  • Patent number: 4115914
Abstract: A non-volatile semiconductor storage device comprising a dual gate field effect transistor in which an electrically floating gate acts as a charge storage medium. An insulating layer of an appropriate dielectric material separates the floating gate from the active portion of the transistor. A predetermined section of this insulating layer is relatively thin to permit this section of the floating gate to be relatively close to a corresponding predetermined section of the transistor, thus facilitating the transfer of charges between the transistor substrate and the gate. When charges reach the floating gate either through tunneling or avalanche injection, they are entrapped and stored there, thus providing memory in the structure. That is, the electric field induced by these charges is maintained in the transistor even after the field inducing force is removed. Erasing is achieved by removing the charges from the floating gate by reverse tunneling through the relatively thinner insulator region.

  • Patent number: 4116315
Abstract: A pneumatic landing gear actuator is provided for use with an extendible and retractable landing gear assembly having an input member the rotation of which extends or retracts the landing gear foot in dependence upon the direction of rotation. The landing gear actuator includes a shaft which is drivingly connected to at least one, and preferably two, rotatable input members on two spaced landing gear assemblies. A pair of one-way clutches, each having a drive and driven member, are disposed coaxially around the shaft while a shifting gear selectively drivingly connects the driven member of one clutch or the other to the shaft. A pneumatic air cylinder can be connected to the air system of the tractor to simultaneously reciprocally rotatably drive both clutch drive members via a radial arm. Such compressed air systems are utilized for the air brakes in tractor-trailer combinations so it is readily available on most tractors for use with the present invention.

  • Patent number: 4116517
Abstract: A flexible printed circuit is electrically connected to a printed circuit board or the like without the use of intermediate conducting contact elements. The flexible printed circuit has conductive strips thereon each terminating in a conductive pad. The pads and the areas of the insulation sheet of the circuit underlying the pads are deformed to provide contact projections defining cavities therebelow. A backing layer of elastomeric material underlying the insulation sheet embodies points which extend into the cavities. The flexible printed circuit is clamped against the printed circuit board causing the elastomeric layer to be compressed so that the points fill the contact cavities to produce a high-force localized contact between the contact projections and the traces on the printed circuit board. A multi-layer, flexible printed circuit arrangement is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4116421
Abstract: A method of closing phosphorus furnace tapholes which comprises applying pneumatic pressure at the taphole opening to force molten material in the boretube back into the furnace and then introducing sand particles through the taphole to meet and effect solidification of incoming molten furnace material thereby sealing off the inner opening of the boretube and filling the remainder of the boretube with sand. Tapping is readily accomplished by blowing out the loose sand and breaking the inner seal of solidified furnace material.

  • Patent number: 4111405
Abstract: Two elongated sealing members are provided to prevent escape of gases from between a movable wall member and an abutting wall member of a metallurgical vessel enclosure. A first elongated sealing member is mounted on the first of the wall members and has a compressible material facing the second of the wall members. A second elongated sealing member is mounted on the second of the wall members and has a blade facing the elongated receiving member.
