  • Patent number: 5343880
Abstract: A fluid dispensing wand having a fluid reservoir removably attachable to a wand for applying a fluid such as hair oil, coloring, lightener, highlight, detangler, or conditioner to the hair. A fluid delivery means disperses fluid from the reservoir throughout the wand to effect even distribution of the fluid throughout the hair. The fluid delivery means comprises a series of conduits and/or a porous material. Teeth and/or fins are formed upon the wand such that the wand may be moved through the hair in a comb-like fashion to effect transfer of the fluid thereto. An absorbent covering may optionally be formed over the wand intermediate the teeth or fins to further enhance the even distribution of fluid. A plug or seal preferably closes the reservoir, thus providing a fluid cartridge. Thus, various cartridges may be installed upon the wand to effect application of various desired fluids to the hair.

  • Patent number: 5343882
Abstract: A kit includes a carrying case that has a powder absorbing mat fixed to an inner surface thereof. A plurality of foot-care accessories are also stored in the kit. The foot-care accessories include a flexible bag that is formed of material that will store medicated powder yet will dispense that powder on contact with a user's foot. The flexible bag is interdigitated between the user's toes and is attached to the foot. A user places his or her foot on either the mat or the flexible bag, scrapes or brushes the foot, and dusts the medicated powder onto the foot. Any powder that falls off is stored in the bag or the mat for application to the bottom of the user's foot. The bag is then applied to the foot if desired.

  • Patent number: 5337764
Abstract: A dispensing comb for applying a fluid to the hair has a body with a plurality of teeth formed thereon and at least one, preferably two, fluid reservoirs removably attached to the body such that fluid communication is provided from the reservoirs to the teeth. The two reservoirs have thin seals which rupture when the two reservoirs are interconnected such that two different fluids contained therein intermix. Attachment of the two reservoirs to the comb body similarly causes the puncture of a seal to facilitate fluid communication of the mixed components through the comb to the teeth thereof. In a first embodiment, a pin disposed upon the first reservoir punctures a seal in the second reservoir and two fluids then intermix via a bore in the pin. A similar pin, disposed upon the body, punctures a similar seal in the first reservoir to effect fluid communication from of the mixture from the two reservoirs to the teeth of the comb.

  • Patent number: 5335679
Abstract: A thin strip of liquid-impermeable polymeric material has a strip of porous material secured to one of its surface to form a flexible sheet. A pressure sensitive adhesive element, which is more adherent to the porous material than to hair, is adhered to the other surface of the porous strip. The pressure sensitive adhesive element is used to attach the flexible sheet firmly, but releaseably, to the hair of the head of a person adjacent to the portion of hair which is to be treated. In using the sheet, a colorist places the first end of the sheet with the adhesive element on the hair and then presses on the liquid-impermeable surface to cause the adhesive element to firmly adhere it in place against the underlying hair. The colorist then weaves an amount of hair over the face of the liquid-impermeable surface, followed by the treatment of that hair with a wet hair treating agent.

  • Patent number: 5329946
Abstract: A hair line shaping guide which acts as a templet and enables a shaver to shave his face, chin, neck and head in any desired and predetermined pattern. The templet has one straight edge on one side, two types of curves on the other side and plurality of holes for attachment of auxiliary, related components which can, with the help of the holes, be moved vertically or rotated clockwise or counter-clockwise. When the templet is put against the face area needing patterned shaving the razor and hair cutting instruments can be guided by the selected curve on the templet and give the shaver a clean shave with neat smooth hair line. When the auxiliary templet for patterning mustache is attached to the main templet and superimposed on the mustache it guides the razor and hair cutting instruments to give any desired pattern of mustache. When comb is attached to the main templet the device can also be used for combing hair. The hair line shaping guide can be folded in half for compact packing and storing.

  • Patent number: 5327919
Abstract: A water extraction device for partially drying wet hair surrounding a perm rod disposed in a person's hair includes a housing having an inlet and an outlet. The inlet includes a shroud which is dimensioned to closely encompass the perm rod. A motor and fan are provided for producing a substantial vacuum at the inlet and a flow of air from the inlet to the outlet. The substantial vacuum pulls water from the wet hair and the flow of air transports the water toward the outlet. The device further includes one or more water separators for removing the water from the flow of air. The water separated from the air is stored in a holding tank or communicated directly to a plumbing drain. By drawing a flow of air through the wet hair in this manner, surface tension tending to hold water in capillary size passages defined between adjacent hair strands is overcome, thus entraining water droplets in the air flow for collection.

  • Patent number: 5327918
Abstract: For use with infants and toddlers, an improved manicuring aid has a cylindrical body (10) of semi-rigid plastic with an interior cavity (16). The body has four shallow grooves (28) for guiding and separating the fingertips; two slots (12) and (14) through which an elastic cloth restraining strap (18) for restraining and controlling finger movement is drawn; and two fingertip support ledges (30) and (32) projecting from the body. The strap comprises two hook-and-loop strips (24) and (26) and a doubled strap end (20) which is engaged when drawn through one of the two slots. Multiple support ledges and slots permit the manicuring aid to be grasped in multiple ways. Unrestricted access to the interior cavity facilitates storage, removal, and use of the elastic cloth strap. The manicuring aid does not have small parts which can cause choking or be swallowed.

  • Patent number: 5325878
Abstract: A fluid dispensing comb for applying a fluid to the hair has a body upon which a plurality of teeth are formed such that they are configured to have a V-shape, thereby defining a groove. An absorbent pad is disposed within the groove defined by the teeth and functions as a reservoir and application means for containing and dispensing a fluid such as hair oil, coloring, or conditioner to the hair. The absorbent pad is preferably replaceable and may be inserted into the groove of the teeth from the end of the comb, from the top of the comb, or alternatively by pivoting the teeth along a living hinge, formed at the apex or one end thereof. Alternatively, the absorbent pad may be permanently molded into the groove of the teeth. A cuff may optionally be disposed upon the comb to catch and/or absorb excess fluid which would otherwise tend to drip therefrom.
