Abstract: An image forming apparatus for authenticating a portable terminal by near field wireless communication with the portable terminal includes an image forming portion configured to form an image on a sheet, and an operating portion configured to receive an operation by an operator. The operating portion includes a display panel capable of displaying information on image formation in response to authentication of the portable terminal and includes therein an antenna for establishing the near field wireless communication with the portable terminal. The display panel is capable of displaying a guide screen for guiding an operator so as to hold the portable terminal over the display panel.

Abstract: A method for evaluating a print quality of a printed document that is printed by a printer is provided. The printer comprises a pre-print image scanner, a post-print image scanner, and a printhead disposed between the pre-print image scanner and the post-print image scanner. The method comprises generating a pre-printing image of a print media, generating the printed document, generating a post-printing image of the printed document, generating a validation image by comparing the post-printing image with the pre-printing image, and comparing the validation image with the source image.

Abstract: Embodiments facilitate the management of security certificates for printers that are used in public locales. The system communicates with and manages the printers with the benefits of security certificate protocols on-demand as a user requests to print documents with any particular printer. Once a document is requested to be printed at a printer, the system registers the printer with the network. At registration, a gateway is automatically installed. the gateway requests a security certificate which is stored on the printer or its associated computer. Aspects thus solve an online service's need to install and manage certificates for any printer accessible to the network.
