  • Patent number: 6539825
Abstract: A ratcheting wrench comprises a handle and a head extending from the handle. A cavity is defined between a first side and a second side of the handle. A transverse hole is defined in the first side of the handle and communicated with the cavity. A drive member is rotatably mounted in a hole of the head. A block is mounted in the cavity of the handle, and a fixing member extends through the transverse hole of the handle and retains the block in the cavity. A pawl is mounted in the cavity of the handle. An elastic element is attached between the block and the pawl for biasing teeth of the pawl to engage with teeth of the drive member and for biasing the pawl to press against a wall defining the cavity of the handle.

  • Patent number: 6536501
Abstract: An apparatus for the mounting/dismounting of tires on wheels. A bead breaker module with elongated pressure clamps pivotally moved by an actuator such that the elongated pressure clamps extend from the perimeter of a tire to a position proximal the tire side and bead; the actuator urges the elongated pressure clamps together to disengage the bead from the rim. A time mount/dismount module having a base plate affixed to a wheel; a receiver and drive assembly rotatably affixed to the base plate with a receiver receiving a bead rolling tool which is inserted between a tire bead and wheel rim and which, when the receiver and drive assembly is rotated, disengages the bead from the rim or, when installing a tire, engages the bead relative to the rim.

  • Patent number: 6536306
Abstract: An intelligent cork screw device which determines the temperature of the bottle and informs the consumer as to what type of wine is suitable for that temperature. In a preferred embodiment, the cork screw provides a temperature readout. Alternative embodiments include temperature gauges which are marked to indicate the wines which are appropriate for that temperature. Other alternative embodiments provide entertainment features such as voice or other audio indications related to the temperature. Still other embodiments include visual indication such as lamps which indicate what type of wine would be proper for the temperature of the bottle being measured. The cork screw can use thermal measurement of the exterior of the wine bottle, or alternatively, the actual screw which penetrates the wine cork can be used as a temperature probe.

  • Patent number: 6530298
Abstract: An adjustable wrench has a ratcheting feature by which its movable jaw retracts away from its fixed jaw when the handle is pulled in one direction, enabling the wrench to slip over the facets of a polygon-shaped nut, but which locks the jaws in position when the wrench handle is turned in the opposite direction. A jaw adjustment screw is positioned for rotation in the wrench head and is axially movable with the lower jaw, but only when a support wedge is slidingly retracted out from its normal position supporting the bottom end of the adjustment screw. The tool can have a ruled edge adjacent to the jaw for indicating jaw opening size. Another feature is a slidable fence device on the fixed jaw, to be moved slidably over a face of the nut when the wrench is in place, providing a stop against sliding of the wrench off the nut.

  • Patent number: 6530099
Abstract: A composite pliers has crossed levers, each including a non-metallic body with an exposed metal cutter blade. The pliers includes strengthening and/or retaining structure around a pivot joint which does not extend into handle portions of the levers. This structure strengthens the pivot joint and can help confine the pliers parts in the event of failure. In one embodiment, each lever has a pivot joint strengthening structure insert molded therein, the structure extending into a jaw portion of each lever and protruding from the non-metallic body to form a workpiece engagement surface, such as a cutting blade. In one form, the jaws have more than one row of teeth with adjacent rows offset from each other. When the pliers is assembled from two identical lever members, each row of teeth on one lever will face the offset row of teeth on the other lever so that the peaks of the teeth on one lever fall within the grooves between the teeth on the opposing row.

  • Patent number: 6523441
Abstract: A switch device of a socket wrench extension includes a connecting shank formed with an axial circular hole receiving a restoring member and a drive rod, and a radial hole receiving a positioning ball. The drive rod has a tapered face and an insertion recess. A drive block is received in a radial oblong slot of the connecting shank, and has an insertion block that, may be inserted into the insertion recess of the drive rod. The drive block has a spring recess receiving a spring and a positioning pin. A control ring mounted on the connecting shank may move the drive block and the drive rod, whereby the positioning ball may be moved along the tapered face to sink into the radial hole, so that the connecting shank can be detached from the socket easily and quickly.

  • Patent number: 6523728
Abstract: This invention satisfies a long felt need to protect a typical baseball type cap from the crushing forces often associated with shipping and packaging. This invention incorporates the not previously used idea of a half-crown or full-crown insert to support the cap from underneath against crushing forces occurring during shipping which tend to make an unsupported hat have a sloppy, wrinkled and undesirable appearance. The insert is retained inside the baseball type cap by tucking it into or around the sweatband. The industry has typically used outer rigid packaging covers to protect the cap during shipping and packaging. While these covers protect the cap from crushing forces, they do not support the crown portion from underneath. An underneath supporting insert will force the cap to retain its shape for long periods of time and can be used by the retail purchaser to retain the cap's shape when not in use.

  • Patent number: 6524321
Abstract: A closure device for a puncture in a blood vessel is formed of a needle holder having a pair of first needle passages at a front side, and a needle catcher located at the front side of the needle holder to be movable thereto and having a pair of second needle passages aligned with the first needle passages. A pair of needle pushers is slidably located in the first needle passages, and a needle handle is attached to the needle pushers. A pair of needles joined with a suture is disposed in the first needle passages at a side close to the needle catcher. When the needle handle is actuated, the needles in the first needle passages are pushed by the needle pushers and transferred to the second needle passages. Thus, when wall portions are held between the needle holder and the needle catcher, the wall portions are sutured by the needles with the suture.

  • Patent number: 6520051
Abstract: A head of a wrench comprises a hole having a center and a radius. The head further includes a compartment communicated with the hole. A wall defining the compartment has a center of curvature and a radius of curvature. A ratio between the radius of curvature of the wall and the radius of the hole is equal to or greater than 0.5, but less than 1. A distance between the center of the hole and the center of curvature of the wall is selected to form a deeper compartment to thereby improve the torque-bearing capacity.
