  • Patent number: 4586296
Abstract: The method of finishing the surface of a disc, such as a disc whereon information is magnetically recorded for use in computers and the like. It involves urging against one side of a rotating disc, a polishing pad having a polishing compound or medium thereon, and simultaneously urging a non-polishing pad against the opposite side of such disc in alignment with the polishing pad. To simultaneously polish the opposite side surfaces of the disc, a second pair of pads (one polishing and one non-polishing) is equiangularly spaced on the disc in relation to the first pair of pads, but the pads of the second pair of pads are reversed so as to cause the finishing process to occur on the disc side not being polished by the first pair of pads. Any desired even numbered pairs of pads may be employed. The polishing and non-polishing pads are caused to rotate relative to and against the respective side of the disc as the disc itself is caused to rotate about its axis.

  • Patent number: 4584772
Abstract: A hand-held planing tool has a housing with a chamber adapted to receive a rotary driven planer head. The chamber is sized to receive either a small planer head and blade which makes a shallow flat planar cut in a workpiece, or a larger planer head and blade which makes a profiling cut (e.g., an irregular cut) in a workpiece. The housing carries support members which extend downwardly to different depths to contact the portions of the profiling cut which are of corresponding depths, and thereby adapt the tool to travel along the profile.

  • Patent number: 4581962
Abstract: The invention is intended for use with threaded fasteners, screws, bolts and similar devices, in their almost limitless applications to assembling objects and structures. These fasteners exist in many types, each requiring a special tool bit.On many occasions screws or other fasteners must be installed or removed in locations difficult of access and of which clear view may not be obtained, also where use of two hands is not possible. This invention is particularly intended for these situations. The invention comprises basically a combination of a barrel (11 or 811) and collar (20 or 201), preferably made of stiff but flexible plastic, which fit over and enclose a tool for threaded fasteners, either with a fixed bit or one which can accept insertable bits. The barrel (11) provides at its working or tip end a set of flexible elements (31) which act to grip screw heads and hold them registered with the tool.

  • Patent number: 4580344
Abstract: A collapsible saw comprising an elongated hollow frame member, a handle pivotally connected to the frame member by an interconnecting member to form an angle with a saw blade connected between the free end portions of the angle, and a lever pivotally attached to the free end portion of the handle including a device for engagement with the saw blade and arranged to hold the saw blade by means of toggle action. When the saw is in the position for use, the handle and the interconnecting member abut the frame member at a distance from the point of attachment for the interconnecting member. The saw thus combines a rigid structure with rapid engagement of the saw blade.

  • Patent number: 4569160
Abstract: A sand blasting apparatus utilizes an aspiration system (1) to draw particulate media such as sand and a carrier gas such as air into a mixing chamber of a discharge nozzle through an aspiration probe and through a media supply conduit from a media reservoir, (2) to draw a liquid such as water into the mixing chamber through a liquid supply conduit from a liquid reservoir, and (3) to combine the liquid, the media and the carrier gas with a propulsion fluid such as compressed air so that what discharges from the nozzle is a controlled, uniformly combined flow of media, carrier gas, liquid and propulsion fluid. The aspiration effect needed to draw the media, the carrier gas and the liquid into the discharge nozzle is achieved by passing a flow of propulsion fluid along a flow path through the mixing chamber. The combined flow which discharges from the nozzle provides an enhanced blasting action.
