Abstract: Methods for and operating a service and systems are provided. One method includes executing one or more video games on one or more servers of a service. The one or more video games are played or used by one or more users on one or more client devices remote to the service via compressed streaming interactive video. The compressed streaming interactive video is sent to the one or more client devices where decompression of the compressed streaming interactive video is preformed to display video of each of said one or more video games and said one or more servers are configured to receive user control input to driver interactivity with said one or more video games. The method includes broadcasting the one or more video games as one or more streams of compressed streaming interactive video to enable one or more viewing client devices to view said one or more video games over the Internet. Each of the one or more viewing client devices receives one or more of the streams of compressed streaming interactive video.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure disclose a method and apparatus for recommending a video. A specific implementation of the method includes: finding a recommended video corresponding to a target video from all candidate videos based on similarities of content characteristics of the videos, the target video being a video to be played on a terminal of a user; and sending play information of the recommended video corresponding to the target video to the terminal of the user. The method finds a video similar on video content to the target video that the user desires to view based on the content characteristic of the video, and recommends the video similar on video content to the target video that the user desires to view to the user.

Abstract: Embodiments are directed toward providing a customized over-the-air channel mapping to each content receiver in a geographical area based on crowdsourced mappings of available channels from at least a subset of the content receivers in that geographical area. When a new content receiver is installed in the geographical area, the customized over-the-air channel mapping is provided to the new content receiver and used by the new content receiver as its internal list of available over-the-air channels without performing a scan of its own. At least a portion of the content receivers in the geographical area perform a round-robin-type scan to identify new or missing channels in the geographical area. The customized over-the-air channel mapping is then updated when a new channel or missing channel threshold is reached. And the updated customized over-the-air channel mapping is provided to each content receiver in the geographical area.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and machine-readable media for containerizing and adapting content items for delivery in a packet stream from a content provider system via one or more networks to an endpoint media device are disclosed. A content composite may be created for delivery in a packet stream from a content provider system to an endpoint media device. A containerization object may be configured with a container flag that indicates a content item and containerization specifications to facilitate performance of operations by the endpoint media device with respect to the content item. The content composite may be transmitted in accordance with composite transmission specifications. The endpoint media device may perform the operations facilitated by the containerization object of the content composite.

Abstract: An embodiment of the invention simplifies management of the “video lifecycle”. An embodiment includes one of more modules that streamline the video publishing process by abstracting technical steps such as video publishing, updating video, unpublishing video, retrieval or statistics concerning video, authorization to process video, validation of video, video metadata processing, video transcoding, and/or video transmission. Other embodiments are described herein.

Abstract: Introduced here are computer programs and associated computer-implemented techniques for broadcasting social media sessions via an entertainment platform, such as a broadcast television network. More specifically, the technologies described herein relate to broadcasting interaction sessions involving a host (also referred to as a “communicator”) and one or more participants. An entertainment platform may contact the host or another person associated with the host, such as an agent, manager, family member, or friend, to seek permission to broadcast the session to its audience. An example of an entertainment platform is a broadcast television network. The host then closes a deal with the entertainment platform, whereby the entertainment platform has the rights to simulcast the session to its television viewers in real time, replay the session to its television viewers at later times, or both.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method and device for loading an electronic program guide (EPG), and a storage medium. The device determines a first area where a focus is located on a display interface of an EPG, where the first area is one of multiple functional display areas of the EPG. The device determines whether a focus cross-area jump condition is satisfied in response to detecting a moving instruction for moving the focus on the display interface of the EPG. The device limits the focus to move within the first area in response to determining that the focus cross-area jump condition is not satisfied.

Abstract: A method includes receiving, at a network server, a data package from a user mobile device, the data package comprising real-time survey user input associated with watching a video program and survey audio from the video program, the survey audio being recorded via a microphone of the user mobile device during the real-time survey, receiving an audio file associated with the video program, comparing the audio file with the survey audio to yield a comparison, aligning, based on the comparison, the survey audio with the audio file to yield an modified data package and providing the modified data package.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for alerting users to media events of interest using social media analysis are provided herein. A computer-implemented method includes collecting user media preferences indicating events of interest to a given user; buffering at least a portion of media content associated with the collected user media preferences of the given user; monitoring social media for one or more events of interest to the given user based on the collected user media preferences of the given user; identifying at least one event that satisfies one or more predefined interest criteria for the given user based on the monitored social media contributions of other parties and the collected user media preferences of the given user; and notifying the given user of the at least one event of interest.

Abstract: A method for providing a broadcast service is provided. The method includes transmitting a user datagram protocol (UDP)/internet protocol (IP) packet including a first message, the first message containing information about a message to be signed and transmitted, and transmitting a moving picture experts group (MPEG) media transport protocol (MMTP) packet including a second message, the second message containing information about the broadcast service and information indicating whether the information about the broadcast service is signed. The first message includes an identifier of a key used to verify a signature of the message to be transmitted and signed and an identifier of a hash algorithm used to calculate a hash value of the message to be transmitted and signed.

Abstract: During output of a primary media stream from a cable, satellite, television, radio or internet source, a condition, signal or indication of a commercial break is detected causing a context switch to occur and enabling other services, programming or devices to intervene during the commercial break and causing an alternative output to be produced by a process or device. When the commercial break is over, the system may optionally rejoin with the primary media stream.

Abstract: Described are techniques for video conversion for accessibility including a technique comprising determining, using data from at least one camera, that a user is distracted based on a direction of gaze of the user with respect to a display device presenting video content. The technique further comprises converting, by a machine learning model, the video content to audio content in response to determining the user is distracted, wherein the audio content comprises a description of the video content. The technique further comprises outputting, using at least one speaker, the audio content to the user while the user is distracted.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, receiving, over a communication network, a plurality of requests for frames of video content to provide to a mobile device. Further embodiments can include determining a first portion of the plurality of requests are for pre-fetch frames of the video content, and providing, over the communication network, the pre-fetch frames to the mobile device over a default bearer path. Additional embodiments can include determining a second portion of the plurality of requests are for emergent frames of the video content, and providing, over the communication network, the emergent frames to the mobile device over a dedicated bearer path. Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, obtaining a first group of video content streams of an event, determining a first point of view of a plurality of audience members of the event, and selecting a first portion of the first group of video content streams of the event according to the first point of view of the plurality of audience members. Further aspects can include aggregating the first portion of the first group of video content streams resulting in first aggregated video content, generating first augmented reality content from the first aggregated video content according to the first point of view, and providing the first augmented reality content to a communication device. Abstract: Techniques for transforming a fragment media player into an access unit media player are described. As one example, a computer-implemented method includes receiving a play request for access units of media from a front end media player by a rendering engine, receiving the access units of media from the front end media player by a sample stream component of a fragment media player; storing the access units of media in a sample queue of the sample stream component, storing respective metadata for the access units in a metadata queue of the sample stream component, sending pulling the access units and the respective metadata by a renderer of the fragment media player based on the play request, and rendering the access units and the respective metadata with the renderer of the fragment media player to generate rendered media.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for generating for display depictions of tournament-style competitions restricting user's access to any content that may spoil the results of the tournament. A user may request to view a display that contains a tournament and participating competitors. Requests may be received from users to view recordings of tournament competitions or a results display with the tournament bracket displayed. The media guidance application may access recorded versions of competitions from internal and external directories. Furthermore, the media guidance application may compare user viewing progress data and competitor progress data to ensure the user does not prematurely view results of any competitions of interest to the user. If the media guidance application determines a user's progress is less than the progress of the user's favorite team, visual representations of the competitions that may spoil the outcome of the user's favorite team's competition may be blacked out.

Abstract: Described herein are techniques and mechanisms for providing a lean private copy of media content. According to various embodiments, a private copy of a media content item may be made specific to a user account. For example, to use a private copy of a media content item to present that media content item, a client machine may need to first perform operations such as account authentication, content licensing, and device-based DRM. The private copy of the media content item may be significantly deduplicated such that the actual size on disk of the private copy is small relative to the size of the uncompressed media content item. The private copy of the media content item may include reference information which maps the user account associated with the copy to data files associated with the recording.

Abstract: A system and method includes an automatic content recognition (ACR) headend to perform ACR recognition on a video stream that is also being streamed to a smart TV, to detect timing of an upcoming ad spot to be delivered within the video stream. An addressable TV (ATV) engine can be in communication with the ACR head end and to: determine, from data of an ad campaign, whether a first ad to be delivered to the ad spot is off target for the ad spot; notify the ad replacer client to replace the first ad with an addressable ad when the first ad is off target for the ad spot; and provide, to the ad replacer client, criteria with which to constrain an ad request to obtain a second ad that is on target for the ad spot.
