  • Patent number: 4569263
Abstract: A method and apparatus for fine shearing a metal workpiece involves placing the workpiece on a stationary die surface for support and driving a single punch against the workpiece such that at least a portion of the workpiece is placed in compression. The punch is then driven into and through the workpiece along a predetermined path which has a first directional component both perpendicular to and directed toward the die surface and a second directional component both parallel to the die surface and directed into the compressed portion of the workpiece. The punch is driven with a force having components both perpendicular to and parallel to the path of the punch. The force component perpendicular to the punch path is large enough to keep the compressed portion of the workpiece in a plastic state. The force component parallel to the path of the punch is large enough to overcome the shear strength of the workpiece along the path.

  • Patent number: 4567800
Abstract: A punching and shearing machine in which a single hydraulic cylinder (1) operates alternatively the punch or the shear of the machine. When the punch is operative, a manually operated eccentric lever (16) blocks the shear carrying member (8) so that the stem (6) of the piston in the hydraulic cylinder (1) causes motion of the punch carrying member (3). If, on the other hand, the shear is to be operated, another manually operated eccentric lever (14) blocks the punch carrying member (3), so that the external part of the hydraulic cylinder, which is connected to the shear carrying member (8), causes the motion of the shear carrying member only. Safety micro-switches are provided to interrupt the hydraulic circuit controlling the cylinder (1), if the eccentrics (14, 16) are both free or both are blocking a tool carrying member.

  • Patent number: 4567795
Abstract: A tube slotting apparatus (10) includes a base (12) upon which a polyvinyl chloride tube (86) is disposed. The tube (86) is mounted over a convex surface (71) to allow bowing thereof. A tensioning apparatus (52) presses the tube (86) against the convex surface such that the upper surface thereof is tensioned and the lower surface thereof is in compression. A plurality of saw blades (70) are mounted on a pivoting bracket (72) to provide cutting of the slots in the tube (86). Rotation of the saw blades (70) on to the tensioned surface of the polyvinyl chloride tube (86) results in the formation of slots. The saw blades (70) are rotated in the opposite direction to the cutting teeth and the portion of the polyvinyl chloride tube (86) disposed between the two saw blades during formation of the slots pulls away from the surface of the saw blades such that binding is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4566679
Abstract: An apparatus and method of clamping tube-like members on a clamping support, for cutting off portions of the tube-like members are provided. Clamping forces are applied to the tubes alternately in horizontal and vertical directions in such a way that the clamping forces generated are higher than clamping forces which are applied only in a horizontal direction, without however causing permanent deformation of the tube-like members. The apparatus comprises a horizontal clamping mechanism and a vertically displaceable clamping member. A measuring device is associated with the horizontal clamping mechanism and the vertically displaceable clamping member, for measuring the geometrical deformation of the tube-like members which occurs during a clamping operation. The measuring device produces a signal to stop the clamping operation before the degree of deformation of the tube-like members reaches an inadmissible value.
