  • Patent number: 6581810
Abstract: A shoulder guard for a hanger is formed from two wings which are substantially symmetrical and which are substantially identical except for attachment details. The wings have a pair of folds which are at an angle to normal to centerlines of the wings, and which permit the wings to fold flat against each other. When the wings are unfolded, the shoulder guard forms an arch. Cutouts are provided for tying multiple hangers together and cuts are provided for slipping the shoulder guard over the hook of the hanger by forcing the hook past the cuts. Additional cutouts facilitate the shoulder guard retaining its form at the ends and also provide support for particular garments.

  • Patent number: 6571667
Abstract: A latch device for a manual tong apparatus that incorporates a secondary catch mechanism is presented. Such a secondary catch would assist in maintaining the tong assembly in it's closed position during a reversing operation or at a time when load applied to the manual tong device in the gripping direction is very low. Additionally the secondary catch would also provide some additional protection by holding the tong assembly together in the event of a failure of certain tong components. The mechanism of the secondary catch is spring loaded and operates through two secondary up-down catch arms that are deactivated by swinging a handle in the direction that corresponds to the operator's natural motion to open the lug jaw.

  • Patent number: 6568300
Abstract: An adjustable wrench has a ratcheting feature by which its movable jaw retracts away from its fixed jaw when the handle is pulled in one direction, enabling the wrench to slip over the facets of a polygon-shaped nut, but which locks the jaws in position when the wrench handle is turned in the opposite direction. A jaw adjustment screw is positioned for rotation in the wrench head and is axially movable with the lower jaw, but only when a support wedge is slidingly retracted out from its normal position supporting the bottom end of the adjustment screw. The tool can have a ruled edge adjacent to the jaw for indicating jaw opening size. Another feature is a slidable fence device on the fixed jaw, to be moved slidably over a face of the nut when the wrench is in place, providing a stop against sliding of the wrench off the nut.

  • Patent number: 6568301
Abstract: An adjustable wrench including a main body, a slide block, a movable jaw and a handle. The main body is formed with a hollow section in which the slide block is transversely slidably disposed. An adjustment bolt is pivotally disposed on the slide block and engaged with the movable jaw. One side of the slide block adjacent to the handle is formed with a dented section. The handle has at least one stop member corresponding to the dented section for abutting against the slide block. When the handle is wrenched, the stop member abuts against and locate the slide block so as to fix the movable jaw. At this time, the fixed jaw and movable jaw can clamp and wrench a work piece. When the handle is wrenched in reverse direction, the stop member is disengage from the slide block, whereby the slide block and the movable jaw are pushed open by the work piece and idle. Accordingly, the adjustable wrench can one-way wrench the work piece.

  • Patent number: 6569177
Abstract: An ablation burr for a rotational atherectomy device that may reduce the risk of damage to a vessel wall while providing ablative cutting surfaces out to the maximum diameter of the burr. Two different abrasive surfaces are provided on the leading surface of the ablation burr. A less aggressive or finer abrasiveness is provided near the ablation burr maximum diameter, which is the portion of the burr nearest the vessel wall. This portion of the burr also presents a relatively shallow angle of attach to the vessel wall. A more aggressive or coarser abrasive is applied to portions of the burr disposed further from the vessel wall. In one embodiment, the more aggressive abrasive portion of the burr has a concave profile, thereby further reducing the possibility that the more aggressive abrasive will contact the vessel wall, even when the burr is rotated significantly away from the vessel axis.

  • Patent number: 6564680
Abstract: A hand manipulated torque tool, such as a screwdriver, having two handle portions pivotal between two modes of a straight relationship and a right angle relationship which forms a T-handled tool. A lock mechanism is operative between the handle portions to releasably hold the portions in the selected modes. The mechanism is accessible from the exterior of the tool, and it is operated by user finger pressure and it automatically re-locks upon release of the pressure and the subsequent pivoting of one handle portion to either of the two positions.

  • Patent number: 6553873
Abstract: A wrench assembly including a drive head and an attached socket for engaging a bolt or nut. When the drive head turns, the socket and any engaged threaded member will also rotate. A hydraulic motor and cylinder are also included. The hydraulic motor and cylinder rotate the drive head and socket independently of each other. Typically, the hydraulic motor will rotate the drive head faster than the cylinder but at lower torques. Thus, the hydraulic motor will spin the threaded member down until it is snug, and then the hydraulic cylinder will tighten the threaded member to the desired torque. Alternatively, the hydraulic cylinder may break the threaded member out when it is tight. The hydraulic motor will then spin the loosened threaded member out. Finally, the wrench assembly includes a hydraulic fluid distribution system, including one or more valves that regulate hydraulic fluid flow through the wrench assembly.

  • Patent number: 6550358
Abstract: An apparatus is provided that allows the use of a standard ratchet wrench on the “L” shaped Allen wrenches. With a square drive on one end, the end which normally goes over a bolt or nut has a slotted design which fits over the “L” shaped end of an Allen wrench. The invention then provides increased leverage and control to remove or tighten stubborn Allen bolts and also protects the user's hands from sudden slippage and associated rapped knuckles.

  • Patent number: 6550650
Abstract: A necktie includes a single-piece tie defining a display area and a knot area with the display area having a given pattern and the knot area having a pattern different from the given pattern. The one-piece tie can be woven or printed to produce the patterns. The tie can have a single-piece display-knot portion and a single-piece tail portion to be joined together. The tail portion can have a pattern, preferably, the same as the given pattern. A method of constructing a necktie includes cutting a tie from a single-piece of fabric having a given pattern at a display area and a pattern different from the given pattern at a knot area. The tie is folded lengthwise and is connected together at long edges. The edge-connected tie is turned inside out. Also, a single-piece display-knot portion can define the display and knot areas with the display-knot portion joined to a tail portion also preferably cut from a single-piece of fabric.

  • Patent number: 6550359
Abstract: A device for driving a part, including a parts driver having a drive axis and a nosepiece including three jaws arranged uniformly about the drive axis and defining an axial drive passage therebetween. The jaws are resiliently biased toward one another and are transitionable between a first configuration to retain the part within the drive passage and a second configuration to allow the part to be discharged from the drive passage by the parts driver. An adjacent pair of the jaws defines a transverse parts feed passage intersecting the drive passage and being oriented at an oblique angle relative to the drive axis. Each of the adjacent pair of jaws defines a substantially symmetrical portion of the feed passage.

  • Patent number: 6540121
Abstract: A collapsible garment hanger including a hook, first and second supporting arms, at least one spring element, and in some versions, a base. The first and second supporting arms are each connected to the hanger by means of integrally molded hinges. Each spring element is hingedly attached to the hook or base at one terminal point and to the first or second supporting arm at the opposite terminal point. The first and second supporting arms can be collapsed with one hand by forcing supporting arms to pivot at their hinge point, thereby allowing for easy insertion into the neck of a garment. This collapsing of the arms causes each spring element to elastically stretch or compress depending on its orientation creating an upward force on the arms which returns them to their original extended position once the user lets go of the supporting arms.
