  • Patent number: 9446217
Abstract: A catheter that can efficiently transmit a pressing force applied to the distal end of the catheter without breaking at a midpoint of the catheter. The catheter includes a metal tube having a first wall and a second wall disposed in an outer tube, and a reinforcing member that is joined at its proximal end to an outer peripheral surface of the first wall. A distal end of the first wall extends distally beyond a distal end of the second wall and is bent toward the second wall. Thus, the second wall is not provided at a connected portion between the first wall and the proximal end of the reinforcing member, and the reinforcing member having a diameter increased at least by an amount corresponding to a thickness of the second wall can be disposed in the catheter without increasing the diameter of the outer tube.

  • Patent number: 9440059
Abstract: A hemostatic valve device for use in inserting an interventional device into a body lumen of a patient. The valve device includes a housing that defines a cavity between first and second end openings. A valve structure is disposed within the cavity, and defines a variable diameter channel for receiving the interventional device. An annular chamber is generally formed between the valve structure and the housing inner surface, and can be filled with fluid. The housing is movable between first and second positions so that the volume of the cavity and the diameter of the channel vary to a degree for the valve structure to form a seal along the interventional device inserted within the channel. The valve structure may be configured to seal without substantial twisting.

  • Patent number: 9433553
Abstract: In order to inhibit thrombotic processes locally rather than systemically, higher levels of antithrombotic drugs in the deep veins of the legs than in the systemic circulation are obtained using devices and methods that provide venous cannulation in the dorsum of the foot of a patient while applying pressure to the foot proximal to the venous cannulation, potentially as far up the leg as the knee, in an amount sufficient to compress the superficial veins and divert the venous drainage in the deep venous system into the venous plexus.

  • Patent number: 9427541
Abstract: A switchable adapter for a suction tube has a manifold, a switching base rotatably connected to a pivot portion of the manifold, an air-tight component mounted between the pivot portion of the manifold and the switching base, and a cover mounted on an end of the pivot portion. The switching base has two connecting tubes. When the switching base pivots relative to the pivot portion of the manifold, the connecting tubes alternatively communicate with the manifold by rotation of the switching base. Thus, the switchable adapter is switched to allow the suction tube to suck sputa out of a trachea of a patient.

In certain aspects, the device includes a portable power source, a heating portion, an inhalation sensor, a temperature sensor, a distal light source, and a grinding portion. In response to an inhalation by a user, the power source energizes a heating element of the heating portion so as to heat air flow to a desired vaporization temperature within a few seconds of detecting inhalation, using convection and radiative heating. The device may include a receptacle for receiving a cartridge containing a pre-prepared substance, such as a liquid, gel, powder, or solid brick, and a grinding portion to allow a user to grind intact portions of cellulose-based material into smaller pieces to facilitate vaporization by manually rotating portions of the device relative to each other.

  • Patent number: 9415198
Abstract: A method and apparatus for application of a microneedle patch to a skin surface of a patient includes use of an applicator. The applicator includes a housing, a slidably disposed applicator plate, and a compression spring. The applicator plate is moveable between a retracted position and a deployed position, and has an engaging surface suitable for mashing up against a microneedle patch and pressing it against a skin surface. A docking system transfers the microneedle patch from a support to the applicator without requiring a user to handle the microneedle patch directly. Once mounted in the applicator, the microneedle patch is deployed against a skin surface of a patient for delivery of a desired agent via a microneedle array contained on the patch.

  • Patent number: 9387121
Abstract: An ophthalmic irrigator-aspirator has a handpiece with aspiration and irrigation openings through its distal end. A tip component connects to the handpiece and has an aspiration cannula. A flexible sleeve has an annular hub for watertight connection to the handpiece or a base portion of the tip. The sleeve has an intermediate portion that forms a channel for an irrigation fluid along the exterior of the cannula to an irrigation port in the sleeve. The distal end portion of the sleeve is sized for a watertight connection over the distal portion of the cannula. Such distal end portion of the sleeve has an aspiration port in communication with the cannula aspiration port. The sleeve proximate, intermediate, and distal portions are integral with each other and are formed of a resilient material that allows the sleeve to be tightly fitted on the handpiece or tip base portion and the cannula.
