  • Patent number: 4467512
Abstract: An expander tool such as for use in removing tubing from barbed fittings. The tool includes a pair of handle members having a pivotal connection therebetween. A pair of channel-shaped jaw members are operatively connected to the handle members for spreading movement in a generally parallel direction when the handle members are moved toward each other. The channel-shaped jaw members are nested with the bight portions thereof being thin and flat and in generally parallel confronting relation. The legs of the channel-shaped jaw members therefore are in overlapped relation whereby the opposite side of the thin flat bight portion of one jaw member can be positioned in close proximity to a workpiece such as the flange or elbow of a barbed fitting. The thin flat bight portions of the jaw members have slots opening outwardly of the tool, the slots each having a stepped configuration for embracing different sizes of workpieces, such as different diameters of tubing and barbed fittings.

  • Patent number: 4458565
Abstract: A torque limiting power screwdriver includes a housing in which there is supported for rotation and axial displacement a screwdriver spindle. A transmission transmits power from a motor to the screwdriver spindle. A torque overload coupling and a separating coupling are interposed in the transmission, being operative for interrupting the transmission of torque from the motor to the screwdriver spindle. The separating coupling is coupled and uncoupled in response to axial displacement of the screwdriver spindle between its coupling and uncoupling positions. The axial movement of the spindle is accomplished by a trigger movably mounted on the housing and connected by a Bowden cable or a lever transmission to the spindle. The spindle is connected by an axially movable coupling with an output member, especially with a bevel gear transmission accommodated in an angular head housing portion. A switching trigger is used to energize and de-energize the motor.

  • Patent number: 4455898
Abstract: In combination with its own bit, or with a screwdriver, a barrel made of a stiffly flexible material, preferably a specified plastic, slides over the bit or screwdriver shaft, and provides at one end a gripping head for screw heads, and at the other a quick-lock clutch operated by a twist of a rotary collar. The gripping head can not only grip surely a screw head placed in it, as for starting, but can locate by feel an installed screw in a hidden recess difficult of access, and facilitate one-handed withdrawal of the screw, with sure retention of the head. The device can be made as a screwstarter, with a set of sizes and bits for all sizes and type of screws, or as barrels adaptable to the full range of available and existing screwdrivers. A split-barrel variant can be assembled with the use of threaded collars, one of which is the clutch collar and the other the gripping head, over the shaft of a screwdriver which has a widened blade, square shaft, or for some other reason requires a special adaptation.

  • Patent number: 4453433
Abstract: An improved gear wrench which is particularly adapted for tightening or loosening nuts or bolts in tight places. The gear wrench comprises an elongated first member which carries at one of its ends a housing which rotatably receives a gear wheel therein. A tubular member is secured along its length to the first member and rotatably receives an elongated shaft which includes one end portion which extends beyond the corresponding end portion of the tubular member and is disposed proximate the gear wheel carried by the housing. A pinion gear is secured to this end portion of the shaft and includes teeth which mesh with the teeth of the gear wheel such that upon rotation of the shaft, a corresponding rotation is imparted to the gear wheel and a stud carried thereon which is adapted for receiving a suitable conventional socket. The teeth on the gear wheel and the surface of the gear wheel serve to define a recess which receives the end portion of the socket which is assembled on the stud.
