  • Patent number: 4285619
Abstract: When machining surfaces of workpieces, which are not directly accessible for the working tool, for instance due to projecting flanges or inclined wall surfaces, a back-working tool is used, comprising a rotatable spindle carrying a cutter means. The workpiece is located upon a table with its accessible face turned downwards, the driving component of the machine is located below the table, and the spindle is made to extend through an opening in the working table and a passage in the workpiece, to present the cutter means at the, normally, non-accessible face of the workpiece. During operation the cutter means is brought to exert a downwardly directed pressure upon the workpiece, which is transferred to, and taken up by the working table.

  • Patent number: 4283819
Abstract: A segment-shaped blade is provided for use in a rotatable cylindrical tool for machining elastic material, particularly pneumatic rubber tires for vehicles. The blade comprises teeth defined at the convex periphery by approximately V-shaped or circular or oval cuts. Said teeth include one or more triangular teeth and one or more trapezoidal teeth, which precede said triangular teeth in the direction of rotation of the tool and have prongs that are directed toward each other and are bent to different sides out of the plane of the blade. The triangular tooth or teeth are divided by one or more radial cuts into two or more triangular teeth, the prongs of which are bent to different sides out of the plane of the blade. The trapezoidal teeth have preferably legs of equal length. The two prongs of a trapezoidal tooth which are directed toward each other are defined in known manner by a punched circular hole, which is symmetrical to the periphery of the tooth.

  • Patent number: 4283163
Abstract: To provide for positive guidance of a bolt formed with a conical enlarged intermediate portion holding a cutter bit by resilient deflection of the bolt in an enlarged recess portion of the cutter bit, the enlarged recess portion is formed as an elongated portion adjacent a bore in which the bolt is threaded, the elongated opening being additionally formed with conical surfaces concentric with the bore so that, prior to resilient deflection of the bolt, the bolt is positively guided and, thereafter, the elongated opening permits deflection of the bolt, the length axis of the elongated enlarged portion being directed towards an abutment surface on the tool body to securely clamp the bit against the abutment surface and determine the direction of resilient deflection of the bolt.

  • Patent number: 4281949
Abstract: Abstract disclosed herein is a combination depth gauge and level for a drill characterized in that a plunger mechanism is attached to the drill by means of a band type clamp. Overlying the plunger, there is provided a ruler capable of sliding within the trackway to extend out beyond the drill and bit so that the depth of a hole to be drilled can be accurately gauged. The plunger mechanism includes a casing having a spring disposed therein and the plunger is biased against the spring and has a terminal portion preferably in the shape of a cross. In use and operation, the plunger is depressed against the surface upon which the drilling is to be done, and therefor the correct angle of the drilled hole can be assured. Once the plunger has been depressed up to the length of the ruler as it has been extended beyond the drill, the depth of the hole thus drilled can be accurately determined and controlled.

  • Patent number: 4280773
Abstract: A screw type shaving cutter and a method of producing the same. A large number of cutting edges are formed on the flanks of the thread of the cutter. Each cutting edge is inclined along a curve or a straight line in the trailing direction as viewed in the direction of rotation of the cutter in use. This shaving cutter is produced by forming a screw body by cutting a metal blank into a form of a screw, and forming a number of cutting edges on the flanks of the thread of the screw body by reciprocatingly moving a cutting tool on the flanks of the thread, while rotating the screw body continuously in one direction.
