  • Patent number: 5956847
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a fluid coupling apparatus for communicating fluid between a fluid hose and a heat exchanger. The present invention provides an inexpensive method for producing an integral fluid coupling apparatus that minimizes and eliminates the spacing and clearance required of bending tubular fluid lines and conduits. The method of the present invention utilizes a seamless welded tubing and compresses a portion of the tubing into a hollow rectangular configuration. During the pressing operation, a sphere is inserted into the tubing and aligned with an aperture previously formed in a wall of the tubing. When the tubing is compressed, the sphere is forced through the aperture provided in the tubing, and a raised lip or shoulder is extruded from the portion of the tubing defined in the aperture. A raised lip or shoulder is formed from the extrusion, and the raised lip is inserted through an aperture provided in a wall of the heat exchanger and rolled onto the wall of the heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 5950307
Abstract: A reciprocating compressor includes a cylindrical bore in which a piston reciprocates. A cylinder head is situated adjacent an end of the bore and forms a suction chamber and a discharge chamber which communicate with the bore through respective valved passages. Fluid to be compressed enters the suction chamber through an outlet section of a muffler. That outlet section is made of a material having low thermal conductivity (plastic) and fits into the suction chamber to resist the transfer of heat to the suction chamber from the discharge chamber. A capillary tube includes an inlet end submerged in an oil reservoir and an outlet end mounted in a hole formed in the outlet section of the muffler for supplying oil to fluid entering the bore.

  • Patent number: 5950309
Abstract: A method is disclosed for bonding a nozzle plate to the front nozzle face of a printhead. A bonding station includes a heated printhead holder in opposed relationship to a nozzle plate holder with a curved lower surface. A nozzle plate having a row of nozzle holes and alignment apertures are formed by laser ablation in a thin polymer film. The film is moved into the bonding station, and the nozzle plate is aligned with pins on the curved nozzle plate holder surface. Both the printhead holder and nozzle plate holder are adjustable in directions perpendicular to the nozzle array on the printhead face and also rotationally. The adjustment insures that the nozzle plate, with adhesive applied to the bottom surface, makes initial tangential contact at the center of the nozzle array, resulting in accurate alignment of the nozzle plate holes with the nozzle array in the printhead face.

  • Patent number: 5950308
Abstract: The cantilevered stator vanes of the compressor section of the gas turbine engine are treated by including a rotating hub having a by-pass passage for removing the low momentum fluid from the main air stream adjacent to the tips of the stator vanes in the compressor and returning it back into the main air stream after having treated the air while avoiding penalties and excessive heating. A plurality of vanes are circumferentially spaced in the by-pass passage for removing vortices and streamlining the flow before injected the air back into the airstream. The vane passage hub treatment is fabricated in a single cast piece in one embodiment, in a three ring configuration in another embodiment and in a segmented ring configuration in still another embodiment.
