  • Patent number: 4817971
Abstract: A keyless chuck operating device comprises a hollow, generally cylindrical body formed of rubber or other similar substance preferably having a shore hardness in the range of 50 to 60. The body has a central cavity therein formed to fit firmly over a chuck locking drum. Tightening the jaws is accomplished by adjusting the drill for ordinary drilling with a right handed bit, firmly grasping the outer periphery of the chuck operating device, and then turning on the drill. Loosening the chuck jaws is done in a manner similar to tightening them except that the drill is adjusted to reverse the direction of rotation. The chuck actuation may include a plurality of gripping beads in the passage that receives the chuck body for gripping the chuck when the rotary tool is actuated. The outer periphery of the chuck operating device preferably has a plurality of indentations thereon to facilitate manual gripping of the device.

  • Patent number: 4818156
Abstract: A drill for performing a roughing cut in a workpiece as the drill is advanced, and performing a finishing cut as the drill is retracted. A blade carrier is mounted eccentrically on the drill to be movable between first and second positions. In the first position, the blade is located for a roughing cut. In the second position, the blade is shifted radially for a finishing cut. A spring biases the carrier toward the second position and yields when the carrier moves to the first position. The spring bias is too weak to overcome reaction forces acting on the blade during a roughing cut, wherein the roughing cut reaction forces cause the carrier to be shifted to the first (roughing cut) position. The spring bias is strong enough to overcome the weaker reaction forces occurring during a finishing cut, so that the carrier is automatically shifted to the second (finishing cut) position when the drill is withdrawn through the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4817267
Abstract: A tool change apparatus for a machining center and the like comprises a spindle head vertically slidably mounted on a column, and a spindle rotatably mounted in the spindle head. The spindle has at the lower end thereof a tapered tool reception bore in which a tool is releasably held. When a draw bar is shifted upwards, resilient clamper arms are forced to enter a reduced bore to be contracted thereby so that a head of the tool is clamped. When the draw bar is shifted downwards, engageable end portions are moved into an enlarged recess-like portion whereby the clamper arms are allowed to expand outwards to release the head of the tool. Even when the head is released, a stop pin urged by a spring continues to engage the head of the tool whereby the tool is still held by the spindle.Tools are held by a series of magazine pots. Each pot is indexed to a tool change station.

  • Patent number: 4815991
Abstract: A device for making electrical connection in which the device can serve either as a clip or a plug. The device includes a pair of pivotally interconnected jaws which can open and be clipped onto a wire or electrical terminal, the jaws being biased toward each other. In one embodiment, each jaw is provided near its outer surface with an electrically conductive member defined by one or more resilient electrical contact elements which extend longitudinally of the corresponding jaw. The elements of each member are integral with a pair of semi-circular bands which are secured in any suitable manner, such as by soldering or spot welding, to the outer surface of the respective jaw. When the jaws are closed, the members mate with each other at the side edges to form a banana plug which can be inserted into a jack or other tubular recess. In another embodiment, the jaws have integral contact elements thereon which define a banana plug configuration when the jaws are closed.

  • Patent number: 4815979
Abstract: An improved connector for attaching a mother board to a daughter board, having a slotted housing, a slotted elastomeric member, and a flexible circuit with numerous conductors. The flexible circuit is wrapped around the elastomeric member with its two free ends ending at the slot of the elastomeric member. The wrapped elastomeric member is located in a chamber in the housing with the slot in the housing communicating with the slot in the elastomeric member so that when the daughter board is inserted into the housing, it engages the free ends of the flexible circuit within the slot of the elastomeric member. The elastomeric member has two semi-cylindrical portions which are separated by a channel at the bottom thereof. The elastomeric member with these semi-cylindrical portions is slightly larger than the chamber of the housing when mounted by fasteners to the mother board.
