  • Patent number: 5313986
Abstract: The method and apparatus are useful in positioning components, for example two half shells of a clamp for a pipeline or other cylindrical member (10). One half-shell (12) is clamped by studs (56) to brackets (52) on a carriage (16) which can then traverse about the member (10) by engagement of sprockets (30, 28) with chains (18) encircling the member (10). A second half-shell is then lowered by crane onto the member (10). The two half shells are clamped together by studs and the brackets (52) released and swung clear. The apparatus can then be removed if desired. Drive to the carriage (16) is through a flexible shaft (70), gearbox (34) and sprockets (30) connected together by drive shaft (33). Wheels (26) roll on the member (10).

  • Patent number: 5303740
Abstract: There is disclosed a line blind assembly having a pair of tubular members adapted to be connected in a flowline and connected to one another by bolts having nuts on their ends to permit sealing faces on the inner ends of the tubular members to be tightly engaged with sealing faces on the opposite sides of either a disc or a spacer ring upon removal of the other from within the space. A series of circumferentially spaced, hydraulically operable, extendable and retractable actuators are connected at one end to one tubular member and the other end to the other tubular member, so that the sealing faces may be moved toward and away from one another independently of the bolts and nuts.

  • Patent number: 5297581
Abstract: Pipeline plugger has a piston (22) on its push-pull rod (16) in a cylinder (23) the lower end (25, 26) of which is sealed to the swivel member (24) in which the push-pull rod is sealingly slidable, the upper end (29) of the cyliner (23) is slidably sealed on the push-pull rod, a vent hole (30) to atmosphere is provided from the cylinder (23) adjacent the swivel seal (15), and a bleed passageway (31) is provided in the push-pull rod from adjacent the plug (18) to just above the piston (22), whereby, when the damper type valve (12) is opened, gas admitted into the chamber (14) is bled through the passageway (31) to above the piston (22), thus applying a downward load on the piston annulus to counterbalance the upward gas load on the push-pull rod (16), so that the plug (18) can then be pushed down easily into the pipe (11) through the valve (12), the branch (13) and the hole (19) in the pipe.

  • Patent number: 5293904
Abstract: A pneumatic liquid injector de-icing system designed for use on air brake lines of a train includes an alcohol storage tank provided with fittings for engagement between the train air supply lines and the train brake lines. The storage tank may be provided with a pressure gauge for monitoring pressure in the system. In use, when operating in cold conditions where brake line freezing is encountered, alcohol is introduced into the brake lines. The alcohol absorbs moisture and thaws ice in the brake lines so as to prevent ice-up. In an alternative embodiment, one line of the storage tank is terminated by a plunger so it may be used to unclog toilets. In yet another alternative embodiment, one line of the storage tank is adapted to be connected to an RV so the latter may be winterized.

  • Patent number: 5293905
Abstract: A pipeline plug is disclosed wherein the rear portion of the plug is axially movable relative to the body of the plug and is provided with pipeline engaging drag inducing members. While the plug is propelled by the pipeline fluid flow, the dragging effect maintains the rear portion at its rearmost extreme. When the plug reaches its determined position in the pipeline, the reversal of flow in the pipeline is resisted by the drag means with the resulting shift of the rear portion forwardly of the plug, triggering the locking of the plug in place and subsequent expansion of the seals of the plug, all caused solely by the pressure differential generated in the pipeline to be worked upon.

  • Patent number: 5292194
Abstract: A device for preparing liquid to thin pulpy media having an inner chamber 1 is substantially symmetrical about longitudinal axis, and the inner chamber has a neck end and a passage end. An outer circumference of the inner chamber tapers down from the passage and to the neck end. An outer chamber surrounds the inner chamber, and the outer chamber is also substantially symmetrical about the longitudinal axis. The outer chamber communicates with the inner chamber through an opening in the neck of the inner chamber, and an opening in the passage end of the inner chamber. A centrifuge wheel is positioned inside the outer chamber and outside the inner chamber. The centrifuge wheel has an intake pipe extending from a center of the centrifuge wheel, and this intake pipe extends into the neck opening of the inner chamber. The centrifuge wheel and the intake pipe are substantially symmetrical with, and rotate about the longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 5289851
Abstract: A tube plug for sealing the end of a tube is provided, which includes a cylindrical housing member sized for insertion within the end portion of the tube. The housing member has a longitudinal blind bore comprising a smooth portion communicating with a threaded portion. An eccentric locking ring is mounted on the housing member for locking the inserted housing member against rotation relative to the tube. An insert member having a threaded end portion is received within the threaded portion of the bore. An enlarged portion is positioned to be drawn within the smooth portion of the bore in response to rotation of the insert member threaded end portion in the bore threaded portion. A tapered portion is provided between the end portion and the enlarged portion. The tapered portion is formed separately from the remainder of the insert member in the form of a truncated cone with a threaded bore therethrough for receiving the threaded end portion of the insert member.
