  • Patent number: 4168602
Abstract: Novel block copolymer formed by melt blending a melt spinnable polyamide, such as nylon-6, and a poly(dioxa-arylamide), such as poly(4,7-dioxadecamethylene terephthalamide) (also known as N-30203-T), is disclosed. Said copolymer has utility as a fiber. The fiber of a block copolymer, for example of nylon-6 and said poly(dioxa-arylamide) which is also known as N-30203-T/6, has superior moisture absorption and initial modulus characteristics than that of nylon-6. Furthermore, resulting fiber still substantially maintains the other desirable properties of the major constituent, for example, nylon-6.

  • Patent number: 4166145
Abstract: A carbon-organic resin composite which has been initially shaped as by molding and in which the resin binder has been at least partially precured is transformed into an all-carbon composite and substantially densified by a continuous process in which the composite is continuously heated at different temperatures and subjected to increased pressure. Initially, the composite is heated at a first rate to a temperature on the order of 1000.degree. F., the first rate and the increased pressure applied to the composite being selected to substantially decompose the resin rapidly but without delamination or other damage to the composite. Heating is then continued at a second rate until the composite undergoes substantial softening and becomes plastic, typically at a temperature in excess of 3500.degree. F. Thereafter the composite is maintained at a high temperature, typically in excess of 5000.degree. F.

  • Patent number: 4160059
Abstract: A novel adsorptive nonwoven fabric having good strength as well as good permeability and softness and a method of making the same is disclosed. This product consists essentially of supporting fibers containing a heat-fusible fiber and an adsorptive material, said supporting fibers being disintegrated in air before they are admixed with an adsorptive material, and a web is formed from the final mixture followed by being subjected to a heat treatment at a temperature above the melting point of said heat-fusible fiber to firmly fix said adsorptive material in the web by heat-fusion of the heat-fusible fiber.

  • Patent number: 4157411
Abstract: Nets or netting for fishing and for other purposes are fabricated without the customary laborious, time-consuming and costly hand knotting procedure and without the requirement for skill. The fabricating procedure can be automated for greater efficiency. The crossing strands which are to form the netting are connected at their points of crossing by crimped metal elements which lock the crossing strands against displacement in any direction. The crimped metal elements may be employed alone or in conjunction with an adhesive mass further bonding and locking the crossing net strands. In a variant, the strands are looped around the crimped metal elements for further security. The strands may also be knotted adjacent to their crossing points with the knots contained in an adhesive mass and further held by crimped metal strips.

  • Patent number: 4156753
Abstract: This invention relates to a fiber product formed by flexible coating, the fiber product being made of a cloth knitted or woven by fiber yarns. Each space between the fiber yarns facing to each other is formed 1.5 to 4 times as large as the thickness of each fiber yarn, and a repelling layer of a preferred resin is coated on the outer overall surface of the fiber yarns, subsequently a thin, expansible and flexible layer of polyvinyl chloride resin being, under no pressure, coated on one outer portion of the fiber yarns by the polyvinyl chloride resin paste. As a result, the repelling layer can prevent the polyvinyl chloride resin paste from penetrating into the space between the facing fiber yarns.

  • Patent number: 4148958
Abstract: A breathable lining and shaping material especially suited for garments, comprising a nonwoven layer of randomly arranged fibers superposed on a nonwoven layer of oriented fibers, means holding together the fibers of each layer and holding the layers together, and an outer binder imprinted on the outer face of the oriented fiber layer, the weight of the outer binder being at most 50% of the material weight, the length to width strength ratio of the randomly arranged fiber layer ranging from about 4:1 to 1:4. Advantageously a heat activatable adhesive is provided at spaced locations on the outer face of the randomly arranged layer, whereby the material can be joined to the underside of a garment by hot pressing. The outer binder on the outside of the oriented fiber layer preferably is printed in a regular pattern to ensure that all fibers are tied down by bonds at multiple points.
