  • Patent number: 11109104
Abstract: Novel techniques are described for viewer compositing using media playback systems for enhanced media recommendation and consumption. For example, a display device can be in communication with a media recommendation and consumption compositor (MRCC) system. When a group of viewers desires a shared media consumption experience, the MRCC system can detect the group of viewers and can obtain respective viewer profiles, which can be used to generate a composite profile representing a composite of the group of viewers. The MRCC system can determine an available content space indicating the content available for consumption and can compute a content recommendation space as a function of the composite viewer profile and the available content space that defines recommended content options for the composited group of viewers. A recommendation interface can be output to indicate recommended content options for selecting and viewing.

  • Patent number: 11092820
Abstract: There are several types of plenoptic devices having their proprietary file format. At present there is no standard supporting the acquisition and transmission of multidimensional information for an exhaustive over-view of the different parameters upon which a light-field depends. As such acquired light-field data for different cameras have a diversity of formats. The notion of pixel beam, which represents a volume occupied by a set of rays of light in an object space of an optical system of a camera is thus introduced. The method according to the invention enables to provide data representative of a collection of pixel beams describing a first optical system that is agnostic since these data are obtained by imaging the collection of pixel beams through a second optical system. Such data representative of a collection of pixel beams enable the generation of parametrized output images from which post-processing.

  • Patent number: 11082753
Abstract: A profile provider: (i) associates a primary online device (OD1) with a set-top box (STB); (ii) a location of OD1 at some point in time is estimated to be “near” the STB, thereby establishing a STB proxy location; (iii) one or more secondary online devices (OD2s) are observed to be located “near” the STB proxy location and are associated with the STB; and (iv) a television advertisement is selected to be directed to the STB, which selection is based at least in part on profile information linked to one of the associated OD2s. The method can be particularly advantageous in situations wherein: the STB is not connected to any computer network; the STB is not ever connected to the same local area network as OD1 or OD2; or television service (used by the STB) and online access (used by OD1 and OD2s) are provided by different service providers.

  • Patent number: 11082743
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for enabling presence-based and/or use-based services. In one embodiment, a presence database and an evaluation entity collect information relating to a device's location and activity. The presence database collects location-based data to build anonymized user profiles; estimates a physical location of the device; and provides targeted content to the device. The user profiles are stored at e.g., a user premises, or at a headend network or elsewhere within the “cloud”. Additionally, in one variant, signals are collected from “smart” appliances (in a home or other premises) to create personal, shared, and family environmental settings which are instantiated when a user enters the premises. Methods and apparatus to collect browsing behavior across desktop and mobile devices on third party sites (including web browsing, social networking, and e-commerce) which are represented by the managed network are also provided.
