  • Patent number: 4844488
Abstract: A keyless chuck operating system comprises a hollow, generally cylindrical body formed of rubber or other similar substance preferably having a shore hardness in the range of 50 to 60. The body has a central cavity therein formed to fit firmly over a chuck locking drum. Tightening the jaws is accomplished by adjusting the drill for ordinary drilling with a right handed bit, firmly grasping the outer periphery of the chuck operating device, and then turning on the drill. Loosening the chuck jaws is done in a manner similar to tightening them except that the drill is adjusted to reverse the direction of rotation. The chuck actuation may include a plurality of gripping beads in the passage that receives the chuck body for gripping the chuck when the rotary tool is actuated. The outer periphery of the chuck operating device preferably has a plurality of indentations thereon to facilitate manual gripping of the device.

  • Patent number: 4844669
Abstract: An insert boring tool includes a tool body and a cutting insert releasably mounted thereon. The insert includes a plate defined by front and rear surfaces and a plurality of side faces and having a plurality of corners where adjacent side faces intersect one another. At least one of the corners is removed to provide a corner face. A first cutting edge is defined by the front surface and one of the side faces adjacent to the corner face, and a straight second cutting edge is defined by the front surface and the corner side face. The first and second cutting edges intersect each other at an obtuse angle, and are indexed in an end cutting position. The front surface has a marginal portion extending along the second cutting edge and inclined in such a manner that a thickness of the plate between the marginal portion and the rear surface is progressively reduced toward the second cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 4838742
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of and apparatus for making an undercut in a drilled hole in a fixed base, such as concrete, masonry or the like. The shank of a milling cutter is supported and held eccentrically in the drill hole by means of a supporting sleeve which can be extended into the drill hole when the milling cutter is running. The supporting sleeve has an outside diameter slightly less than the diameter of the cylindrical drill hole so as to fit therein, and is formed with a receptacle groove extending longitudinally of the sleeve and opening at the periphery of the sleeve. The shank of the milling cutter is positioned in the groove, the axis of which is parallel to but radially outwardly spaced from the coaxial axes of the drill hole and sleeve. Rotation of the sleeve can be by a hand wheel interconnected to the sleeve, with the milling cutter rotating with the sleeve to form the undercut.

  • Patent number: 4836789
Abstract: A pair of track members is fastened to a framework of a black box forwardly of each mother board connector of an array thereof mounted on the mother board of the black box. The track members extend forwardly in parallel from end flanges of the connector to leading ends fastened to the black box framework at the LRM-receiving aperture, so that an LRM placed between the pair of tracks is movable to the mother board connector for mating of the LRM connector therewith. The trailing ends of the track members extend through precisely located holes through end flanges of the mother board connector and through the mother board after which the end portions are fastened to frame members behind the mother board. The track members can be hollow enabling fluid to be circulated therethrough to dissipate heat from the LRM. The track members can constitute the means to fasten the mother board connector to the mother board, and also the mother board to the framework of the black box.

  • Patent number: 4832542
Abstract: Clutching device particularly adapted for use in tapping attachments. The clutch is of the type having axial aligned driving and driven elements. The invention is illustrated in a reversible tapping attachment. In a preferred form the driving element is in the form of a sleeve having axial splines. The driven element has axial grooves. A ball retainer with angularly spaced balls provides for drive between the drive element and the driven element, the balls being engageable with the axial splines and with the axial grooves in the driven element. The improvement resides in that the axial grooves are not of the same width as the diameter of the balls but are of a width greater than the diameter of the balls, the width being preferably twice the diameter of the balls. Improved operation is realized in clutching and declutching and in the transfer through a neutral zone from direct drive to reverse drive. In the preferred embodiment the tapping attachment is of the free-axial float type.
