  • Patent number: 5287892
Abstract: A compact, easily used, high quality sealing plug for use with ultrasonic testing equipment which incorporates a single annular body with an indented diaphragm portion, two lips, an annular vertical wall extending upwardly from said indented diaphragm portion of said single circular body with two annular lips extending outwardly therefrom, one at the upper end of said annular wall and the other therebelow so that when said seal is in use, the upper lip will maintain a position above the insulation material in which the seal is placed, while the lower lip will be below said outermost surface, both lips counteracting each other to maintain tension therebetween and the present invention from becoming unintentionally dislodged from its location. Alternative embodiments of the present invention are also disclosed which include alternative lip arrangements for alternative sealing needs and desires.

  • Patent number: 5287893
Abstract: A method is provided for replacing a length of a branch gas main 1 joined to a spine main 2 with a length of replacement main 7 having an outer diameter smaller than the inner diameter of the branch main. In the method access is gained to the bore of the branch main and one end of the replacement main 7 is fed along the branch main 1 via the access point and towards the spine main 2 until the branch main 1 has been replaced. During and after the feeding step gas is prevented from entering any clearance 20 between the mains 1 and 7 by means of a head 9 attached to the leading end of the main 7. After the feeding step a sealant 25 is injected into the branch main 1 to form a seal within the clearance 20.

  • Patent number: 5271433
Abstract: A hose for lining pressure pipe lines is described comprising a web being made up of warp and woof threads, which are made of plastic, as well as a coating of thermoplastic material, which coating is impermeable to the medium to be transported in the pipe lines and is applied onto one side of the web. Due to the pressure of a fluid, the hose is introduced into a pipe line and turned up therewith, in which case a cement in the interior of the hose prior to turning-up will come between the outside of the hose and the inside wall of the pipe line. In order to, on the one hand, obtain high strength in the longitudinal direction and to, on the other hand, facilitate introduction of the hose into the pipe line, the stretching ability of the web, in the transverse direction of the hose, is greater by at least one third as compared to that in its longitudinal direction and, preferably, is at least twice as great.

  • Patent number: 5263515
Abstract: A threaded rod (40) extends through two blocks (20, 22). Each block (20, 22) has a bore. The bore of the first of the two blocks (20) is not threaded and is prevented from moving when the threaded rod is turned. The bore of the second of the two blocks (22) is threaded and engages the threads of the threaded rod (40). As the rod (40) is turned clockwise or counter clockwise, the second block (22) responds by moving toward or away from the first block (20). One side of each block (20, 22) is connected to a plate (24, 26) which is contoured to fit the inner wall of a tube (11) or pipe. The blocks (20, 22) and plates (24, 26) are pivotally connected by bars (30). A cold welding compound is applied to the plates and the device is inserted into a tube (11) to be repaired. When the plates (24, 26) are aligned over the portion of the tube (11 ) to be repaired, the threaded rod (40) is rotated so that the second block (22) moves toward the first block (20) causing the plates (24, 26) to move outward.

  • Patent number: 5261462
Abstract: A tubular structure, such as a pipe or pressure vessel, is provided with a wall formed from plastic, composites and elastomeric materials. The composite materials are spirally wound and are separated by elastomeric strips. The wall has an inner wall element formed by a continuous flexible plastic cylinder with a spiral projection on its outer surface. An outer layer is formed from alternating spirally wound strips of composite and elastomer. The composite strip has a radially inward projection axially spaced from the projection on the plastic cylinder but overlapping in the radial direction. The cylinder and layer are separated by an intermediate layer formed from composites and elastomeric strips. A composite strip is located between each pair of adjacent projections and separated from the projections by an elastomeric strip. An outer wall element is formed from alternating spirally wound composite and elastomeric strips having pitch greater than the inner wall element.
