Patent number: 4128232Abstract: An open topped, refractory lined metallurgical converter vessel has a metallic shell. A cooling jacket is affixed to the frusto-conical nose portion of the shell and comprises a plurality of right angle members affixed to the shell in a side-by-side relation and extending generally in the axial direction. The members have their edges respectively affixed to the shell surface and to the side of the next adjacent member such that one leg of each member is perpendicular and the other is parallel to the vessel surface. An opening is formed in the perpendicular leg of each angle member with the opening in adjacent members located at opposite ends to define a serpentine water flow path therethrough. Plate sections are affixed to the upper end of the angle members and to the shell to define a nose cooling ring and return flow path for cooling water. Further arcuate plate sections which at least partially surround the vessel at the lower ends of the angle members define water inlet and return flow paths.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1977Date of Patent: December 5, 1978Assignee: Pennsylvania Engineering CorporationInventor: Rashed N. Patent number: 4127152Abstract: An articulated boom assembly is mounted on a vehicle for swinging movement about a vertical axis. A shear-grapple unit is pivotally attached to the free end of the boom assembly so that after a standing tree has been cut, it may be tilted from a vertical position to a horizontal position. When the cut tree is positioned horizontally above the vehicle, it can be lowered into a stationary delimbing head and also at the same time to a clamping mechanism that travels longitudinally of the vehicle for the purpose of feeding the tree toward a shear mechanism, the delimbing of the tree taking place as this is done. When advanced to a predetermined distance beyond the shear mechanism, the shear mechanism is actuated to sever the first bolt which drops onto an inclined annular plate that has a U-shaped yoke projecting upwardly through its central opening. When the yoke is rotated through 90.degree., a spring yields under the weight of the bolt so that the bolt is free to roll into a collector.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1971Date of Patent: November 28, 1978Assignee: FMC of Canada, Ltd.Inventors: Robert W.
