Abstract: Lubricating oil compositions having improved corrosion inhibition are disclosed. The lubricating oil compositions comprise (a) a major amount of a base lubricating oil, (b) alkenyl succinimide dispersant, and (c) corrosion inhibiting amount of certain specific acidic derivatives of benzene (e.g. 2-amino-5-methylbenzoic acid). In one aspect the lubricating oil composition contains additionally a minor amount of an overbased sulfonate.
Abstract: A grease composition is provided having improved extreme pressure properties and comprising an additive package of an insoluble phosphorus compound and an oil soluble sulfur compound. The particularly useful insoluble phosphorus compounds include the alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salts of a phosphorus acid while the useful soluble sulfur compounds include sulfurized hydrocarbons and organometallic sulfur salts.
Abstract: Amino-amides obtained by the reaction of polymeric fatty acids with poly(oxyethylene) diamines are readily compatible with water in all proportions and form clear, aqueous solutions which have excellent lubricating properties.
Abstract: A storage stable lubricating composition having improved anti-friction and anti-wear properties is provided by a base oil composition containing an additive combination of (1) a zinc dihydrocarbyl dithiophosphate, (2) an ester of a polycarboxylic acid and a glycol and (3) an ashless dispersant containing a high molecular weight aliphatic hydrocarbon oil solubilizing group attached thereto and wherein either the zinc or ester component or both are predispersed prior to adding them to the lubricating composition.
Abstract: A lubricating oil composition comprising a hydrocarbyl oil of lubricating viscosity, a metal-containing additive characterized by promoting the formation of hard deposits in an internal combustion engine, and a hydrocarbon-substituted succinimide represented by the formula: ##STR1## in which R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having from about 1 to 50 carbon atoms and R' is a hydrocarbon radical having from 3 to 20 carbon atoms, and a method for lubricating an internal combustion engine.
Abstract: Producing overbased carbonates by hydrolyzing a metal alkoxyalkoxide in the presence of a phenolic or sulphonic surfactant and carbonating the product of hydrolysis.
Abstract: A porous lubricant-impregnated bearing comprising a matrix of closely packed, discrete particles, such as glass microspheres, bonded together with a bonding material that is different from the particles, such as a cured organic bonding material, and that only partially fills the interstices between the particles; and a migratable lubricant dispersed in the unfilled interstices.

Abstract: Lubricant compositions are provided containing a stabilizing amount against oxidative degradation of an organo sulfur-containing nickel complex.
Abstract: The anti-wear and anti-friction properties of a fully formulated lubricating composition containing a zinc dialkyldithiophosphate or a similar metal dialkyldithiophosphate is improved by adding an amine salt of a dialkyldithiophosphate. The amine salt is prepared with a t-alkyl primary amine. The amine salt may be simply added to a formulated composition or used as a substitute for the metal dialkyldithiophosphate which are often included in lubricating compositions.
Abstract: Lubricating oil compositions are provided which comprise: (A) a major amount of oil of lubricating viscosity, and (B) an effective amount dissolved therein of each of (1) a zinc primary dihydrocarbyl dithiophosphate; (2) a mixture of (a) certain dimeric acids and (b) the reaction product of a monocarboxylic acid, certain polyalkylene polyamines and an alkenyl succinic anhydride; and (3) a substantially neutral zinc salt of a dihydrocarbyl sulfonic acid. These lubricating oil compositions are useful as functional fluids in a variety of systems as coolants, hydraulic fluids, turbine oils, spindle oils and the like.
Abstract: A mixture of the zinc salts of O,O-dialkyldithiophosphoric acids prepared by contacting a feedstock comprising a mixture of one or more C.sub.1 to C.sub.30 primary alcohol(s) and one or more C.sub.4 to C.sub.20 secondary alcohol(s) with P.sub.2 S.sub.5 to form a mixture of O,O'-dialkyldithiophosphoric acids and thereafter neutralizing the mixture of acids by contact with zinc oxide, the secondary alcohol(s) forming not less than 25 mol.% of the feedstock mixture.
Abstract: Described herein is an extreme pressure turbine lubricant exhibiting improved vapor space rust protection, oxidation stability and air release properties comprising synthetically derived triarylphosphates, benzotriazole, a 2,6-di-t-butylphenol as antioxidant, a phenol-free anti-rust concentrate and caprylic or capric acid.
Abstract: An extrudable, oil-permeated wicking material, for use in lubricating sleeve metal bearings, is made from a mass of steam-pressure-splayed, swollen, lignin-containing, dried, wood fibers, and a contained lubricating oil; where the weight ratio of oil:lignin containing wood fibers is from about 8:1 to about 3:1, and the oil is contained in microcapillary voids in contact with the lignin.
Abstract: In a process for the preparation of detergent additives for lubricant oils, of the type in which an alkylphenolsulfide is neutralized with an oxygen containing compound of an alkaline earth metal and carbonated with carbon dioxide, the process and particularly the neutralization step is carried out in the presence of a promotor selected from NH.sub.3 and NH.sub.4 OH and a co-promoter which is a short chain alcohol having not more than 5 carbon atoms.
