  • Patent number: 4854038
Abstract: The invention features a method of fabricating a printed circuit board using a modular technique. Sub-assemblies are first constructed, tested, and then subsequently incorporated into the final circuit board assembly which has a triplate geometry. • Patent number: 4854025
Abstract: A method of producing turbine rotor having a including vane wheel made of ceramics, a ceramic shaft formed integrally with the turbine wheel, and a metallic shaft bonded to the ceramic shaft. The hardness of a part of or the whole part of a compressor wheel-fitting shaft portion of the metallic shaft is made smaller than that of a portion of metallic shaft apart from the compressor wheel-fitting shaft, said portion being located on the turbine vane wheel side. Thereby, slackening between the compressor wheel and the fitting shaft is avoided.

  • Patent number: 4854041
Abstract: In a method of manufacturing a switch base according to the invention, blanked members are prepared, each having a common strip formed at a lower part thereof, a plurality of finger-shaped pieces extending from the common strip, fixed contact portions formed on distal end portions of respective ones of the finger-shaped pieces, and terminal portions situated between respective ones of the fixed contact portions and the common strip. Next, indentically shaped blanked members are superimposed in such a manner that the fixed contact portions thereof are spaced away from one another, and the blanked members are assembled together with the fixed contact portions being arrayed in a plurality of rows and the terminal portions being arrayed in a single row. Thereafter, a resin is molded between the fixed contact portions and the terminal portions to form a base, and the common strips are cut away to manufacture a switch base.

  • Patent number: 4854024
Abstract: A dual stream thin edge orifice disk is defined as a disk having a pair of orifices positioned to direct the flow of fluid from the interior portion of a valve into two different streams. The dual streams may be parallel or typically diverge at an angle for directing the stream to two adjacent engine valves in the situation wherein the valve is in electromagnetic fuel injector for an internal combustion engine. To have the dual streams flow in a direction that is not parallel, the area of the disk surrounding the dual orifices is embossed and the orifices are positioned along the sides of the embossment between the base and the apex thereof. The manufacturing of the accurately sized orifices in the disk is accomplished by means of a progressive die. One of the stations of the die provides a coining operation on the orifice. Such coining operation is adjustable by means of a micrometer adjustment.

  • Patent number: 4853060
Abstract: A method of forming a composite tubular structure, such as a drive shaft, composed of a tubular member formed of fiber reinforced resin and having metal yokes secured to the ends of the tubular member. Each yoke includes a cylindrical sleeve portion bonded in overlapping relation to the respective end of the tubular member. A plurality of longitudinally extending ribs or bosses are formed on each sleeve portion and are received in slots provided in the respective end of the tubular member. Windings of a fibrous material impregnated with a thermosetting resin can be applied over the joint between the tubular member and each sleeve portion. With this construction the torsional load is transmitted through the ribs and slots rather than through an adhesive bonded interface between the members.

  • Patent number: 4852232
Abstract: A block of electrically-conductive material which is to be formed into a body with internal and/or external surfaces that approximate hyperboloids of one sheet is placed so that its axis is set at a predetermined skew angle with relation to a travelling EDM electrode wire and the electrode wire is then moved into cutting proximity of the body. Thereafter, by revolving the body about its own axis, the external and/or internal surfaces of the body will be cut into an approximate hyperbolic surface of revolution depending upon whether the body is positioned with the cutting wire outside of the body or in a previously-formed longitudinal passage in the body. As an alternative technique, elongated channels can also be cut into the walls of the body by successively orienting the body to a selected number of angular positions with the electrode wire being either outside of the body or in a previously-formed passage in the body.

  • Patent number: 4852249
Abstract: A process and device for the length trimming of cables from a cable supply for the processing of cable ends. The cable front end is inserted by a cable feed (20, 22) in a guide channel whose rear section is located in a swivel part (28). As the cable front end impinges on a stop (102) on the swivel part (28), said swivel part swings beyond a dead center which is defined by a spring (40) which is attached eccentrically, whereafter the swivel part (8) is swung around by the spring (40) essentially 180.degree. so that the cable front end bearing on the stop (102) points opposite to the feed direction. The cable loop formed is then enlarged to the desired length by continued cable feeding, whereafter the cable rear end is severed by a knife (82). By lowering the cable, the cable ends are transferred, accurately positioned, to holders (56) by means of which they can be transported to the processing stations.

  • Patent number: 4850101
Abstract: A flexibly programmable belling and tension expanding device for plate fin heat exchanger coils is carried on a shuttle or carriage that moves between first and second work stations. An operator assembles a fin plate heat exchanger unit at a work table at one work station while the device automatically bells and expands the hairpin tubes of another unit at a second station. When assembly is complete, the operator signals a programmable controller, and the shuttle brings the device to the one coil after it completes the expanding of the other, and it commences an automatic expanding operation. Then the operator removes the expanded coil and assembles another coil at the second station while the device is belling and coiling at the one station.

  • Patent number: 4847965
Abstract: Stamped formed mufflers and a process for forming stamped formed mufflers is provided. The mufflers are stamp formed from master dies having a plurality of die subsets removably mounted therein. At least one subset may include several die inserts removably mounted therein. The subset and insert dies are selected to effect the acoustical performance of the resulting muffler. Thus, a system of mufflers may be formed having generally the same pattern of tubes therein. However, selected mufflers in the system will have portions thereof which are different from other mufflers in the system, depending upon the particular die subsets selected for mounting in the master die, and the particular die inserts selected for mounting in the subsets.

  • Patent number: 4845817
Abstract: A half-round bearing including a locating tab for establishing the positioning of the bearing shell when being mounted within a bearing housing. Generating tabs according to the prior art leave a radially outwardly projecting channel in the bearing crown surface which has been found to create slivers during finishing of the bearing shell wall thickness which can adversely influence bearing life. According to this invention, the bearing material is upset by coining in a manner such that the excess material is removed during the parting line broaching operation without causing a burr to be formed on the tab. The burr can prevent proper seating of the bearing shell in the bearing housing which reduces bearing life.
