Patent number: 10192585Abstract: Video and corresponding metadata is accessed. Events of interest within the video are identified based on the corresponding metadata, and best scenes are identified based on the identified events of interest. In one example, best scenes are identified based on the motion values associated with frames or portions of a frame of a video. Motion values are determined for each frame and portions of the video including frames with the most motion are identified as best scenes. Best scenes may also be identified based on the motion profile of a video. The motion profile of a video is a measure of global or local motion within frames throughout the video. For example, best scenes are identified from portion of the video including steady global motion. A video summary can be generated including one or more of the identified best scenes.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2017Date of Patent: January 29, 2019Assignee: GoPro, Inc.Inventors: Balineedu Chowdary Adsumilli, Ryan Lustig, David A. Patent number: 10154228Abstract: Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for smoothing rendering data (e.g., panning data and/or magnification data) prior to rendering a video clip. The rendering data may be recorded using a first sampling rate and the system may determine Bézier points using a second sampling rate. The Bézier points may be aligned with the rendering data and may be used to generate smoothed rendering data. The smoothed rendering data may be used to render a video clip that may be displayed to a user. If the user inputs additional rendering data during playback of the video clip, the system may generate second smoothed rendering data. For example, the system may record additional rendering data for a second half of the video clip and generate second smoothed rendering data, including a first half of the first smoothed rendering data, based on the additional rendering data.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2015Date of Patent: December 11, 2018Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Peter Van Tuyl Bentley, Mark Eugene Pearson, Robert James Hanson

Patent number: 7991270Abstract: On a BD-ROM, PlayList information is recorded. The PlayList information includes MainPath information and SubPath information. The MainPath information specifies one of a plurality of AVClips as a MainClip, and defines a primary playback section on the MainClip. The SubPath information specifies, among the rest of the AVClips, one AVClip as a SubClip, and defines, on the SubClip, a secondary playback section to be synchronized with the primary playback section. The PlayList information includes an STN_table, which indicates SubClip and, from among a plurality of elementary streams multiplexed into the SubClip, elementary streams allowed to be played back. A total data size of AVClip per unit time is, for example, less than or equal to 48 Mbits when the AVClip includes a plurality of elementary streams allowed in the STN_table to be played back and does not include elementary streams which are not allowed in the STN_table to be played back.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2006Date of Patent: August 2, 2011Assignee: Panasonic CorporationInventors: Hiroshi Yahata, Tomoyuki Okada

Patent number: 7974522Abstract: The present invention is directed towards reducing hard disk drive (HDD) activity by reducing the activity of an internal time shift buffer (TSB). The HDD may be included in a digital host communications terminal (DHCT). The TSB can switch between buffering a high definition quality to a standard definition quality of a streaming program. Additionally, the TSB can be disabled to prevent buffering of the streaming program. The reduced buffering of the TSB is determined by several factors including the temperature of the HDD, the health of the HDD, a set-up menu including TSB options, and/or whether there is a high definition television connected to the DHCT.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2006Date of Patent: July 5, 2011Inventors: Gary D.
