  • Patent number: 5482088
Abstract: A double-containment piping assembly has two anchor supports, and at least one elbow fitting with an outer elbow section and an inner elbow section received within the inner elbow section. A first leg having a first inner pipe received within a first outer pipe is coupled between an anchor support and the elbow fitting. A second leg having a second inner pipe received within a second outer pipe is coupled between the other anchor support and the other side of the elbow fitting. First flexibility supports are mounted on either side of the elbow fitting, and permit axial and lateral movement of the inner pipe relative to the outer pipe in the areas of the elbow. First axial-guiding supports, which permit axial movement of the inner pipe relative to the outer pipe, but prevent lateral movement of the inner pipe, are each mounted a minimum distance from the elbow fitting between the inner and outer pipes.

  • Patent number: 5479961
Abstract: A plug for sealing the open end of a tube located in an opening in a tube sheet of a heat exchanger is described along with a method of installing the plug. The plug is comprised of a generally cylindrical metallic body of ductile material that is inserted into the open end of the tube at the tube sheet. The body carries one or more resilient seal rings and has a longitudinally extending blind central opening in the body. A body of pressure transmitting material, such as polyethylene is located in the body and an explosive charge is located in a longitudinally extending central opening in the body of pressure transmitting material. The explosive charge, when detonated, expands the metallic body of the plug and the resilient seal ring into sealing engagement with the tube.

  • Patent number: 5477886
Abstract: An inflatable closing plug for pipes and a method of manufacturing same. The plug includes a unitary balloon-like element of elastic material, and a wire located on and adhered to the outer surface of the balloon-like element. The wire extends from the first end of the balloon-like element to the second end of the balloon-like element, and has a coefficient of elasticity which is less than the coefficient of elasticity of the elastic material of the balloon-like element. The plug can expand freely in the radial direction and is bounded in axial sense by the longitudinal wire or wires, in order to permit a sufficient closing pressure to be achieved. To manufacture the plug the balloon-like element is inflated to a predetermined pressure. At least one wire is placed on the outer surface of the inflated balloon-like element between its two ends, and adhered thereto.

  • Patent number: 5477887
Abstract: A tubular liner for use in softlining methods of pipe rehabilitation. The tubular liner is constructed of plastic materials or laminates of plastic material which have one or more resin-absorbing layers. The tubular liner of the present invention is made by stitching together the faces of the liner material to form a tube. The seam of the tube is then sealed and the sealed seam is fused to the tube. The resulting structure provides a durable tubular liner that resists rupture or leakage of the seam during use in pipe rehabilitation operations.

  • Patent number: 5462090
Abstract: A flexible hose construction and method of making the same are provided, the flexible hose construction comprising an inner corrugated hose made of polymeric material and having a plurality of outwardly convex projections with recesses therebetween and extending from one end thereof to the other end thereof, an outer sleeve of reinforcing material disposed in telescoping relation on the inner hose, and a tube of polymeric material disposed between the sleeve of reinforcing material and the inner hose and extending in a generally straight-line manner from projection to projection of the inner hose so as to tend to prevent the sleeve of reinforcing material from entering into the recesses of the inner hose an amount that would tend to substantially reduce the flexibility characteristics of the inner hose.

  • Patent number: 5458155
Abstract: A slipliner for renovating a semi-elliptical conduit such as a masonry sewer line. The bottom of a semi-rigid cylindrical liner pipe is split longitudinally and a floor panel is mounted across the bottom of the pipe to spread the edges of the cut. This bends the lower side walls of the pipe outwardly so that these correspond to the generally vertical side walls of the conduit, while the upper portion of the pipe remains generally cylindrical so as to correspond to the top wall of the conduit and the floor panel corresponds to the generally horizontal bottom wall of the conduit. The slipliner of the present invention is thus much more closely matched in shape to the semi-elliptical conduit than would be a conventional, cylindrical liner.

  • Patent number: 5456290
Abstract: Tube plug and method for plugging a heat exchanger tube having an inner wall, which tube plug has a reduced susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking. The tube plug includes a shell having a closed end, an open end and an outer wall, the shell defining a chamber therein in communication with the open end of the shell. Disposed in the chamber is an expander member for expanding the outer wall of the shell into sealing engagement with the inner wall of the tube. A sealing member engages the expander member and is disposed across the open end of the shell for sealing the chamber defined by the shell so that fluid can not enter the chamber to corrosively attack the shell.

  • Patent number: 5456291
Abstract: In order to obtain optimum absorption and compensation of relative movements in an exhaust gas system while at the same time avoiding a transmission of movement and the occurrence of a resonance phenomena, a conduit element is proposed having a bellows and a metallic braided or knit jacket. The bellows is fashioned as a highly flexible bellows with an all around absorption of movement. The jacket is applied to the bellows so that the jacket solely follows substantially the wave crests of the bellows.

  • Patent number: 5454402
Abstract: A hydraulically efficient metal pipe particularly adapted for use in storm drain and sanitary sewer applications which is adapted for use with a self-supporting interior inert protective lining. The pipe has a channeled wall defining a plurality of outwardly projecting structural ribs and a hydraulically smooth interior surface. The ribs are preferably of a helical configuration and the channels which are formed interiorly thereof are generally either square or rectangular in cross-section and are open along the interior surface of the pipe. The walls defining the ribs can be tapered inwardly to form triangular-shaped channels so as to define an anchor throughout the length of the pipe for securing thereto a smooth interior lining of corrosion-resistant protective material.

  • Patent number: 5450879
Abstract: A cornerless slip-on flange system for duct connections. The system utilizes flange pieces to form a frame at the end of a duct section without the use of connectors at the corners of the flanges, the frames of two sections being used to join the two ducts sections together. The flange pieces each have a male end and a female end with the male end of one flange piece being inserted into the female end of the adjacent flange piece at each corner to form the frame. The frames can then be installed on the ends of the ducts to be joined and fastened together by inserting suitable fasteners through preformed openings in the flange pieces.
