  • Patent number: 4271733
Abstract: A rotary tool for working in a cramped and possibly hostile environment. The tool can be clamped into position and left to work automatically. The tool has a resiliently biased pin and a ratchet driven cam for ensuring that the working unit cannot become overloaded. Working cannot go beyond a preselected level owing to the action of the ratchet driven cam which is only stepped to a certain level on a flange which strikes a lever when that level is reached. The work done can be cutting, welding preparation or trepanning.

  • Patent number: 4271735
Abstract: A tool holder has a socket to receive the shank of a tool, a transverse bore breaking into the socket, and a tool retaining device for insertion in the transverse bore comprising a rigid retaining pin bonded to a resilient member which urges the retaining member sideways so that part of the retaining pin projects into the socket to engage the shank of a tool inserted therein. An elongate element is bonded to the resilient element and includes, at opposite ends thereof, stop members which overlie surfaces of the tool holder surrounding the ends of the bore, and thereby prevent longitudinal movement of the retaining device in the transverse bore. The stop members may be moved, by deformation of the resilient member, to a release position where they lie within the cross-section of the transverse bore, so that the retaining device may be inserted into, or withdrawn from, the bore.

  • Patent number: 4265574
Abstract: A combined boring and milling tool has at least three triangularly shaped turnable cutter blades. The effective cutting edge of the first turnable cutter blade extends as bit (or drilling cutting edge) from the periphery of the shank at least to its axis. A second turnable cutter blade is offset 180.degree. peripherally from the first and its effective cutting edge extends as cutting edge on the periphery of the shank parallel to the shank axis. A third turnable cutter blade is offset axially from the first so that its effective cutting edge extends as a cutting edge parallel to the shank axis. The two effective cutting edges of the second and third turnable cutter blades lie on the same flight circle and their working ranges overlap axially. The first and third turnable cutter blades have a common chip space.

  • Patent number: 4265460
Abstract: A tool holder has a bore adapted to receive therein a tool having locking flat surfaces on the shank thereof, and a peripheral wall defining the bore; tangential holes running across the peripheral wall and having an aperture open to the bore; and locking cotters each having an inclined surface and disposed in each tangential hole movably in the axial direction thereof. Displacement of each locking cotter towards the mid portion of the tangential hole causes the inclined surface to press against the flat surface of the shank due to the wedge effect, thereby locking the shank to the peripheral wall. Increasing torque, which acts on the shank, moves the locking cotter in the axial direction to a further extent, thus providing an increased wedge effect, whereby a greatly increased shank retaining force is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4263704
Abstract: An adjustable file handle for files is disclosed. The adjustable file handle comprises a first means which engages the sides of the file substantially adjacent its forward end and above the surface of the teeth of the file which will be in contact with a workpiece. Included with the first means is a hand gripping means for applying pressure to the forward end of the file against the workpiece in a downwardly and outwardly direction. A third means is provided which engages the sides of the tine of the file substantially adjacent the end of the tine and also above the bottom surface of the tine so that contact with a workpiece is avoided. Secured to the third means is a handle means for applying pressure to the tine end of the file against the workpiece in a downwardly and outwardly direction.

  • Patent number: 4261235
Abstract: The cutter head for the traced rough turning of rod-like workpieces includes a rotary base ring provided with a plurality of radial guideways. A supporting member in the form of a slide carriage movable on the radial guideways supports an elongated blade holder which is pivotable about a hinge point laterally offset from the guideways. The free end of each blade holder carries an inserted blade and is spring biased against the workpiece at the center of the base ring by a set of biasing springs supported on the slide carriage. A tracer pin adjoins the cutting blade and its vertical position is adjustable relative to the main cutting edge to determine the thickness of the cuttings. The point of contact of the cutting edge relative to the center of the hinge joint forms with a tangent line passing through the contact point an angle between 10.degree. to 25.degree..

  • Patent number: 4260302
Abstract: A machine tool for performing a plurality of operations on a workpiece, i.e. a transfer machine, has two tools which are alternatively presentable to the workpiece and which are mounted coaxially for common rotation on the front end of a spindle. The spindle is rotatably mounted in a sleeve which is mounted for axial displacement in a fixed head. The displacement of the sleeve, which may be effected by a rack and pinion, serves to feed a first one of the tools to effect its machining operation. A front portion of the sleeve projects beyond the head and carries an actuator for causing the second tool to move axially relative to the first. After machining by the first tool, operation of the acutator serves to initiate displacement of the second tool to commence its machining operation. To provide a common rotary drive for both tools, the spindle or a prolongation thereof extends rearwardly of the head and is splined to a drive pulley mounted in an axially fixed position on the rear of the head.
