  • Patent number: 5147988
Abstract: A switching electrical receptacle includes a fixed set of female contacts mounted to be connected to electric power lines. A housing supports a plurality of sliding contacts of substantially cylindrical symmetry disposed parallel to an axis. The housing can be slid axially into and out of electrical contact with the female contacts to make or break a circuit. The sliding contacts are in permanent sliding contact with another set of female contacts that are connected to load terminals that are adapted to receive an electric plug. Each sliding contact is split along its axis and is spring-loaded from within to exert radial forces that assure good electrical connections between the sliding contact and each set of female contacts. Seals are readily installed in the housing to make the receptacle explosion-proof and also appropriate for outdoor use.

  • Patent number: 5143208
Abstract: An apparatus for sensing the horizontal level of a table or other surface and returning that table or other surface back to level. The apparatus includes a housing within which first and second mercury switches are positioned relative to each other in a manner which permits the electrical contacts of each switch to be positioned on opposite ends of the housing. Two spring clips are provided for securing the first and second mercury switches within the housing. A pivot rod is provided to permit each mercury switch and spring clip assembly to pivot about a transverse axis within the housing. An adjusting screw and stablizing spring pair are positioned adjacent to each of the two mercury switch and spring clip assemblies. The adjusting screws may be turned to set the position of the mercury switch about the axis of the pivot rod relative to the horizontal plane in order to set a dead band wherein neither of the two mercury switches is closed.

  • Patent number: 5140115
Abstract: The open and closed conditions of the contacts within industrial-rated circuit breakers is externally ascertained by means of an auxiliary switch-contact position verifier accessory. A viewing aperture in the circuit breaker accessory cover provides visual access to a color-coded shutter that forms part of the auxiliary switch accessory and operates off the circuit breaker crossbar assembly. In the event that the circuit breaker contacts remain closed when the circuit breaker operating handle is moved to the OFF position, the colored indicia verifies the actual condition of the circuit breaker contacts.

  • Patent number: 5130506
Abstract: Pivotal movement of a switch actuator drives a finger projecting from the actuator against a convexly bowed leaf spring, depressing an intermediate portion of the leaf spring to an unstable concave condition. The leaf spring resists the actuator movement, initially with an increasing force but changing to a decreasing force at a predictable point in actuator movement to provide tactile feedback at an operator affixed to the actuator. The leaf spring is a flat beam. The spring force and point of changeover can be readily and predictably varied during manufacture by selecting springs having different widths, thicknesses or other variable parameters. A modular block holds the spring in the bowed condition and is positioned relative to the actuator finger by a support plate. The actuator finger drives the spring against a conductive rubber block, compressing the block against spaced conductors on a printed circuit to complete the circuit.

  • Patent number: 5124513
Abstract: A heat shrinkable tube-like extension for toggle switch operators. In its preferred embodiment is comprises a length of heat shrink tubing with one end coated with a bondable plastic material. The one end is heated and comprised to form a beaver tail end thereafter the open end is inserted over the end of the handle of a toggle switch. Heat is applied to the end over the handle to shrink it into engagement with the handle. In an alternate embodiment, a flat insert is placed in the open end before heat shrinking. It is then heated to flatten the outer end. The extenders may be color coded and also may include printed or hand lettered switch identification on the extension portion.
