Abstract: A method and apparatus relating to accessory items for persons who wear wigs and the like is disclosed.A foundation cap securely holds a wig in place on the wearer's head. An accessory item for bald or nearly bald wearers secures the foundation cap to the scalp. The foundation cap comprises a nylon-like stretch material having a closed rounded end and an elasticized open end. A circular skirt of similar stretch material is located at about the midpoint of the foundation cap. Filler material is inserted, as needed, into the cap. For a bald, or near bald wearers, an accessory item comprising an elastic band integrally housing a pre-rolled filler section is first placed over the head to hold the foundation cap in place.The method employs first and second substantially flat rolled sections which are located near the wearer's natural hairline before the wearer's hair loss.

Abstract: A matrix display of the back-illiminated electromechanical type has enhanced picture display features by including display elements whose brightness is individually adjustable.In one arrangement, each display element has an aperture and an opaque shutter selectively settable to each one of at least three stable positions. In one position, the shutter covers the aperture completely, and in the other positions, it uncovers the aperture to a differing extent so as to pass light of differing intensity depending on the position.The activating mechanism for the matrix display is a moving head having two magnetic actuators arranged side-by-side for each row of display elements. Abstract: A scrolling sign has a sign face member with windows in which indicia appear. A framework is mounted proximate the interior surface of the sign face member. A pair of shafts are mounted on the framework to contain a plurality of web rolls between which webs containing indicia extend. Guides adjacent the windows guides the web and prevent light leaks. The guides are so formed as to avoid shadows on the sign face member. A drive mechanism simultaneously rotates the shafts. Clutches, interposed between the web rolls and the shafts, are selectively operable to move the webs in one or the other direction across the window to alter the displayed indicia. A constantly applied differential brake is also coupled to said web rolls to maintain tension on the webs and to assist in their movement.

Abstract: A polygonal frame comprising a plurality of framing pieces and the same number of assembly devices. Both ends of each framing piece are slanted so as to fit together with matching slanted framing pieces. The rear side of each framing piece is set with an oblong recess and a longitudinal slot on an appropriate position proximate to each end thereof. Each assembly device comprises: an L-shaped assembly plate which consists of an L-shaped plate portion, two inclined supporting blocks disposed under opposite sides of the plate portion, and an L-shaped supporting rail with each of its two ends connecting to the two opposite supporting blocks; two inclined fastening blocks, each having a lengthwise groove on its lower central portion and a threaded vertical hole to enable a screw to go through; and two screws for engaging with the fastening blocks.

Abstract: A message board has a back plate, strips bearing alphanumeric characters and being secured to the forward surface of the back plate, and a see-through face plate attachable to the back plate and communicating with character strips in such a manner as to prevent displacement. The back plate is preferably provided with locating pins projecting from a forward surface thereof to receive the character being strips thereon prior to attachment of the face plate. The strips have apertures for receiving the pins therein. Alternatively, magnetic strips and ferrous elements are used for magnetically securing the strips to the back plate.

Abstract: A surgical clip is disclosed having a pair of spaced arms joined by a bridge that is deformed by pulling on a tang, which is connected to the bridge by a frangible neck. Also disclosed is a tool for pulling the tang, and an anastomosis procedure that may be quickly performed using the clip and tool.

Abstract: A permanent wave roller for use in providing a permanent wave to hair which includes a rod having a predetermined length and an outer surface upon which an individual's hair is to be rolled to form a curl. An elongated pressure element extends along the rod for applying pressure toward the outer surface of the rod for maintaining hair in a curl upon the rod. A pad is positioned on the outer surface of the rod. The pad extends substantially along the length of the rod and includes a waffle-like shape for enhancing the passage of a permanent solution to a curl and to prevent damage to an individual's hair. The pressure element may be an elastic cord having a first end removably affixed to one end of said rod and a second end removably affixed to a second end of said rod. The rod includes a central portion having a smaller diameter in relation to end portions of the rod.

Abstract: A display stand for belt buckles or other articles includes an upright stand having one or more vertical display surfaces. A vertical slot is provided in the display which is adapted to receive the buckle clip of a belt buckle or a projection on any other type of article to be displayed. The display also includes a plurality of holes which extend from the display surface at an angle so that they pass through the slot. A plurality of elongate pins are provided to be inserted through the holes and the slot. An article is displayed by inserting its clip or projection into the slot and inserting a pin in the hole to secure the buckle or other article to the stand.

Abstract: A device for applying a hair treatment product comprises on the one hand a reservoir for the product to be applied and, on the other hand, an applicator end fitting fitted on the outlet opening of the reservoir and comprising at least one outlet opening for the said product and carrying at its free end at least one fork with two prongs which may be guided from one end of a hair tress to the other when the tress is placed between the two prongs of the fork with a view to applying the product over the tress. The space separating the two prongs opens directly at their base into a storage receptacle for the product into which there open or opens the outlet orifice(s) for the said product. This receptacle is delimited on one of its lateral faces by a movable flap which, when in the position freeing the above-mentioned receptacle, permits easy cleaning of the applicator head.

Abstract: An electric sign is arranged to afford a readily observable visual indication of the condition of an establishment such as a retail establishment having an entrance door provided with a lock and wherein the sign includes a visual device for indicating a condition of the establishment such as "closed" or "open" together with a switch for energizing the visual device, and a control mechanism actuated in coordination with locking and unlocking of the establishment door for selectively controlling the control mechanism for energizing the visual device.

Abstract: An automatic page turning device of the type comprising a movable element controlled by a motor of which the operation is controlled by a control member to be actuated by the user. It is characterized in that it comprises a suction tube to lift a page as well as a movable element comprised of a double acting pusher. The double acting pusher is situated directly above a document and is movably mounted in linear translation in the two opposite directions transverse to the side of the pages of a document and along which they are bound together. The suction tube and the double acting pusher are also movably mounted perpendicularly to the plane of a support structure.

Abstract: The present invention provides an illuminated display which includes a light-transmitting member having at least one face, a light source adjacent to the member, and an image applied to the face. The image is formed by adhering a plurality of light-transmitting particles to the face by means of a light-transmitting adhesive in the shape of the image, whereby, when the light source is lit, the image appears to be brighter than the rest of the light-transmitting member.

Abstract: A display element is disclosed which can be used for displaying product information forwardly of an apertured product display shelf and which can be used selectively as a price channel flag for securing in a price channel in a supermarket and the like. The element is formed from a blank of plastic sheet having rectangular display and attachment panels with a transverse fold line extending therebetween. The attachment panel has a slit which forms a depressable arrow-shaped head for secruing in an aperture of the shelf adjacent the forward edge. Sections of the attachment panel adjacent the head engage the upper surface of the shelf thereby precluding upward tilting of the element. The display panel is folded down in front of the shelf and can be provided with an information display card or label.

Abstract: A hair-grooming tool has a tubular roller sleeve extending along a sleeve axis and having an axially open rear end and an opposite axially substantially closed front end provided with an axially backwardly open seat and an array of bristle tufts projecting radially from the sleeve. A separate wand extending along a wand axis has a rear handle portion adapted to be held in the hand and an opposite front portion terminating at a front wand end and fittable snugly within the roller sleeve with the axes coaxial. A locking formation on the closed end of the wand is shaped to fit axially forward into the seat to retain the roller sleeve on the wand against axial movement thereon in a holding position and to permit the roller sleeve to be axially separated from the wand in a freeing position. Thus the roller is fitted to the wand to form a brush that is used to brush out and then wind up the lock of hair in question.

Both types of teeth are cantileveredly mounted to a hollow handle having a pair of electrical wires extending therethrough and through the hollow interiors of the heated teeth to electrically heat the heated teeth. Each heated tooth includes resistance elements therein to transfer the electrical energy into heat energy. A pair of heat shields are mounted to, but spaced apart from, the comb main body creating a heat insulation barrier for gripping purposes. A plurality of slots extend transversely across each unheated tooth allowing a beard to be passed through the slots contacting the heated teeth for grooming purposes.

Abstract: A hair curling rod assembly consisting of an elongated hollow rod molded of thermoplastic material and having one closed end and an opposite open end, the open end of the rod having a cylindrical opening and the closed end of the rod having an axial hole in the center of its closed end, a hair tress-fastening cord of stretchable elastomeric material passing through the axial hole in the closed end of the rod with the end of the cord lying within the hollow rod being knotted so as to secure it within said rod, the closed end of the rod also having along its outer rim a plurality of grooves equally spaced around the rim, these grooves being sized to snugly contain the tress-fastening cord as the cord is stretched from one end to the other of the rod, and a cylindrical plug sized to fit into the cylindrical opening in the rod and having an axial hole through which passes the opposite end of the cord with that end of the cord then knotted so as to retain the plug onto the cord.

Abstract: A badge having a design of a face in which members corresponding to eyebrows, eyes and a mouth are movably mounted on the front side of a body of the badge to indicate facial expressions such as, for example, a smile or a frown. Engaging members for allowing relative movement in the directions of the members corresponding to the eyebrows, the eyes and the mouth project from the back surface side of the body of the badge, and an operating plate having slots engaged with the engaging members is movably mounted on the body, thereby controlling the movements of the eyebrow, the eye and the mouth members according to the shape of the slots.

Abstract: A display element including a sealed housing filled with an opaque, translucent or colored transparent liquid and having a screen therein colored on its front side and movable back and forth within the housing. The housing has a front transparent panel such that, when the screen is displaced in one direction, the colored front side of the screen is visible through the transparent panel. When the screen is displaced in the other direction, the colored front side of the screen is obscured or hidden from view by the liquid, which may be white or a color different from that of the screen. In one alternate embodiment, the transparent panel of the housing includes colored message indicia therein, which color matches either the liquid color or that of the colored front side of the screen, the other color contrasting. When the screen is moved in one direction, the message indicia disappears; in the other direction, the contrasting background color makes the message indicia readily visible.
