  • Patent number: 4535585
Abstract: A cap removal device is provided for a cellular sample treatment apparatus. The device avoids the necessity to manually remove a cap and allows an automated sequence of steps to be carried out. The device is utilized in an apparatus for treating samples of cellular materials wherein the samples are contained in a stack of sample holders and fit in a stack holding tube, open at the top with a removable cap. A transfer tube having a bottom opening to fit on the top of the stack holding tube is provided and has a drive system to move the stack from the stack holding tube to the transfer tube. The improvement includes a fork attached to the drive system for the stack removal, and a button or grooved member on the cap for engagement by the fork so that when the drive system moves upwards it lifts the cap with it.

  • Patent number: 4532835
Abstract: A wrench for installing or removing filter cartridges in locations of limited access, consists of a pair of joined sheet metal stampings having cartridge engaging flanges thereon, arranged to be drawn together by a cam and slot mechanism, operated by an axially applied tool. The stampings are slidably pinned together for limited relative movement. One of the stampings supports the cam for revolution while the other stamping includes a transverse slot in which the cam is disposed to effect the relative movement. The cam and slot are arranged so that inward clamping movement and thus gripping of the cartridge occurs upon revolution of the cam in either direction.

  • Patent number: 4532832
Abstract: A dual-mode ratchet wrench usable in either a reciprocating or a nonreciprocating mode is disclosed. The ratchet wrench includes a wrench body having a head portion and a handle portion, a rotatable drive unit, a ratchet mechanism, and a sleeve assembly that is axially translatable along the handle portion. In the reicprocating mode, the sleeve assembly is moved to a disengaged position wherein the wrench is operated by swinging the handle back and forth through an arcuate path. Due to the action of the ratchet mechanism, the drive unit is forced to rotate when the handle portion is swung in one direction, but not the other. In the nonreciprocating mode, the sleeve assembly is moved to an engaged position, wherein the inner end of the sleeve assembly engages the drive unit through a bevel gear system. The wrench is operated by rotating the sleeve assembly about an axial centerline through the handle of the wrench.

  • Patent number: 4530142
Abstract: A hand tool for disconnecting a tubular member from an associated connector fitting by imparting relative separation forces thereon in a direction generally axially of the tubing. The tool includes a frame adapted to engage the fitting to exert a separating force thereon, a bell crank pivotally connected to the frame and having a plunger movably mounted thereon and operable for engaging and releasing the tubing in the vicinity of said fitting. The tool also has a lever pivotally connected to the frame and movable relative to the bell crank for sequentially imparting tube gripping engagement of the tubing by the plunger and bell crank and then pivoting motion to the bell crank to thereby draw the tubing away from the fitting and thus disconnect the same. The plunger has a squeeze block mounted on one end thereof and movable relative to a juxtaposed tube-engaging portion of said bell crank.

  • Patent number: 4528737
Abstract: A power-driven insertion tool for a helically coiled wire insert of the type used for tapped holes in parent material that is generally softer than a fastener being screwed into the tapped hole, whereby a mandrel having a threaded lead portion and a pivotal pawl inserted in a groove below the threaded portion so that the pawl engages a recess of the insert, in order that the insert may be screwed into the tapped hole. A sleeve, concentric to the threaded mandrel, maintains the insert's helix angle for a smooth transition into the tapped hole. An adjusting nut adjusts the depth to which an insert may be installed and whereby a free spinning bearing contacts the parent material and automatically reverses the torque of the tool.

  • Patent number: 4528874
Abstract: An improved arrangement for driving threaded screw fasteners both manually and automatically utilizes mating conformations in the fastener head and driver including a central, preferably conical, depression in the head and a complementally shaped central projection extending from the driving tool. Further, the head is formed with slots, less deep than the depression, which open both at the depression and at the outer margins of the head. The driver is formed with corresponding blade sections. The central projection and depression are formed such that force along axis of the driver toward the head and rotational force about the driver axis tend to force the fastener axis to alignment with the driver axis.

  • Patent number: 4526067
Abstract: An automatic mounting appliance for assembling clamp pins, screws, nuts and the like is adapted to be installed on a machine driven into rotation by a motor. The appliance comprises coaxial elements i.e. a holding member for receiving a portion of the pins, screws, or nuts terminated at one end by a socket, a gripping member having angular shift with respect to the holding member and terminated at one end by a socket axially adjacent to the first mentioned socket, both sockets being in coincidence only in one of two end positions, a rotary member driven by the motor, a stationary member, and a driving member radially interposed between the rotary and gripping members to frictionally drive the gripping member from the rotary member, whereby the angular shift permits locking or unlocking of the pins, screws, or nuts depending on the direction of rotation.

  • Patent number: 4525912
Abstract: A pierce nut has a plurality of projections which are integrally formed with a cylindrical body of the pierce nut. When the pierce nut is pressed against a metal sheet laid on a back-up die, an opening is formed in the metal sheet only by shearing force between the pierce nut and the back-up die, with no other force being used to press-break the metal sheet, and the projections are deformed by an annular bank portion of the back-up die at different portions thereof each time the back-up die is used. Thus, the use of the present pierce nut in combination with the present back-up die remarkably extends the life of the back-up die.

  • Patent number: 4524650
Abstract: A two-part tool assembly comprising a squeeze wrench section and a ratchet wrench section adapted to be fitted into one another. The squeeze wrench section serves to convert squeezing motion into rotary motion on a variable torque basis, and the ratchet wrench section transmits the rotary motion to the screw or bolt which is being tightened or loosened. In one embodiment, a curved lever is included in the squeeze wrench section in conjunction with a handle to provide a traveling fulcrum, so that when the handle is squeezed maximum torque is generated at the beginning of the stroke and maximum speed is realized at the end of the stroke. In a second embodiment, the variable torque is provided by changing the angle of spiral cuts along a drive shaft in the squeeze wrench section, so that the spiral cuts become more axial towards the front end of the section, and by directly coupling a slider on the shaft to the squeeze handle.

Abstract: A bush mounting equipment with an automatic lubricating oil applying mechanism has a guide holder having a tapered hole, the reduced-diameter portion of which has a diameter equal to the diameter of a bush mounting hole of a work. A lubricating oil feed gap is formed in the circumference of a smaller-diameter end of the tapered hole, and a lubricating oil fed from the lubricating oil feed gap is applied automatically to the outer surface of a bush when the bush passes through the tapered hole while being compressed. The bush then passes through a work holder and is fitted in the bush mounting hole of the work.
