  • Patent number: 4114493
Abstract: A cutter for cutting continuous stock materials into discrete lengths is disclosed. The cutting device includes a plurality of rotatable cutting tools or blades extending transversely across a cutting zone. The cutting tools are mounted in a common plane, are intermeshed, and are synchronously driven in opposite directions. The cutting zones of the intermeshed cutting tools overlap and thus the cutting device is capable of performing the cutting operation by movement in one direction through the material being cut. The cutting tools have opposed segments that carry cutting edges. In one form of tool, the cutting edges are spaced from the axis of rotation of the cutting tool by a distance that continuously increases in a direction opposite the direction of rotation of the cutting tool. This change in distance can be related to the speed of rotation of the cutting tools and the speed at which the cutting tools are advanced through the material being cut.

  • Patent number: 4111346
Abstract: A tube cutting machine has a cutting station and an intermittently operable feed means comprising an air cylinder operating a feed clamp assembly. The cylinder and clamp assembly axially advance an elongated section of tubing to present trailing end portions of leading end tube sections at the cutting station. A cutting clamp assembly securely holds the tube rearwardly of each trailing end portion for the cutting operation. A centrally apertured rotary cutting head has three radially movable rotary cutters or rollers which effect a partial cut at each trailing end portion. The cutting head and its operating means include positive mechanical actuating means for the small rotary cutters or rollers and an adjustable means is provided for precisely limiting inward cutter or roller movement in accordance with tube diameter and wall thickness.

  • Patent number: 4106380
Abstract: A method and apparatus for acting on angle irons or the like. A vertical stack of angle irons is provided and the angle irons are fed one at a time to a punching position. At the punching position a hole of selected size is punched in the angle iron, and the angle iron is fed from the punching position in a linear direction of movement to a cutting position. The length of the angle iron to be cut is determined by measuring the length of angle iron in the direction of movement past the cutting position, and the angle iron is cut at the cutting position. Each cut angle iron is removed from the cutting position in a direction normal to the linear direction of movement of the angle iron to the cutting position. A computer may be provided for controlling operation of all motors to affect selection of punch sizes and cutting blades, and to affect operation of all the power mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 4106147
Abstract: In shearing apparatus comprising a fixed and a movable shear element for shearing work such as wire into desired lengths, a stop member is provided for stopping the wire as same is fed endwise through the fixed shear element. Each time the wire length projecting out of the fixed shear element is cut off, the stop member is pivoted against the force of a spring to relieve the impact of the shearing operation exerted thereon. For adjustably moving the stop member toward and away from the fixed shear element, the stop member is mounted on a carriage having a tapped hole through which extends a threaded first shaft geared to a second shaft. This second shaft can be rotated manually for moving the carriage toward or away from the fixed shear element and can be locked in a desired angular position by a locking pin which is spring biased into engagement in any of several circumferentially spaced indentations formed in a collar on the second shaft.
