Abstract: Construction parts are protected against lightening by a layer which releases a cloud of ionized and ionizable particles to spread the area affected by the lightening flash and to fan out the current path. The layer may include additives which swell when heated to increase the volume and density of the cloud. An electrically and thermal conductive layer or two such layers each having predominantly one of these properties is provided underneath the releasing layer.
Abstract: A one-piece molded plastic stake includes a slender elongate body formed of four integral webs which taper inwardly from a rounded striking surface at the trailing end of the stake to an intermediate point of the stake where the webs extend outwardly to provide a shoulder to resist pullout, once the stake has been driven into the ground. The webs taper inwardy from the outer ends of the outwardly extending portions and merge at a point at the leading end of the stake. Reinforcing portions are provided between the webs at the trailing end of the stake and provide for an enlarged striking area.
Abstract: A pinhole free, asphalt coated fibrous mat is disclosed herein. This mat is made by selecting a fibrous base mat and preparing or otherwise providing a thixotropic mixture including asphalt emulsion and an additive for making the mixture thixotropic. Abstract: Multifilament synthetic polymer yarn is texturized by passing the yarn in a gas stream to a diffuser zone to cause the gas to expand and the yarn filaments to splay open. The yarn filaments are then separated from the expanding gas stream towards a continuous smooth side wall surface defining one end of a bulking chamber. At this end of the chamber the filaments are impacted with each other and the smooth wall surface to form a compact yarn mass. This yarn mass is pushed into and through a slotted portion of the bulking chamber. Simultaneously the gas passes through the yarn mass initially formed in the chamber and then discharges laterally from this mass as it is pushed into the slotted portion.
