  • Patent number: 4680436
Abstract: A contactless proximity switch and mounting arrangement for determining the position of a movable member within a cylinder which has two end covers secured on the cylinder by means of a plurality of tie rods, includes a switch housing which secures to one of the tie rods. A contact opening formed in the switch housing has disposed therein, a switch having a pair of contacts and a permanent magnet disposed in a fixed manner. One pole of the permanent magnet is connected to a first contact, while the second pole is disposed in a contacting relation to the cylinder. A second contact is electrically coupled to the cylinder at a position a predetermined distance from where the second pole is disposed. As the movable member, which is constructed of a ferromagnetic material, nears the switch housing, the air gap between the second contact and second pole is bridged and the contacts close indicating the proximity of the movable member to the switch element.

  • Patent number: 4679118
Abstract: Dissipation of heat from a socketed leadless electronic chip-carrier package is promoted by a heat-conducting metal socket cap distinctively overlying and guiding heat away from the socketed package fully along a broad planar surface area, the socket cap being of a unitary construction which both mechanically holds the package securely mated with a multi-pin socket and also cools the package by way of an integrated array of heat-radiating elements; edge clasping of the cap with a chip-carrying socket avoids interference with needed conduction of heat away from central areas of the package and cap.

  • Patent number: 4677525
Abstract: Disclosed is a gas-insulated switchgear in which three circuit breakers are arranged in tandem between a pair of main bus bars spaced apart by a predetermined distance. The connection between the three circuit breakers is such that adjacent circuit breakers are connected by a connecting bus bar to their lead-out parts remoter from each other, and disconnecting switches, etc. are disposed on the connecting bus bars. This arrangement shortens the distance between the adjacent circuit breakers, so that the gas-insulated switchgear can be shortened in the length in the tandem direction of the circuit breakers.

  • Patent number: 4677263
Abstract: A position switch is set forth which is adapted to generate a signal whenever two masses, such as a vehicle sprung and unsprung mass, are at or nearer than a desired spacing. The switch includes a grounded, conical, coiled spring attached to one mass, and an electrically charged plate secured to the other mass. The spring has a relaxed length to lie adjacent the plate when the masses are at the desired spacing. When the masses are brought together the spring contacts the plate, is compressed, and the plate is grounded generating a current signal indicating that the masses are at or nearer than the desired spacing.

  • Patent number: 4674006
Abstract: A contact array assembly for use with a computer-controlled printed circuit oard testing apparatus includes an array of contacts into segments individually and releasably supported by supporting rods resting in a base plate. The space so created is utilized for accommodating the electronic circuitry components associated with these contact array segments and connected through plug-type connectors to a two-dimensional addressing and control logic on the base plate. These constructional units, referred to as modules or driver plates, are identical and may replace each other in any of the positions on the base plate. The invention results in a printed circuit board testing apparatus which may be designed for a very large number of contacts, but can be operated initially with a reduced amount of electronic circuitry and may be expanded later on, as desired.

  • Patent number: 4668847
Abstract: A relative translation of a first cam with respect to an electrical switch is established between first and second relative positions, whereby the electrical switch is established in a selected one of first and second states. A second cam has first and second detent positions respectively corresponding to the first and second relative positions. A pivot pivotally mounts the second cam, and a pneumatic impulse is generated for establishing the relative translation of the first cam with respect to the electrical switch. A fixed cam follower engages the second cam, whereby, in response to the impulses, the relative translation is established, a relative movement is established between the second cam and the fixed cam follower, the second cam effects a pivotal movement about the pivot, and the second cam is detained by the cam follower in one of the detent positions. Thus successive ones of the impulses control movement of the electrical switch alternately between the first and second states.

  • Patent number: 4665286
Abstract: A single phase induction motor starting and automatic reversing switch has two pairs of springy vertically spaced apart switch blades supported in opposed cantilever fashion on an insulating base. Each pair consists of an upper blade and a lower blade. A nominally stationary contact is mounted in spaced relation above each upper blade and below each lower blade. Opposite ends of the motor starting winding are connected in common between the upper and lower stationary contacts. A shaft of insulating material with a lever at one end operates the switch. The shaft extends between the vertically spaced apart blade pairs and has axially displaced oppositely radially extending arms, one between one pair of blades and the other between the other set of blades. Turning the operator shaft in a first direction causes one arm to press a blade against one upper stationary contact and the other arm to press a blade against one lower contact.
