  • Patent number: 10902740
Abstract: A teaching and learning aid for articulation of a verb-related language grammar. A number of grammar tables are gathered in structured assemblies. Each assembly describes different verb-related grammar category. A solid body unifies all assemblies into one system by providing one face to each assembly. Each face of a solid body has its assigned color to code its verb-related grammar category. Combination of sides of a solid body visualizes grammar of related colored parts in a sentence. A result is an intuitive and easy-to-use system for teaching, learning, presentation, navigation and analysis of a verb-related grammar.

  • Patent number: 10796595
Abstract: Systems and methods for training raters to rate constructed responses to tasks are described herein. In one embodiment, a plurality of trainee raters are selected without regard to their prior experience. The trainee raters are then train in individual training sessions, during which they are asked to rate responses to a task. Each session presents to the trainee rater the task, a rating rubric, and training responses to the task. The training program receives ratings assigned by the trainee rater to the training responses through a graphical user interface. Upon receiving the assigned rating, the training program presents feedback substantially immediately and determines a score for the trainee rater's assigned rating. Thereafter, qualified raters are selected from the plurality of trainee raters based upon their performance during the training sessions as compared with a statistical model. Operational constructed responses are then assigned to rated by the qualified raters.

  • Patent number: 10789552
Abstract: Generating distractors for text-based MCT items. An MCT item stem is received. The stem is transmitted to a QA system and a plurality of candidate answers related to the stem is received from the QA system. Incorrect answers in the plurality of candidate answers are identified. Textual features are extracted from the stem. A set of semantic criteria associated with the extracted textual features is generated. Based on the generated semantic criteria, a subset of the incorrect candidate answers is selected.

  • Patent number: 10748439
Abstract: A client device is configured to administer unique, equivalent, computer mediated, task versions of a particular task type automatically generated by a task versioning system. Multiple task versions, each comprising of at one stimulus sequence, are generated by performing geometric, symmetric or temporal transformations on the spatiotemporal relationships between one or more stimuli in a task version. Previous user performance may be captured and analyzed to determine a next task version. Task versioning systems with the ability to automatically generate multiple unique, equivalent task versions allow for accurate measurement of neurological, cognitive, and motor skills, by ensuring that learning effects arising from repeated task administrations are eliminated.

  • Patent number: 10699271
Abstract: Parents and entities incentivize students to learn using pledges of cash, goods, and services. Students earn incentivized rewards by interacting with lessons on a digital computing device, such as a desktop computer, notebook, tablet, or “smart phone.” The lessons may include digital flash cards, text, pictures, figures, audio and video recordings ranging from classroom lectures, to classical music, to animation of scientific principles. In flashcard embodiments, the accuracy of each answer is recorded on a histogram corresponding to a particular flashcard, or the principles taught therein. The application generates performance metrics from histogram data. The performance metrics are used to generate control parameters that control the frequency and order flashcard presentation. Statistical analysis, adaptive learning and/or artificial intelligence programs refine the control parameters governing flashcard review, thereby optimizing the functionality.

  • Patent number: 10692400
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a haptic system of rotating cylindrical shafts topped with caps to create a virtual sensation of Braille text by integrating a microprocessor with microdrive motors. The micro drive's shafts are crowned with plastic cylindrical caps, the top face of which are precisely flush or level with the device's display surface thereby emulating the standard diameter and feel of a Braille dot or Braille space in two dimensions. It is the rotation of the drive's shaft that spins the caps and simulates the sensation of a Braille dot that is felt with the fingertips. This sensation of a two dimensional rotating dot is the result of the top face of the capped shafts positioned flush with the device's display surface. Motors that alternate between rotating shafts and shafts at rest produce Braille cell dots and spaces, respectively.

  • Patent number: 10573193
Abstract: A process for simulating an expert experience comprises playing an expert simulation for a user, where the expert simulation is a processed video with tagged objects and untagged objects. During playback, a user may make an unprompted selection of an object in the video of the expert simulation, and the unprompted selection is received. In response to receiving the unprompted selection from the user, an entry interface for the user to enter in a freeform rationale is provided. After the user enters a freeform rationale through the entry interface, the freeform rationale is received. An expert rationale associated with a tagged object is displayed. Further, a process for creating the expert simulation comprises receiving raw video and superimposing a grid onto the raw video. An author tags objects within the video spatially, temporally, or both. Further, freeform data (e.g., an expert rationale) is associated with the tagged object.
