  • Patent number: 10793821
Abstract: The invention provides a technology for promptly determining bacterial identification or an antimicrobial susceptibility testing. In the invention, first, a state where the bacteria are divided is monitored by performing microscopic observation with respect to the shape or the number of bacteria in each of wells of a culture plate for bacterial identification culture or the antimicrobial susceptibility testing. In addition, the shape, the number or the area of the bacteria are interpreted from the image obtained by the microscopic observation whether or not the bacteria proliferate at a stage from an induction phase to a logarithmic phase, and the time-dependent changes thereof are made into a graph. From the graph, it is determined whether or not the bacteria proliferate for each measurement, the determination results are displayed on the screen, and accordingly, the result of the antimicrobial susceptibility is provided every time when the measurement is performed (FIG. 12).

  • Patent number: 10787634
Abstract: Equipment for fermentation of beverages, particularly kombucha, that limits alcohol production during fermentation, increases throughput by reducing fermentation times, and utilizes production plant floorspace efficiently. Unlike traditional fermentation equipment that uses large, often cylindrical, vats, embodiments of the invention use vertical stacks of relatively shallow fermentation trays. The shallow trays increase the ratio of surface area to liquid volume, thereby improving oxygen flow to the fermenting liquid; increased oxygen flow reduces alcohol production for kombucha and reduces fermentation time. Air gaps between trays in the vertical stack, and headspace between the top of the fermenting liquid and the tray top edges, are optimized to promote oxygen flow. Fermentation trays are stacked vertically to maintain high production capacity with limited facility floorspace.

Abstract: Inserts for the wells of tissue culture plates are provided. When placed in a tissue culture well, a bottom surface of a shaft portion of an insert contacts a bottom surface of the well and blocks the growth of cells in that area. The blocked area mimics a “wound” in the layer of cells that grows around it. A cover portion of the insert comprises open channels through which cells, media, etc. can be delivered and gases exchanged while the insert is in place. Once the insert is removed, cell culture with the artificial “wound” is used to test the efficacy of agents with respect to their ability to facilitate cell growth into and closure of the “wound”.
