  • Patent number: 4503737
Abstract: A tool for engaging a damaged or mutilated hexagonal socket in a threaded fastener, or the like, so that sufficient torque may be applied to the fastener to effect unthreading and removal thereof from a part with which the fastener is engaged. One end portion of the tool is tapered and hexagonal in cross section, thereby providing three pairs of opposite sides. Each side is tapered inwardly by a predetermined angle which permits the sides of the end portion to wedge against respective walls of the socket when forcefully driven therein. The opposite ones of each pair of sides of the end portion are spaced by a gauge width which, together with the taper of the sides, coact to prevent the end portion of the tool from bottoming in the socket when the tool is fully engaged in the socket.

  • Patent number: 4493353
Abstract: A tool for countersinking nails into a workpiece has a base member, which is formed of resilient material, and has a generally flat bottom section resting on the workpiece. A metal guide is mounted in the base member. The guide has a central opening for receiving a nail in its bottom. A rigid cap member on the base above the guide has an aperture through it, and a nail set extends partially upward out of the aperture in the cap and extends into the opening in the guide above the nail for transmitting impact from a hammer on the nail. The bottom of the guide member is recessed from the bottom surface of the base so that the metal will not contact the workpiece. The cap has a greater diameter than the guide so that if the cap is struck when the bottom or the nail set is below the top of the workpiece, an impact on the cap is not transmitted to the guide but will be absorbed in the resilient material of the base. A nail starting section integral with the base member extends laterally outward.

  • Patent number: 4480668
Abstract: A screw driver kit has four driver blades in a magazine tube inside the handle. The tube has four separate holes for each driver blade and can be turned around by pushing with fingers so that each hole can be aligned with the central hole of the driver blade holder whereby each driver blade falls down into this hole and protrudes out of the driver blade holder if the handle is tilted down. A clamping head mounted on the driver blade holder is manipulated with fingers. When the driver blade completely sticks out of the driver blade holder, the clamping head is released back to its normal position and then the driver blade is caught steadfast by three steel balls which operate in ball holes in the lowest part of the driver blade holder. To change a driver blade, the clamping head is released and the tool is tilted upward, whereby the driver blade will drop by its own weight into the straight hole of the magazine tube. The tube is then rotated to choose another driver blade.

  • Patent number: 4478113
Abstract: A device is disclosed herein for aiding in properly connecting the threaded segment of one object, for example a spark plug, to a complementary threaded segment of a second object, for example an engine block including a complementary threaded hole. This device is designed so as to be capable of applying sufficient torque to the first object to loosely connect its threaded segment to the threaded segment of the second object in a properly threaded fashion. On the other hand, the device is designed so as not to be able to apply sufficient torque to the first object to connect together the threaded segments in a way which would strip or otherwise damage the threads. In this way, once the two objects are loosely connected together in a properly threaded fashion, a second device, for example a standard socket wrench, can be utilized for tightening the two objects without fear of damaging their threads.
