  • Patent number: 4043283
Abstract: A sewing head employing twin needles for use with a material feed assembly at a sewing station, employing a linkage drive configuration enabling original rotary motion to be converted into linear rather than arcuate during formation of tacks. The same drive source is employed for both longitudinal and lateral motion, with a movable link added into the main feed link assembly. By means of a guide member, one portion of the main drive is confined to longitudinal motion only, while the other portion is free to go through the lateral motion separately. By employing an additional movable link and designing the main feed link as a two part link, while at the same time employing the same drive source for longitudinal and lateral motion, it is possible to achieve the necessary linear parallel motion. By the aforementioned arrangement, the drive link achieves linear motion and provides for a uniform tacking pattern for both needles.

  • Patent number: 4043000
Abstract: A knee joint coupling comprises a pair of similar U-shaped links each having a base and two parallel legs extending perpendicularly from the base. One of the legs of each link has a hole through it and the other leg has a pin extending from it in the direction either toward or away from the hole. When the pin of each link is fitted into the hole of the other link, there is assembled a knee-joint type of coupling due to the pivoting action of the pins in the holes. The links may be held assembled by means such as screw members inserted through the bases and into the region between the legs of the two links. Alternatively one of the links may have its base fixed to one member while the other link is fixed to the other member in which case the two members are pivotable as a door hinge or the like relative to each other.

  • Patent number: 4041570
Abstract: A resettable fire link is described comprising a releasable member, gripping means for engaging said releasable member in the normal position and for releasing said releasable member in the activated position. Said gripping means comprises heat responsive means for causing said gripping means to move to the normal position in response to an ambient temperature and for causing said gripping means to move to the activated position in response to a preselected increase in said ambient temperature. Mechanical activation means are also provided for movement from a first withdrawn to a second extended position. In said first withdrawn position, the mechanical activation means allows said gripping means to move freely between its normal and said activated position, as aforesaid. The mechanical activation means also may independently cause said gripping means to move to the activated position.

  • Patent number: 4038725
Abstract: There are disclosed three embodiments of a fastener, a method of using a fastener, and a fragmentary portion of a mold. The fastener has a socket and a head joined by a flexible filament. The socket has a disc-shaped body, a transverse opening through the body, projections extending into the opening, and a post joined to each projection. The posts extend into the space within a side wall of the opening. The projections flex when the head is inserted through the opening, but the posts prevent attempted withdrawal of the head through the opening thereby preventing uncoupling of the head from the socket. The projections are so close that when the head is inserted into the socket, some of the plastics polymeric material of the projections deforms permanently, thereby work hardening the projections at the deformation. One of the fasteners has a head, a pair of relatively rigid sockets, a flexible hinge connecting the sockets to each other, and a flexible filament connecting the head and the pair of sockets.

  • Patent number: 4036415
Abstract: A process of simultaneously turning and blocking a leather glove is disclosed, in which the fingers of the glove are initially mounted upon elongated members of relatively small diameter, and are turned onto heated mandrels of relatively larger diameter. The stretching of the finger portions as they are turned in this manner, combined with the application of heat from the heated mandrels, causes simultaneous blocking of the glove fingers as they are turned. In an apparatus for carrying out this process, the finger receiving members of lesser diameter are rods, and the mandrels onto which the fingers are turned are tubular. A wrist clamp is provided, which grips the inside of the cuff portion of the glove, and draws the glove off the finger mounting members onto the heated mandrels by movement relative to the finger mounting members.

  • Patent number: 4032990
Abstract: A heat resistant glove for use in foundries or the like and for use in handling extremely hot objects such as molten metal ladles or the like. The glove has an insulating portion which fits between the liner of the glove and the outside glove. More particularly, the insulating porton is comprised of one piece and which is formed as a double pocket so that it can be simply slipped over both the index finger and the thumb of the liner before the liner is inserted in the outer glove. Thus, the gripping area of the hand is provided with additional insulative protection as are both the index finger and thumb. The double pocket portion is thus firmly secured between the glove liner and the outer glove without the need for sewing the insulating material in place or otherwise affixing it to the liner or the glove.

  • Patent number: 4031639
Abstract: Apparatus for spreading and supplying laundered flatwork to an ironer in a squared condition. The apparatus is carried by a single frame. A central main drive belt and a pincher belt above the main drive belt driven by contact therewith extend along the center of the main frame for a portion of the length of the frame. These belts draw the flatwork as supplied over a semi-ovate spreader apron in advance of the main drive and pincher belt. Upper and lower spreader belts diverging at equal angles with respect to the main drive belt and pincher belt extend along each side of the front portion of the machine and provide a pressure nip in substantially the same vertical plane as the pressure nip between the pincher belt and main drive belt.
