  • Patent number: 5320116
Abstract: Compact has an unlatching slide with a button surface and formed with front and rear cam surfaces. The hinged cover is held closed by a detent and the powder tray is held in the base also by detents. Light finger pressure on the unlatching slide button causes the front cam to force up the hinged cover disengaging the cover detent to open the compact, and heavy finger pressure on the unlatching slide forces the powder tray up disengaging the tray detents and liberating the tray from the frame so that it may be replaced.

  • Patent number: 5318051
Abstract: A comb is formed from two half-comb sections laid one on top of the other. Each half of the comb includes every other tooth of the full comb, such that when the two halves are mated, the two sets of teeth will be interleaved to form a comb having narrow inter-tooth gaps. This allows each of the half-comb blanks to be directly stamped from a sheet material. Where it is desired to electrically insulate adjacent teeth from one another, a non-conductive separator is interposed between the two half-comb sections during assembly.

  • Patent number: 5316025
Abstract: Firstly, a permanent wave agent is placed onto the hair and thereafter the hairs are laid into a treatment shape. This treatment shape is such that a subsequent aerating of the hair by means of warm air the hair is exposed to the warm air uniformly from the area of the tips of the hair to the area of the base of the hair. In order to produce, for instance, permanent waves the hair is wound to a treatment shape corresponding to a hollow cylinder, such that an acting onto the hair proceeds from the inner jacket and from the outer jacket as well of the hollow cylinder. After the warm air treatment the permanent wave agent is rinsed out and the hair is released to attain the desired, final shape. The method allows a fast, simple and considerate treatment of the hair, and it is possible to produce much larger curls than hitherto possible.

  • Patent number: 5316028
Abstract: Dental floss is used by almost everyone and recommended by all dentists and professional dental organizations, to preserve and protect the health and the longevity of teeth. The dental floss of the present invention consists of an elongated strand having two or more sections of varying thicknesses and of a continuous length, said varying thickness repeating themselves in many multiples and said multiples being pre-marked for cutting for use. The packaging for the floss of the present invention permits said continuous length of varying thicknesses to be marked for cutting and use at a predetermined length so that the predetermined length contains floss of varying diameters in the central portion thereof and normal floss thickness at either end.

  • Patent number: 5316026
Abstract: Method and apparatus for making a decorative pattern on a finger or toe nail using fixture that may be a two part hinged fixture that receives a screen and holds it in juxtaposition to a nail. Articulated arms or a base plate position the fixture relative to the finger or toe, with the nail exposed through the fixture. A screen is inserted into the fixture. A coloring liquid is put onto the screen and is expressed through the screen by a squeegee that coacts with the fixture and resiliently deflects the screen. The part of the fixture holding the screen can be pivoted up and away from the nail to avoid smearing and facilitate changing of the screen. Multi-color patterns can be made by using a plurality of screens with different coloring liquids, such as nail polishes or lacquers.

  • Patent number: 5316027
Abstract: Earlier devices of the genre, had a yoke-like head for brushing the teeth, and a cowling of reentrantly folded flexible material interconnected with the arms of the head so as to straddle the slot between the arms. The midsection at the bight of the cowling had pleats between it and the wings of the cowling, and together they formed an articulated linkage between the wings for preserving the bias on the wings during the tooth brushing operation. In the present device, the arms 12 have only brackets 34 on the terminal end portions thereof, the relatively outboard portions 38 of which elbow out in front of the arms, like cowcatchers, below the terminal ends 20 of the arms. The portions 38 in turn have mitt-like brushes 50 thereon comprised of fields of spaced individual bristle of 0.

  • Patent number: 5313963
Abstract: The hairpiece base invention relates to hairpieces and in particular to a improved base which renders the hair piece virtually undetectable to sight and to touch. The invention comprises a mesh and a mesh binder. The mesh affords structural strength in the lateral plane, and it serves as an anchor for artificial hairs. The mesh binder fills the region between the mesh strands, and its thickness is approximately equal to the diameter of the mesh strands. At the perimeter of the base, the mesh binder edge may be tapered in thickness.

  • Patent number: 5311890
Abstract: A teeth cleaning element containing threading end portions for cleaning relatively large spaces in the teeth consists of from about 400 to about 800 filaments in an elongated bundle that is from about 1,200 to 2,400 about denier. The filaments at the mid-portion of the length of the bundle are textured with the crimps and crinkles of the texturing of the several filaments being intermingled and in contact at numerous points and being adhered together at the contact points to form a bulky, longitudinal, longitudinally and laterally resilient mass. The filaments at the opposite end portions of the bundle that extend from the bulky mid-portion are adhered together in compact, smooth parallel relation.

  • Patent number: 5311889
Abstract: An integrally formed dental floss and leader which lends itself to oral prophylaxis especially for implants and bridges. The floss is captured by the leader through a hinged door which swings from an open to a closed position during fabrication to provide an integral unit for use by a floss user when closed. A leading portion of the door fits flush within a complementally formed support channel within a tethered end of the leader. A trailing portion of the door projects with an extension of a floor of the support channel, defining a tongue, to provide a floss support. A hinge defines a transition between the floor extension and the door. The hinge allows the door to pivot about the floss and enter the support channel with the floss interposed between the door and the tongue. Shoulders border the support channel providing reinforcement to the tethered end.

  • Patent number: 5311888
Abstract: The present invention is an ergonomic make-up shield. The make-up shield comprises an eye portion having a curved smooth edge for engaging against a person's face adjacent to the eye. The eye portion further has two side edges which define a first plane. The make-up shield also comprises a handle portion integrally attached to the eye portion. The handle portion forms a solid closed planar surface extending downwardly in a second plane essentially perpendicular to the first plane. Preferably, the closed planar surface provides a surface area of at least 0.50 square inches for providing ample surface area for ease of handling and ergonomic wrist positioning. The natural position of the wrist while grasping the handle portion between the thumb and the index finger turns the hand and knuckles sideways to provide a clear open area which is specifically the area where the other hand applies the make-up to the face.
