  • Patent number: 11032623
Abstract: The present invention discloses a subtitled image generation apparatus that includes a subtitle generation circuit, an image delay circuit and an overlaying circuit. The subtitle generation circuit receives audio data to generate a subtitle image pattern. The image delay circuit includes a first delay path having delay buffer circuit, a second delay path having a data amount decreasing circuit, the delay buffer circuit and a data amount restoring circuit, and a control circuit. The control circuit controls the first delay path to store and delay the image data when a data amount of the image data matches a direct-writing condition, and controls the second delay path to decrease the data amount of the image data, to store and delay the image data and to restore the data amount of the image data when the data amount fails to match the direct-writing condition. The overlaying circuit overlays the subtitle image pattern on the image data having a corresponding timing to generate an output subtitled image.

  • Patent number: 11012749
Abstract: Recommendation engine apparatus and associated methods provide content compiled from various sources and selected to match user preferences. In one embodiment, the recommendation apparatus comprises a headend entity; in another, it is co-located on a user's CPE. In one embodiment, the recommendation engine creates content records from content metadata for comparison to a user profile. The user profile is pre-programmed; however has the ability to dynamically shift toward a user's preferences as the user takes actions regarding content. Client applications are utilized to compile and present content; feedback mechanisms are utilized to enable “learning” from user activities to generate more precise recommendations as well as to “unlearn” stale preferences. Recommended content is displayed in the form of a playlist, or as a continuous stream on a virtual channel, or presented in an electronic program guide. A business rules “engine” useful in implementing operational or business goals is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10992999
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for seamless media content switching during fixed-duration breaks. A user can request that a first media content item played by a client device during a fixed-length break be skipped. A server can determine an amount of time remaining in the break, determine an updated playlist of one or more media content items that together at least partially but not completely consume the entire amount of remaining time, and provide the updated playlist to the client device. The client device can determine a delay duration amount of time that it will continue playing the first media content item before skipping to a media content item from the updated playlist. This delay duration is determined such that the entire break can be filled with media content without any dead air or clipped media content.
