  • Patent number: 4641388
Abstract: A hydraulically operated dockboard comprising a ramp which is hinged at its rear edge to the frame of the dockboard, and a lip is hinged to the forward edge of the ramp. A main hydraulic cylinder unit connects the frame and the ramp, and by operating the cylinder unit the ramp can be pivoted upwardly from a horizontal cross traffic position to an upwardly inclined position. A lip cylinder interconnects the ramp and the lip and acts to pivot the lip from a downwardly hanging pendant position to an extended position. A hydraulic line is connected to the lip cylinder, and a control valve interconnects the hydraulic line to either a supply line or a return line that is connected to the reservoir of the hydraulic system. The control valve is normally biased to a first position where the lip cylinder is connected to the return line.

  • Patent number: 4639238
Abstract: A variable speed drive pulley comprises a hub and two annular flange plates around the hub in face-to-face relationship. One of the flange plates is mobile axially relative to the hub. An annular diaphragm of variable cone angle has a peripheral part forming a Belleville spring washer and a central part divided into radial fingers. The Belleville spring washer bears axially on the mobile flange plate through a connection piece and an elastic material annular spacer to which the connection piece is attached. The radial fingers bear on a support piece fixed axially with respect to the hub. A fluid-tight regulating chamber is formed between the mobile flange plate, the diaphragm, the support piece and the hub. It is adapted to be connected to a source of fluid. Sealing means in one piece with the elastic material space are disposed between the connection piece and the mobile flange plate.

  • Patent number: 4638873
Abstract: A direction and angle maintenance tool and a method for using same are provided for drilling directionally oriented boreholes. The tool generally comprises a mandrel and a sleeve, which is rotatably attachable around the mandrel. The mandrel has a longitudinal bore and is attachable at its upper end to a rotary drill string and at its lower end to a rotary drill bit sub which is attached to a rotary drill bit. The sleeve has an eccentric longitudinal bore, forming a heavy, or weighted, side of the sleeve. A gauge insert is provided which is longitudinally attachable to the weighted side of the sleeve. By varying the size of the insert, the angle of deviation of a directionally drilled borehole may be maintained or adjusted. A self-adjusting blade may be added in order to aid in maintaining a desired angle of deviation or to induce a desired change of direction.

  • Patent number: 4637468
Abstract: A lower formation of a multizone well is perforated by a perforating gun lowered by wireline, and then fractured. A packer (modified Pengo packer) with a central bore and a valve seat is positioned within the casing between the lower and upper formations. A plug is set into the packer valve seat by a perforating gun and released by shearing a shear pin. The well is pressurized to maintain the plug in the valve seat, the perforating gun raised, and the casing opposite the upper formation perforated. The gun is removed, and the upper formation fractured. After a suitable flow-back period, another packer is then positioned in the casing above the upper perforated formation. The pressure differential between formations maintains the plug seated, allowing the upper formation to be produced. When a change in pressure differential raises the plug off the valve seat, the lower formation may be produced.

  • Patent number: 4637463
Abstract: An echo ranging gun (10) is disclosed which is useable with high pressure gas wells having gas pressure exceeding 15,000 psi. The gun (10) is connected to the needle valve (30) typically encountered on a well having high pressure. The needle valve can have a diameter as small as approximately 1/8 inch. The gun (10) has a passage (38) which is exposed to the gas in the wellbore (14) and a volume chamber (46). A poppet valve (56) is movable between open and closed positions in the volume chamber by rotating a wing handle (88) connected to a head (78) within the volume chamber (46) which has a ramp (80) to contact the poppet valve (56) to move the valve to the closed position. A bleed valve (112) is used to bleed the wellbore gas from the volume chamber to create a predetermined pressure differential between the passage (38) and volume chamber (46). Further rotation of the wing handle (88) causes the poppet valve (56) to be released from the ramp at a down step (86).

  • Patent number: RE32343
Abstract: A retrievable well safety valve in a cased well system including a tubing string, a dual packer downhole around the tubing sealing with the casing and submersible pump in the tubing string below the packer. The safety valve controls flow of pumped fluids through the tubing to surface and directs gas flow into the casing annulus above the packer. When the safety valve is landed in cooperating tubing nipples above the packer, separated central annular flow passages are formed for pumped fluids and gas respectively.A ball valve in the central flow passage controls pumped fluid flow therethrough and an annular valve coupled to the ball valve controls gas flow from below the packer through the annular flow passage around and by the ball valve. When the ball valve is in the down and open position, the valve ball member engages a lower seat, which maintains the central and annular flow passages separate and prevents comingling flow of fluids and gas.
