  • Patent number: 10409385
Abstract: This document describes techniques and devices for occluded gesture recognition. Through use of the techniques and devices described herein, users may control their devices even when a user's gesture is occluded by some material between the user's hands and the device itself. Thus, the techniques enable users to control their mobile devices in many situations in which control is desired but conventional techniques do permit effective control, such as when a user's mobile computing device is occluded by being in a purse, bag, pocket, or even in another room.

  • Patent number: 10338193
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for RSS/AoA target 3-D localization in wireless networks and wireless sensor networks (WSNs), utilizing combined measurements of received signal strength (RSS) and angle of arrival (AoA) are disclosed herein. By using the spherical coordinate conversion and available AoA observations to establish new relationships between the measurements and the unknown target location, a simple closed-form solution is developed. The method disclosed herein has a straightforward adaptation to the case where the target's transmit power is also not known. A representative set of simulations and experiments verify the potential performance improvement realized with embodiments of the method for RSS/AoA target 3-D localization in wireless networks.

  • Patent number: 10341352
Abstract: A gaze initiated interaction technique for facilitating interaction between wearers of head-mountable devices. Methods are shown which allow users to interact with each other following an event of interlocking gaze. Methods are also shown which allows the operator of a personal point-of-interest beacon to control and limit interaction from the public thus ensuring a greater degree of privacy. Methods are also introduced which allow a mode of interaction to be determined by a remote service after mutual authorization of each interacting user. This disclosure also introduces a system of a head-mountable device which comprises a directional beacon transceiver system using beams in the infrared light spectrum enabling the detection of a gaze interlock event.

  • Patent number: 10311609
Abstract: Embodiments for a method and system for the making, storage and display of virtual image edits are disclosed. Source/linked image(s) (201a) in a web or other computer device (100a) environment may be virtually edited and/or combined with one another (102), by individual users, in collaboration with others or an automated program. Only the virtual edit alteration code, including the source image location information, are displayed (108) and saved (410), eliminating image redundancy, as the source images are not truly edited, copied or resaved, but instead remain stored at the copyright holder's disclosed location. Just as the House Of Mirrors in an amusement park changes ones reflection without changing the person, separating the image(s) from the virtual edits improves image load speeds and saves storage space. The said display is dynamically affected should the image copyright holder change or delete one of the source images.

  • Patent number: 10303496
Abstract: The invention discloses a system for accessing and viewing Internet content on a portable device by means of a proxy server. The server requests web content, renders it and sends compressed image parts to the device. In order for the device to be cost-competitive, its processing operations are generally limited to decompressing image parts and displaying them. The server sends information to the device that allows it to locally create, display and manage text boxes, in which the user can type immediately. As a user types into a local text box, text input data is communicated to the server and processed therein before further requests for web content. By simultaneously managing multiple text boxes locally, the present invention reduces instances of data transfer from the server to the device, which decreases the likelihood of lag and improves the performance of the device.

  • Patent number: 10305380
Abstract: Serial arranged circuits allow multiple different circuit nodes to receive power with a single conductor line carrying current. Data can be transmitted to the serially arranged circuit nodes by modulating the current on the single conductor line. However, switching transistors to modulate current can consume energy. To reduce the switching losses, a double ended driver circuit is disclosed. The doubled ended driver circuit includes switching capacitors and inductors at both ends of a serial string of circuit nodes.

  • Patent number: 10296136
Abstract: A touch-sensitive depressible button with multiple depression thresholds is provided. When the button is depressed to a first depression threshold, the touch sensor can be switched from a low-power, non-sensing state to a sensing state. When the button is depressed to a second depression threshold, the touch sensor can sense the touch context and input can be generated based on the depression and the touch context. In this way, the touch-sensitive depressible button with multiple depression thresholds can facilitate timely switching of the touch sensor to a sensing state.

  • Patent number: 10289377
Abstract: The prior auscultation technology is only applicable to the sound signals within the audio range and conducted by vibration. Disclosed in the present invention are a method and an apparatus for auscultating inaudible signals, and thus inaudible signals can be mapped into the audible range to form audible signals. The method comprises: obtaining signal data which comprise audible or inaudible signal data; extracting a signal waveform from the signal data; determining a play rate which allows the signal waveform to phonate by means of an audio play apparatus; and performing the auscultation with the signal waveform being played through the audio play apparatus at the play rate, or combining the play rate and the signal waveform to thereby constitute an audio signal, and then playing the audio signal through the audio player so as to achieve auscultation.

  • Patent number: 10284874
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for encoding and decoding video using derived block vectors as predictors in intra block copy mode. In an exemplary encoding method, an encoder identifies at least a first candidate block vector for the prediction of an input video block, where the first candidate block vector points to a first candidate block. The encoder then identifies a first predictive vector (e.g. a block vector or a motion vector) that was used to encode the first candidate block. From the first candidate block vector and the first predictive vector, the encoder generates a derived predictive vector from the first candidate block vector and the first predictive vector. The encoder then encodes the video block in the bit stream using the derived predictive vector for the prediction of the input video block.

  • Patent number: 10234944
Abstract: A force feedback system provides components for use in a force feedback system including a host computer and a force feedback interface device. An architecture for a host computer allows multi-tasking application programs to interface with the force feedback device without conflicts. One embodiment of a force feedback device provides both relative position reporting and absolute position reporting to allow great flexibility. A different device embodiment provides relative position reporting device allowing maximum compatibility with existing software. Information such as ballistic parameters and screen size sent from the host to the force feedback device allow accurate mouse positions and graphical object positions to be determined in the force feedback environment. Force feedback effects and structures are further described, such as events and enclosures.

  • Patent number: 10216399
Abstract: Methods for piecewise-linear and piecewise-affine transformations parameter decoupling in High Dimensional Touchpad (HDTP) user touch interfaces including those with multitouch capabilities are described. A calculation chain provides a first-order calculation of a subset of a collection of touch parameters (including for example left-right, front-back, downward pressure, roll angle, pitch angle, yaw angle) responsive in real-time to user touch on a touch-responsive sensor array. A piecewise-affine transformation is applied to these first-order calculations to produce parameter decoupling. The piecewise-affine transformation can be structured to depend only on current numerical values from the first-order calculation. Alternatively, the piecewise-affine transformation can be structured to additionally depend on the positive or negative direction of change over time of at least one numerical value from the first-order calculation, thereby providing a correction for hysteresis effects.
