  • Patent number: 4796778
Abstract: In a locking mechanism, in particular, for fixing filter holders on sterilizing containers, with a housing in which a locking member is displaceable between two end positions, namely a first end position in which it engages behind a locking projection, and a second end position in which it releases the locking projection, with a spring means which biases the locking member in the direction towards the first end position, and with an actuating member protruding from the housing for displacement of the locking member, in order to ensure that unlocking does not occur if the actuating member is unintentionally actuated, it is suggested that a second actuating member be provided and that the actuating members be arranged on the housing on opposite sides thereof and be actuatable by displacement in the direction towards the respective other actuating member, the locking mechanism only being unlockable if both actuating members are actuated.

  • Patent number: 4796772
Abstract: A metal closure for beverage containers of the type having a center panel, a center-panel ring, an inner leg, and a pull-tab opener, includes circumferential variegations for increasing the buckling pressure of the container. The circumferential variegations are cold-worked or coined into the center-panel ring and/or into portions of the closure that are adjacent to the center-panel ring. The circumferential variegations include coined surfaces with variegated lengths, variegated coin angles, variegated coin residuals, variegated spaces between coined surfaces, or variegated widths of the center panel. The circumferential variegations achieve non-axisymmetric doming of the metal closure and increase the buckling pressure of the closure by obviating excess metal in the center panel that typically results from scorning the center panel for the easy open end.

  • Patent number: 4796774
Abstract: A resealable cover for snap-fitting on a container comprising the combination of a resilient disk member with a downwardly extending lip integrally formed on the circumference thereof, and a spout integrally formed on an upper surface thereof said spout extending beyond the circumferential surface of the container when the cover is snap-fit thereon, and a spout cover pivotally mounted to the spout and sealable therewith. By snap-fitting the sealable cover to the top of an open container, for example, a beverage container, a sanitary means is formed for drinking therefrom. Alternatively, the spout may be used to pour the contents of the container. The container may then be resealed by sealing the spout cover to the spout to prevent, for example, escape of carbonation from the beverage contained in the container.

  • Patent number: 4795044
Abstract: A tamper evident closure with a snap-type hinge cap comprising a first part adapted to interengage with the open neck of a container and a second part forming a cap connected to the first part by an integral hinge. A first tamper indicating device is provided between the first part and the neck of the container. The first part includes a dispensing spout that is adapted to be closed by a portion of the second part. A second tamper evident strip in the form of a locking ring is connected by an integral hinge to one of the two parts and is adapted to be interposed between the two parts when the closure is closed with a portion extending beyond the periphery of the closure providing evidence that the closure has not been tampered with. In order to open the closure, the tamper evident strip must be torn away so that the second part can be opened. Tampering of the integral hinge of the two parts also provides an indication of tampering.

  • Patent number: 4790448
Abstract: A container and lid assembly including a container having a cylindrical side wall and top rim, and a lid having an inverted U-shaped rim and depending skirt portion which is snapped over the rim of the container wall to form a sealing closure therewith. An annular ridge projects inwardly from the inner surface of the skirt portion so as to ride over and engage under the upper bead of the container wall, thereby creating single point interference fits between the container and lid. The outer edge of a first shoulder engages a score line on the inner surface of the skirt portion defining a bi-directional tear strip. The distal end of the tear strip closely confronts a second shoulder when the container is originally sealed. The inside wall of the lid prevents the container from being deformed or collapsing when opened.

  • Patent number: 4790449
Abstract: In a filler neck cap including a screw body and a cap, the cap comprises two members of a cover portion and an annular thin latching member so as to enable different materials, each of which exercise optimumly functions necessary to the respective members. In one example with respect to a combination of preferred materials, the cover portion of the cap and the screw body may be formed from polyacetal resin, but the annular thin latching member interposed therebetween may be formed from polyamide resin; the safety plastic filler neck cap may be manufactured from the combination of these synthetic resins, which is designed to be capable of controlling the screwing torque and of stabilizing the cap dislodgement. According to the present invention, there can be provided the comfortably operable filler neck cap increasing the dimensional stability of the cap and eliminating the grating noise during the cap opening-closing operations.

  • Patent number: 4790442
Abstract: A child resistant dispensing closure molded with polypropylene or other suitable plastic material having a base cap with a dispensing orifice in its top and a lid hinged to the cap for closing the orifice. The lid has a low profile with its skirt conforming with the cap skirt in its closed position so that the lid cannot be grasped at a random position with sufficient force to open the lid. An arcuate slot of at least 180.degree. in the lid top permits squeezing pressure to be applied to the lid skirt at two diametrically opposed points to effect displacement of a portion of the lid providing access to the bottom of the lid for swinging the lid open.

  • Patent number: 4790444
Abstract: A cup-like container, doubling as a sealing cap is disclosed for application to cans for soft drinks and the like. The cup-cap combination consists of a cup element rotatably mounted, directly of indirectly, on the rim of the can's lid and having a base aperture that can be positioned in juxtaposition with the opening in the lid, so as to allow the pouring of the contents, or away from said opening, so as to seal the can and prevent the spillage of the liquid. The cup element, thus, permits the consumption of the contents without resting one's lips on the rim of the can and allows the preservation of the contents, once the can has been opened.

  • Patent number: 4789076
Abstract: The rim of a pail body is provided with a compound curl for reception of a lid. The compound curl comprises an upper region extending away from the wall of the pail body on its outside, a lower region extending from the outer periphery of the said upper region towards the wall of the pail body and a rim edge part which extends from the inner periphery of the said lower region away from the wall of the pail body and is intermediate the said upper and lower regions whereby a lid applied over the rim with the central part thereof located within said rim can be clamped onto the said compound curl to form a seam therewith. The said lower region and the said rim edge part constitute a smaller pre-curl within the compound curl, the rim edge being spaced below the said upper region so that in clamping on the lid, a region of the said rim edge part is brought into supporting engagement with the said upper region.

  • Patent number: 4789077
Abstract: Closure apparatus for a high pressure vessel includes a closure member having a hemispherically concave interior and a stepped cylindrical exterior portion. The stepped cylindrical exterior portion is adapted to complement the cross-sectional shape of flanged sector blocks so that the sector blocks are lockingly engaged in a circumferential groove in an access opening of the high pressure vessel when the closure member is installed, thereby eliminating any requirement for a wedge ring support for the blocks. The present closure apparatus may be retrofitted into high pressure vessels already equipped with a much heavier flat plate closure. The present closure apparatus may be of the partial access type, an elliptical manway being provided in the closure member. Access through the manway allows periodic maintenance of the vessel interior without having to remove the heavy closure member.

  • Patent number: 4787529
Abstract: A fuel cap for use in a vehicle fuel system filler neck is provided. The fuel cap includes a closure for closing the filler neck and a pressure relief valve that is movable between a filler neck-venting position and a non-venting position. A roll-over control assembly is provided for selectively utilizing liquid fuel and fuel vapor in the filler neck to exert a closing force on the pressure relief valve so that the pressure relief valve is moved to its non-venting position to block discharge of liquid fuel to the atmosphere through the pressure relief valve during vehicle rollover. The roll-over control assembly cooperates with the pressure relief valve to define a venting control chamber for containing fuel and a fuel vapor in a predetermined region to permit the fuel and fuel vapor to exert the closing force on the pressure relief valve. A passageway is provided for establishing communication of fuel and fuel vapor in the filler neck with the venting control chamber.
