communicated back to the NC, which can then forward the position information to a switch for processing such as for 911 calls.

  • Patent number: 8346930
Abstract: A multimedia processing device and method for using virtual resources to manage multimedia content system resources and access to such resources by system applications. A multimedia content processing device, such as a set-top box, is configured to provide virtual resources that emulate actual resources, such as a media playing resource, in a manner that allows system applications, such as a television or video on demand application, to believe they have access to the actual underlying system resource. The method includes providing a virtual resource for a system application seeking access to a system resource. The virtual resource can be configured in an attached mode, in which the virtual resource forwards information between an active system application and the accessed resource. The virtual resource also can be configured in a detached mode, in which the virtual resource emulates the actual resource to which a non-active system application is seeking access.

  • Patent number: 8321548
Abstract: A method of specifying changes to a communications network is disclosed. The method uses a network model representing a current configuration of the communications network. Scope information is received defining a subset of the network model to which changes are to be made. Model information relating to the defined subset of the network model is copied in accordance with the scope information, to create a partial model copy. The partial model copy is then modified to represent a planned configuration of the communications network. The partial model may be validated as consistent with the network model for the current configuration, and to reserve resources within it. Changes within the partial model may be passed to other models, including the current configuration.

  • Patent number: 8316083
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system and method for client interoperability. In one embodiment, a method for client interoperability comprises establishing a network connection between a client and a proxy. The client requests a connection factory from the proxy. The proxy then obtains the connection factory from an application server using a Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI). Using the connection factory, a connection to a connection host from the client is created. When the client sends a message, the proxy receives the message and routes the message to a destination server. Similarly, when the client receives a message, the proxy receives the message from a destination server and passes the message to the client. The client can be specifically configured to extend JMS operability to a desired language. In one embodiment the client is a .NET client.

  • Patent number: 8284251
Abstract: In a tire type determination method, a surface image of a tread portion of a tire mounted on a vehicle is captured by a camera fixed at a predetermined position in a tilted hanger conveyor line, which is located downstream in a vehicle-carrying direction with respect to a position at which the tire of the vehicle is lifted from the ground and starts moving diagonally upward. Further, image information is extracted from the surface image of the tread portion, and a tire type is determined by checking the image information against registered information. A vehicle inspection system includes a tire type determination portion and a vehicle type information obtaining portion so as to determine the tire type using the method. A conformance determination portion determines whether the tire type determined by the tire type determination portion conforms to a specified tire type searched based on the vehicle type information.
