Abstract: A disk-like insulating cover for attachment to the top of opened metal beverage cans, providing selectable closure and retention of carbonation. A single drinking spout in the cover allows egress of beverage when aligned with the can opening; rotation of the cover to a misaligned position prevents spillage.

Abstract: A tamper-evident child-resistant screw cap for a bottle has an internally threaded closure portion and a depending cylindrical skirt portion having a pair of diametrically spaced arc segments, frangibly attached to the skirt and flexurally attached to the open end of the closure portion. The arc segments have downward-facing ratchet dogs engaged with upward-facing ratchet teeth on the bottle neck. Each arc segment has an upstanding rigid lever which may be inwardly depressed to disengage the ratchet dogs from the ratchet teeth of the bottle neck, permitting first removal of the cap only after breaking the frangible attachments and depressing the levers while unscrewing the cap; thereafter permitting removal only by depressing the levers while unscrewing the cap, or by breaking off the levers and arc segments at their flexural attachments, thereby converting the cap to a non child-resistant configuration.

Abstract: A tensioning device for a sliding gate on the nozzle of a metallurgical vessel includes for the spring mounting of the tensioning device between a gate housing and a housing cover by means of clamping units that connect such two members and that are hinged, to the housing and cross under housing cover 30 bending springs as hinging shafts for clamping units. This results in a simple construction of the tensioning device due to the two modes of operation of the bending springs.

Abstract: A container and safety closure therefor includes a hollow container having an externally threaded tubular neck defining a tubular opening into the container. An outer surface area of the container extending outwardly from and adjacent to the neck or portion of the neck or stepped portion thereof or an attached ring has a plurality of recesses extending inwardly. An internal threaded closure adapted to screw on to and off the threaded neck is provided with a web formed integral with a lower edge of the closure and extends outwardly from one side thereof adjacent to the neck. A tab extends upwardly from the web. A pawl formed integrally with either an under surface of the web or in an inwardly facing vertical surface on the web or an outwardly facing surface of the tab is provided to engage the recesses in the container or neck thereof or in the ring when the closure is threadably moved downwardly on the neck. The upstanding tab extends upwardly from distal end of the web.

Abstract: A cabinet has an access cover which is slidably mounted in heavy guide tracks extending longitudinally along the cabinet, and the cover has a locking flange that overlies one end wall of the cabinet when the cover is slid closed. The flange can be tightly drawn down to prevent pry bars and the like from being inserted to force the cover open. The flange is made so that it tightly engages a portion of the end wall against which it is drawn, and a protector ledge is provided adjacent the flange edge to prevent insertion of a pry tool.

Abstract: A safety latch mechanism for use in connection with a pressure vessel of the type having a shell, a closure for removably closing an access opening defined by the shell and a locking ring rotatably supported by the shell adjacent the access opening for releasably locking the closure in access opening closed position. The mechanism features a first latch member mounted by the shell for releaseably preventing unlocking rotation of the locking ring relative to the shell and a second latch member mounted by the locking ring and responsive to movement of the first member for releasably preventing relative rotational movements of the locking ring and closure. The first member is operatively associated with a vessel exhaust valve, which tends to constrain unlatching movements of the first and second latch members, when the pressure within the vessel exceeds a safe level at which the closure may be operated without the possibility of injury to person or property.

Abstract: A refuse container having a hinged lid pivotally supported on the ends of a transverse handle of the container body. The lid is pivotally supported on the handle by two arms extending laterally from the lid and having inwardly facing sockets. Two pins extending outwardly from respective ends of the handle interfit within the sockets of the lid's arms. Proximal portions of the pins are frustoconical, and the sockets are correspondingly widened at their openings. Installation and removal of the lid are accomplished simply by flexure of the lid to increase the distance between the sockets of the lid arms. The container is well suited for use with fully automated, semi-automated, and manual refuse collection systems.

Abstract: An apparatus for safely storing one or more containers of hazardous liquids and the like. The apparatus includes a receptacle including a front wall, a rear wall, end walls and a bottom joined to one another in a liquid tight manner and having an open top; a lid movably attached to the body for movement between a closed position in which the open top of the receptacle is blocked and an open position; and lock structure coupled to the receptacle for locking the lid in the closed position, the lock structure including a first hook member and a second hook member with one of the hook members attached to the lid and with the other of the hook members attached to the receptacle, the first hook member being movable between a locked position in which the second hook member is caught by the first hook member to lock the lid in the closed position and an unlocked position.

The aid comprises a base for attachment to a vial, a top, a reminder for moving relative to the top, and a locking element for preventing relative movement between the reminder and the top in one direction and permitting relative movement in the other direction.

Abstract: A disposable lid which is detachably fastened to the upper marginal lip of a beverage can. The lid overlies the top wall of the can to prevent entry of dirt prior to use of the can.

Abstract: An easy-open lid for an all-plastic beverage can is disclosed, the easy-open feature including a removable closure plug secured in a dispensing aperture formed in the lid of the can. A pull tab is secured to the closure plug for removal of the entire plug.

Abstract: A disposable plastic lid including a depending skirt formed with stacking, sealing and snap rings, and a pull tab at the lowermost edge of the skirt. The lid is formed such that the plastic is uniaxially oriented in a first direction and the tab is located to initiate a tear in a second direction transverse to the first direction. Tearing is also facilitated by notching the pull tab at either end thereof, and by providing a surface projection interrupting the snap ring in an area immediately adjacent the pull tab.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a child-resistant box for storage of medicine and other potentially harmful products. The invention comprises a lid hingedly connected to a receptacle and two sets of finger-actuated latches positioned around the circumference of the box, retaining the lid closed upon the receptacle. The latches are positioned so that only two adult hands can span the distance between the latches and actuate all the latches simultaneously so to open the box.

Abstract: The container is of the type including two pivoting parts, such as a body 1 and a lid 2 which are joined to one another by a swivel joint and which are respectively integrally connected with a cap 3 and a pivot pin 8 constrained to interlock in order to determine a pivoting assembly held in place by an element 11 connected on top of said assembly. It is characterized in that the two pivoting parts 1 and 2 have uninterrupted contours of their outer edges 1a and 2a and in that the connected element 11 is provided with at least one internal opening 20-21 enabling the passage of arms 9 and 10 which are integrally connected with the pivot pin 8 and with the lid 2, at a substantial distance x from its outer edge 2a.

Abstract: A latching mechanism and pressure-operated safety lock for a pressure vessel such as a pressure frier, the invention comprises an interlock system which includes a safety lock and cooperating latching mechanism which prevents opening of the pressure vessel while potentially hazardous pressure levels exist within the vessel. The latching mechanism of the interlock system includes structure which facilitates the tightening of a lid of the pressure frier both before introduction of pressure into the vessel and during the existence of pressure conditions within the vessel. The lid is tightened over the pressure frier by means of a slotted sleeve disposed on the latching mechanism which cooperates with a pin of the safety lock to allow rotation of the latching mechanism to tighten the lid while maintaining positive engagement of the safety lock to prevent opening of the pressure vessel.

Abstract: A cooler curtain for maintaining an air barrier between the opening of a storage facility and the surrounding atmosphere. A plurality of closely spaced, resilient self-closing curtain elements are relatively movable between a closed position in which the elements of a pair thereof are closely adjacent and combinatively define an air barrier to impede air movement through a portion of the opening, and an open position in which the elements in the pair are spaced further apart to provide access therebetween to the storage unit through the opening. A drop-in removable insert frame structure is suspended over the horizontal, top opening of the storage facility to position the curtain elements over the front opening and top opening forming the air barrier. The plurality of self-closing curtain elements extend horizontally between the side rails of the frame over the top opening, and depend generally vertically from the front rail of the frame over the front opening.

Abstract: A tamper evidencing covering for containers, comprising a hollow container cover and a frangible ring shaped to fit about the cover. The cover includes an external annular retention recess for accommodating the frangible ring, and an annular internal locking bead for affixing the cover to a container. The bead may be segmented, or one or more vertical slots may be provided in the retention recess to relieve the gripping strength of the cover when on a container.

Abstract: There is disclosed a food container from which bulk food or candy is adapted to be disbursed, in which the opening in the container is closed by a hinged cover that includes an integrally molded hinge pin adapted to be seated in an upwardly open groove in the container and in which it is secured by a plastic clip that is adapted to be snapped in place and comprises a first leg that extends through a slot in the cover over the hinge pin and a second leg opposed to the first leg and extending through the access opening into the container, together with a rounded end portion that encircles the hinge area. For assembling, the first leg of the spring clip has a free end that extends over a channel in the top wall of the container so that the hinge pin can be inserted under the free end and drawn forward to deflect the first leg of the clip until the hinge pin falls into the groove.

Abstract: Sealable containers are disclosed which include a plastic base with an annular rim, a plastic lid with an annular U-shaped outer periphery for application to the annular rim on the plastic base, and a U-shaped annular metallic clamping strip with a corresponding configuration to the outer periphery of the lid, so that when applied to the closed container and crimped on either side of the annular rim, the container is effectively sealed form the atmosphere.

Abstract: A hinge assembly for an articulated, multi-component closure for a dispensing container. The closure includes a generally cylindrical sleeve embracing a neck of the container and secured in place. The sleeve is bridged by a transversely-extending top wall formed with a through port for dispensing the contents of the container. A cap of the closure, which is hingedly mounted on the body of the closure, carries a downwardly-projecting plug for entry into to seal the dispensing port. The hinge assembly intercouples the body of the closure or the sleeve with the lid or cap and includes cap-carried hinge shaft elements seated in cooperating slots or openings formed in the sleeve body and defining a pivot axis extending in a plane paralleling the top wall of the sleeve but displaced downwardly therefrom.
