  • Patent number: 4522090
Abstract: A tool to remove shock absorbers from an automobile comprising an elongated barrel or tubular portion have a hollow bore extending therethrough and a ribbed socket at one end to receive the retaining nut at the top of a shock absorber mounted on an automobile. The barrel or tubular portion has an abutment flange extending outwardly along the side wall to catch and bear against a portion of the A-frame part of the vehicle which is adjacent to the shock absorber. The abutment flange keeps the barrel or tubular portion of the tool from rotating and holds the retaining nut received in the socket of the tool from rotating. A socket wrench is inserted down through the bore of the barrel or tubular portion of the tool to receive the head of the bolt or rod which holds the shock absorber in place.

  • Patent number: 4520719
Abstract: The present invention relates to an impact nutcracker of the type having an anvil and an impact member aligned but spaced apart wherein the impact member and anvil are adapted to hold a nut therebetween. A striking device is provided to transmit an impact force to said impact member which transmits the force to the shell of the held nut, causing the same to be cracked and broken such that the kernel can be easily and conveniently removed. The present invention entails an improved impact nutcracker for cracking hard-shell nuts such as black walnuts and macadamia nuts. In order to achieve this, both the impact member and anvil is provided about inner face-to-face end portions with a nut receiving recess that is specifically shaped in a shallow and slightly rounded form to directly engage and surround a substantial portion of the hard-shell nut.

  • Patent number: 4520597
Abstract: A grinding unit especially adapted for use for grinding with a robot and in automatic machines. The unit is designed with a grinding wheel on an axially displaceable shaft, which is urged in a direction towards a surface to be ground by a spring. The grinding pressure is determined by this spring and the position of the grinding wheel is determined by the level of the grinding surface. The mass of the parts which are displaced under the influence of the grinding pressure can be made small. Only the grinding wheel, the shaft and a member, which is directly connected to said shaft, are displaced. Therefore, the grinding pressure is influenced only to an insignificant extent when changing the orientation of the grinding unit.

  • Patent number: 4519122
Abstract: A puller mechanism for moving the end of a pipe into a collar mounted on a second aligned pipe in order to assemble a pipeline. The mechanism is constructed to be used in conjunction with heavy pipes, such as, for example, Johns-Manville Transite asbestos/cement pressure pipes. The mechanism includes a first semi-circular yoke assembly which is clamped to the pipe, and a second yoke assembly whose legs straddle the collar. The second yoke assembly is pivotally coupled to the first yoke assembly by a pair of arms on opposite sides of the first pipe. An elongated operating handle extends outwardly from the bight section of the second yoke, and the handle is used to turn the second yoke about a fulcrum. Two L-shaped members supported at the ends of the leg sections of the second yoke engage the rim of the collar to constitute the required fulcrum, so that when the handle is turned the end of the first pipe is pulled into the collar.

  • Patent number: 4517865
Abstract: This invention relates a screwdriver capable of exerting a preset twisting force and characterized by comprising a tubular handle, a twisting rod, an adjusting thimble and a spiral spring. The said twisting rod has circular toothing on its projecting part to be engaged with the corresponding toothing on the block serving as a plug in the handle opening. The said spring fitted over the twisting rod between the projecting part of the rod and the projecting part of the adjusting thimble makes the said toothings engaged tightly. The degrees of engagement is used as measurements of twisting force. When the resistance of turning exceeds the preset twisting force the handle will slide on the said toothings and turn idly. This and the sound produced at this moment will remind the operator that the required torque has reached.

  • Patent number: 4517723
Abstract: A piece of foam plastic is introduced into a pocket of a life jacket fitted to it and made of flexible material, through an opening formed at the edge of the pocket. The circumference of the opening is shorter than the circumference of the piece of foam plastic. The piece of foam plastic is compressed between two arms in a U-shaped manner and then further compressed until the legs close. The pocket with the extended opening at its front is pushed over the bent piece of foam plastic. The arms, insofar as the opening permits, are spread apart. The pocket together with the piece of foam plastic located therein are pulled off of the two arms. The opening is then sewn up.

  • Patent number: 4515045
Abstract: An automatic wrench comprises a high-torque, a low-torque, and a locking device. The wrench control system includes a torque detector and a rotation angle detector, in response to whose signals passing through an AND gate a control unit delivers a command to end the thread tighening by the rotation actuator of the high-torque device in screwing a pipe string together or to end the initial loosening of the thread with the aid of the same actuator in screwing it apart. The control unit incorporates a unit for monitoring the duration of the command execution, which stops operation of the high-torque device if no signal comes from said AND gate during the time alloted to accomplish the tightening or the initial loosening of the thread.

  • Patent number: 4513642
Abstract: A variable adjustable wrench adapted to tighten or loosen nuts and bolts in somewhat inaccessible locations, has a head which is rotatable with respect to the handle such that the angular relationship between the head and handle is variable. A retaining means holds the head in a fixed angular relationship to the handle during the application of a force to a nut or bolt and permits the angular relationship to change while a force is not applied such that a virtually inaccessible nut or bolt can be tightened or loosened by wiggling the handle of the wrench. Means are provided to return the head to the original position after the head has reached its limit of angular travel.

The jaws and carriage are provided with permanent contours that prevent the jaws from being withdrawn from the carriage when the jaws are open, but which do not prevent such withdrawal when the jaws are closed. The carriage and jaws are rotationally interlocked, and the carriage is capable of axial movement within a body element only when the jaws are closed, and axial movement of the carriage within the body results in the engagement and disengagement of a rotational drive from the carriage. Automatic operation of the tool can be enhanced through the use of a depth gauge.
